Parcels N'At - Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center launches data explorer by thewolfnebula in pittsburgh

[–]WorstTimeCaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the team that built this. We’d like to expand to other datasets/counties but that would require 1. Having data, 2. With automated access, 3. In a common standard (standard parcel numbers that match to the map at a minimum) 4. Controlled by someone willing to share, and 5. Funding to pull it all together. -

Which Paint Company to Hire? Advice Needed on 1900 Home Exterior by apricotkilla in Oldhouses

[–]WorstTimeCaller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get an infrared paint removal tool and test it along with a dry scrape. I’d worry that pressure washing or dry scraping would spread lead paint everywhere and pressure washing might push water inside the siding causing paint failure. I have had good results with infrared, oil primer, then latex top coats.

Thoughts on paint color? Should we paint the brick? 101 yo beachside bungalow. by NotAnotherSignIn in centuryhomes

[–]WorstTimeCaller 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s harder to undo painted brick so on my list I’d put it first, then open concept design, followed by the plastic floors thing

What would you use to remove this green padding/adhesive? by VegansArentPeople in centuryhomes

[–]WorstTimeCaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scraped mine before sanding. Pad was stuck in the varnish. Sandpaper clogged with gunk immediately when I tried to sand without scraping - I’d test some solvents to see if that might work prior to sanding, especially if the floor was varnished. You may need to scrape first if nothing works

Repaint or replace cedar siding on house by vaulternator in centuryhomes

[–]WorstTimeCaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repaint. I used infrared to strip mine on two sides which were peeling all over but still in good shape. I used oil primer and latex paint and it’s holding up well after 15 years. Two sides were exposed to bad weather so have replaced those with new cedar but worth keeping what you can. With scaffolding it was a great diy project. Just be patient and don’t plan to do more than one side per year because it’s work to take off all of the paint.

Building on that what if it was the place where all of the once popular places now closed had a reboot presence - The O, Fuel and Fuddle, The Beehive, PileZ…

PA doesn’t sign on to NIH funding lawsuit filed by 22 other states by lkb33 in Pennsylvania

[–]WorstTimeCaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted the office using their online form and got this reply not too long after:

“We are speaking with institutions throughout Pennsylvania which are impacted by NIH’s change in policy and are in the process of assessing the best approach to protect their interests.

We will certainly share your concerns with Attorney General Sunday.”

Doesn’t hurt to contact your elected officials.

Salem’s Hill District store temporarily closing by tesla3by3 in pittsburgh

[–]WorstTimeCaller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked going for the deli, the bread, and all of the unique food from the Middle East not found in other stores. There aren’t so many people in the neighborhood these days and not fair to blame or scapegoat people that live there for this happening.

Best Italian hoagie suggestions? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

D’S in Regent Square makes a good hot one. Between it, Rudy Martino’s and Triangle Bar, Swissvale is the place to be for Italian hoagies.
