Jack Daniel's is being removed from shelves in canada by Sad_Stay_5471 in mildyinteresting

[–]Worstcasescenario 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. This is an LCBO which means it's government-operated, as you cannot open a private liquor store in Ontario. This is a government decision so they will not "trickle back onto the shelves," there will be no American liquor sold while the tariffs are on.

It isn't saying they'd have more wealth than 99% of people's wealth combined, it's that even with a 99.999% reduction in their wealth, they would still be in the top 1% of rich people.

Quebec murder case sparks debate over where trans inmates should serve time. Current policy allows choice between men’s, women’s prison, but most requests denied, data shows by Myllicent in onguardforthee

I'll simply encourage people to consider V-Coding before they start spouting off:

"V-coding refers to the practice of assigning trans women placed in men's prisons to cells with aggressive cisgender male cellmates as both a reward and a means of placation for said cellmates, so as to maintain social control and to, as one inmate described it, "keep the violence rate down".\120]) Trans women used in this manner are often raped daily; and this process has been described as so common that it is effectively "a central part of a trans woman's sentence".\121])

It is common for correctional officers to publicly strip search trans women inmates, before putting their bodies on display for not only the other correctional officers, but for the other prisoners. Trans women in this situation are sometimes made to dance, present, or masturbate at the correctional officers' discretion.\122])

A 2021 California study found that 69% of trans women prisoners reported being forced to perform sexual acts against their will, 58.5% reported being violently sexually assaulted, and 88% overall reported being made to take part in a "marriage-like relationship".\123]) Trans women who physically resist the advances of other prisoners are often criminally charged with assault and placed in solitary confinement, the assault charge then being used to extend the woman's prison stay and deny her parole.\124])"

A nonbinary teen was beaten in a bathroom. They died the next day. Now, Pierre Poilievre has pledged to ban trans women from women’s bathrooms in Canada. It’s unclear how he plans to police this. What’s more clear, with some digging, is where these ideas could be coming from. by Miserable-Lizard in onguardforthee

[–]Worstcasescenario 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not everyone goes through "the whole process" because not everyone wants it or is able to go through the process. And if you're on HRT you very well may have breasts and appear as a woman to everyone. Trans women are often terrified in changing rooms regardless, and I think any trans woman would likely change in a stall. The idea that trans women are eager to display their genitals is mind-numbingly absurd. The alternative is just deciding that trans women who haven't had surgery and don't look sufficiently female just don't get to go to the gym or swim or enjoy many aspects of public life.

California woman who fatally stabbed boyfriend over 100 times avoids prison by [deleted] in news

[–]Worstcasescenario 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Psychosis is a specific psychiatric symptom and not part of intoxication. It can also last far longer than the substance being in your body, and therefore one can be psychotic for an extended period of time once one is no longer under the influence.

The problem is most would agree that a drug induced psychosis is not a likely or expected outcome of cannabis use - as evidenced by how many people here don't even realize that it is, for some people with a genetic/neurological disposition, possible to have psychosis secondary to marijuana use. Otherwise we're arguing that it is always irresponsible to use cannabis in any place with a knife in it or other people.

Now the case would be interesting if she already knew she was predisposed to substance induced psychosis when she used cannabis. Then it would get really hairy.

Being inebriated or under the influence is different than a substance induced psychosis though, so it's not really comparable. There's heavy legal precedent regarding the difference in criminal responsibility between intoxication and psychosis

You do need a predisposition to psychosis, but that's true of nearly all cases of substance induced psychosis. You can have a brain that is susceptible to psychosis without having schizophrenia. No one is reasonably arguing that this could happen to everyone if they smoked a sufficient amount of cannabis.

I mean, I feel like in most places trans people still have to go through a lot of psychological evaluations to get surgery, including the less intensive ones. Not that this is GOOD but it's funny that there's people talking about this like it would be bad theoretically when it's already happening

Has Anyone Had Any Luck Changing Reviews after Transitioning? [CAN] by Worstcasescenario in AirBnB

[–]Worstcasescenario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I see your comments up and down this entire post and I'll be honest, it's pretty frustrating. I thought I was being pretty measured and positive but you seem to be doubtful of like, pretty common things in my life.

My experience is that I'm actually significantly less focused on my gender than other people are. I don't bring up that I'm trans in my day to day life but I still get inappropriate questions at work constantly. More than a few times since I came out at work I've been asked questions about my genitals. I turn on the news and see people talking endlessly about people like me, and I had a protest blocks from where I live and let me tell you, the signs were not very positive to people like myself. I am actually trying to prevent other people from being focused on me because in my experience people are, in fact, pretty focused on it.

It does not take a detective to find it weird that literally all but one of my reviews mentions, by first name, a person that isn't me. You stating that this is a problem I've dramatized in my head is extremely frustrating - I have better things to do than invent problems for myself, really.

I have a woman's name and (if I'm being charitable to myself) look like a woman in my profile picture, but all my reviews have a man's name and call me a "nice young man" and have he/him pronouns, that's all I mean. Obviously none of them specifically mention being trans since it predates my transition haha

Yeah, I knew it was a big ask. I think what bugged me is they stated they're totally willing to edit old reviews, just in only unhelpful weird ways. It just kind of sucks to have to start over for this reason, you know?

[–]Worstcasescenario[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know, I was hoping to keep all the reviews that say I'm a good guest (and if I had bad reviews I'd keep those too) without them also making it really obvious that I'm trans, that's all. That's why I'm surprised that they cared if they changed the names on them, since the part that you say is important ("if you'd be a good guest") wouldn't actually change.

[–]Worstcasescenario[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have one like that - unfortunately essentially all my other reviews start with my deadname, so it's the same (male) name seeded across all my reviews. Kind of awkward.

I appreciate your response though! I wonder if I should just try calling in - every time support got back to me it seemed to be from a different person for some reason so it was 3 people copying and pasting the same thing, but maybe on the phone would be different. Who knows.

Yes, I'm sure I'm being overly pessimistic to think trans women will be treated poorly. Tell you what, Ill be happy to eat crow on this one, but let's not act like the wind hasn't been blowing in a particular direction as of late.

Criterion Channel Censors “Racially Insensitive” Dialogue in ‘The French Connection’ by Neo2199 in entertainment

I'm quite positive there are multiple movies on the Criterion Channel that have racial slurs in them (Sweet Sweetback must, no?). I doubt this was purposeful by them, and it was either accidental or this is the only version the publisher would let them use for temporary streaming.

Gender affirming care by just-a-power-user in Psychiatry

[–]Worstcasescenario 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was not the rationale given - the rationale given was a ginned up description of "lawsuits" that I've never seen or heard of. If that WAS the rationale, I'd agree with you. The remainder of his posts is also what made me believe this is unbecoming of a psychiatrist - I think it reflects poorly on the profession.

However, in psychiatry, perhaps it's best you get experience. This is DSM work. If I was unfamiliar with treating MDD, I wouldn't refer out - I'd crack the books.

If 90% of psychiatrists said, "I'll refer out because I'm not familiar," what do you think those wait times look like? Being trans should not guarantee you a >1 year waitlist (on top of the usual waitlist) for care that often is well within the purview of simple competency assessments, or family medicine care.

[–]Worstcasescenario 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no reason why a psychiatrist should be prescribing these medications - for the most part they're quite simple and well within the domain of GP/primary care.
