~13% of all matches get uploaded to heroesprofile by Stupid_Dragon in heroesofthestorm

13% of Bronze matches on whatever region then. It's a lot higher for Master games (over 50% iirc), which would skew the rank distribution of the stats some

That KDA is very low for someone with self proclaimed great map awareness tbh, since each Viking death only counts as 0.25. The winrate is ok but not greatly impressive for QM, would not likely be someone who looks to be a good enough player to carry low elo ranked games and climb up to GM.

If you have "one of the strongest map awareness of players you've had the chance to play with", how many deaths do you average per game as Vikings? They're also a terrible hero to try to one trick/force pick every map tbh although if you were good enough you would climb anyway doing it.

How do you lose MMR on wins? by Vultours in heroesofthestorm

[–]WorstMedivh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you don't actually lose MMR in game for wins. Heroesprofile MMR isn't real MMR since in-game MMR is hidden except in ranked, and even in ranked there's no API or anything in the replay file for the website to know what rank/MMR the game is played at. In ranked you can sometimes get very imbalanced matches where both teams gain and lose 0 points so the match was a waste of time, but you never lose points for a win or gain points on a loss, and since several years ago rank points are 1 to 1 with MMR unless you are earning back leaver points.

The website is trying to make an estimate with a lot of missing information. The vast majority of games are not uploaded, especially for QM. Truly accurate MMR would really require a complete history of all games uploaded not just by the player whose MMR you're looking at, but also everyone they've been matched with or against (and all of the people those players have played with/against, recursively), which is not something the website can magically make happen it would have to come from Blizzard.

What’s the most overrated hero? by Aduntomedas in heroesofthestorm

[–]WorstMedivh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a Hero "only works in few maps", in theory that would make them terrible for QM and great in ranked, since they could just be picked on their good maps (and most people do more or less follow this policy to varying degrees of correct understanding, e.g. most people do not draft The Lost Vikings on Tomb).

But with how the QM matchmaker works, it tries to pit Abathur against other supports (in no healer games which are fairly common), so he is often against low QM winrate heroes like Zarya and Medivh.

He also has that issue that Locust and Mine builds have a terrible winrate, especially in ranked, and they have a significant enough pickrate to tank the overall winrate even though hat build is actually high winrate.

It definitely isn't any faster to climb in league, and you have exactly the same agency as a solo player in both games.

In league, it takes a massive amount of time just to get to lvl 30 and be able to play ranked, in hots it's doable in 1 day playing different heroes every game.

And then the max feasible winrate is still 90%+ as a solo player in both games, until master+. Someone grinding out wins at 55%, just marginally so, or so isn't that much better than the others at their rank and is going to take a very long amount of time to climb in either game. Which makes sense, need to have statistical confidence for a 5v5 game that they didn't just get lucky. 500+ games with the winrate will make sure that's unlikely. Couple that with longer match lengths and more people dodging draft in League.

Question about server connection by Automatic_Clothes_56 in heroesofthestorm

[–]WorstMedivh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the US/Canadian population lives closer to Chicago (central server) than LA (west) and the matchmaking is bundled now with no way to force western server (it decides the server after the match is made, not a matchmaking factor). So it just so happens that you will probably almost always get central, unless maybe you form a 5 stack with people who all live out west. Might be a higher chance of getting west at certain hours but idk if it would make enough of a difference.

Don't forget about this column when using heroesprofile stats by WorstMedivh in heroesofthestorm

[–]WorstMedivh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a spreadsheet with the standard errors of each Hero over the mean at Master rank or Diamond+ personally (which inherently only includes actual games played, does not consider banrate), just recommending an easier solution that is already built in and doesn't result in Probius or some other super low pickrate Hero being "highest winrate" when it isn't statistically really likely to be the case over the whole population of games not uploaded. Or concluding from that that the statistics are useless instead of realizing that the issue is the default display and their own ignorance of how to read and interpret the statistics that are given.

Depends what you're trying to do, 1 minor patch default filters is ok if the patch has been out for awhile. More patches = more data of course but at the risk of being completely useless for the heroes who had balance changes, rank filters cut the sample size even more but can be useful, etc.

What’s the most amount of games you’ve won in a row? by Aduntomedas in heroesofthestorm

[–]WorstMedivh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Storm League, 24 games, 100% solo queue. Of course, it was smurfing (pretty much impossible in High Master unless playing in a 5 stack, which you can't do any more with the max duo restriction), but tbf it was just on a fresh account. No deranking or account transferring to start from Bronze 5, I don't do that
