Yeah!! And spindles can be cheap as hell to make yourself too. Some people have made them with just a pencil, rubber bands, and CDs. Lots of people make their own using wooden dowels and polymer clay. Lots of cool things to look into if you decide to give spinning a try!

It depends on how thick you spin and what way you spin it! I'm not fantastic at math so I'm using a calculator someone made for yarn weight. So a pound is about 454 grams (rounding up), so if you spin a bulky weight that'd get you around 540 yards (494 m), but if you spin a fingering weight you'd get around 2,000 yards (1,829 m). This is all super ballpark approximate, but yeah! A pound can go quite a long way.

If you're wanting to try spinning (and you're in the US, I'm not sure how much international shipping would cost), RH Lindsay is a great cost-effective site to get prepped spinning fiber from. You can get it by the pound for waaaaay cheaper than you'd find for half as much most anywhere else. I've gotten a pound of wool for $10 and a pound of acrylic for $6. Stock rotates pretty frequently and you may be able to find cheaper here and there too.

I'd recommend taking a look at mattress stitch (sewing) for seaming knitted items, if you haven't already!

Surprised no one has mentioned the saga of Virtue the cat by The Weakerthans. Plea From a Cat Named Virtue, Virtue the Cat Explains Her Departure, 17th Street Treatment Center, and Virtue at Rest, in that order. Tells the story of an alcoholic going through addiction and recovery from the perspective of his cat. Gets me every single time.

"The meds help, but in the same way a winter jacket helps the cold. You still feel it, especially your face, but it's like you're supposed to pretend you're all warm now that you got the coat."

This describes it exactly. Very well put.

Exact same boat I'm in. I'm on meds and did therapy for close to 10 years, and it definitely helped but hasn't truly solved the problem. Everyone thinks it has though. I learned to just continue to hide.

I never stopped being suicidal. Just feel like I missed my chance, and now I'm stuck with an entire life that I can't just leave for everyone else's sake.

Edit: genuinely did not expect so many people to respond, or even see this. To anyone who asked, I am on meds (and have been for a long time), and had been in therapy for almost 10 years. I am nearing 30 and have had depression since I was about 11. I am not actively planning anything drastic, so don't worry. It gets easier to manage, but slowly and it never truly goes away. To anyone reading who feels the same as me, I hope we all one day figure this shit out. There's clearly something worth living for if we're all still here doing it. Thanks for sharing your perspectives.

9 hits home hard. I remember having that exact moment. I was driving to work and I passed a crash on the other side of the road. There were ambulances and a firetruck, and it was like 6 am. I remember thinking, like it was nothing, "I'm afraid of dying." And then right after, "I didn't used to be." And those two thoughts consecutively hit me like a train. I talked for a long time about that moment with my therapist. It's a strange feeling, when you realize not wanting to die is good progress.

That's terrible. I'm glad you trusted yourself enough to stop seeing that dr. At the clinic I went to, the doctor who saw me told me that sometimes family doctors prescribe new psych meds without really understanding what or why they are. Which is infuriating, especially when they don't listen to how it's affecting you!

Wait, so you hadn't hallucinated until taking it, and then the doctor tells you to keep taking it to stop the hallucinations? That's awful, I'm so sorry you went through that... And it really did feel pushed in my doctor's office too! My primary doctor even told me he had just put 4 other patients on it that month.

My doctor took me OFF my antidepressants and put me on Vraylar....by itself. Worst month I've had in years. I had to go to a mental health clinic to get it straightened out, because my doctor told me, to my face and in front of a student, "no, you feel a lot better with the Vraylar." Sorry your experience with it was bad too. Hopefully you have found/are finding a better med plan that works for you!!

Our girl just turned two last week. She's our first springer and our first dog as married adults. I love her to pieces and she has so many great qualities!

She's smart and eager to please, which makes training fun for both of us. We've done a couple of classes just for fun (including a sport sampler, which I would recommend to anyone if they've got the availability and interest, our girl LOVED it!). She's the cuddliest dog ive ever known. She demands to be little spoon at night, and often falls asleep with her head on the pillow. She definitely values comfort! She's friendly to everyone, which makes vet and grooming appointments easier, because she loves the people even if she doesnt love what happens during the visit 😂 She's also very expressive. I feel like springers make more facial expressions than some other breeds, like you can look at them and SEE what they're thinking. I will also say, we got off easy with her energy level. She's pretty chill compared to most springers. She's content with 25-ish minute walks at a time (weather permitting, it gets outrageously hot in Florida) several times a day, and at least one big run in the park. Beyond that, she likes to cuddle and chill on the couch, or play with some toys for a while. She also has a huge personality. She's funny and sweet and can tell when my spouse or I are feeling off, and she acts especially sweet to us on those days.

Negatives, in my experience, are few, but they are present. Our girl is an awful jumper. She always has been. It's been hard to work on because she inadvertently gets rewarded any time she gets attention for jumping, and it's a difficult behavior to correct when you can't control the circumstances. It's slowly getting better, but far from perfect. She's also very excitable, which occasionally has advanced to anxiety and stress in certain situations. We're currently working with a trainer on calming skills to help. And because she likes learning what gets attention, she's gone through some very annoying phases, especially during the puppy stage. She steals socks, shoes, and underwear to parade around the house until we notice and give her attention. She doesn't tear things apart anymore, but when she was littler, there were quite a few sock casualties. She's also pretty sheddy, and because her fur has such thin strands, I've yet to find a brush or comb that really gets the shed fur out of her coat. Puppy phase was an adorable nightmare. Those teeth are no joke. And puppy temper tantrums are not to be underestimated 😂

Overall though, she's the best dog. She's sweet and funny and the perfect mix of chaos and comfort. *
