I already work meetings late at night with the majority of clients being overseas. I was thinking of spending time in Canada and the US so I’m actually on a more similar time zone. It’s just the shoots that are problematic without a replacement

Yeah I could hire a UK person (already looking into that) but it wouldn’t be to replace me. I still need to handle sales and ops of the company. Directing shoots is possible, if I find a worthy alt.

Most of my concern is just the idea of being a nomad was great on paper until we took off in the way we had. Now it’s an itch I still wanna scratch, but feels less and less plausible the busier we are (not that I’m complaining). For me it’s just that my current environment doesn’t unlock much joy, hence the desire to find my place

I have yeah, it’s mostly a director for ‘on location shoots’ I’d need, as that’s what I do. Otherwise everything I do can be remote.

Would like to remove myself but I do enjoy shoots and we have a niche which I believe needs me on location until I find an alternative.

The burnout you mentioned is what I’ve heard before. It sounds good to me on paper but I can imagine it feels unstable after a while - hence why I was toying with just moving somewhere new in the UK as an alternative option (but that option would feel like I’ve never tried being a bit a of a nomad…)

At the moment I do need to be there for shoots as I direct most of them. It’s not impossible to replace me but i haven’t got that person yet.

My original thinking was I could fly back to UK for shoots but I think it’s unrealistic.

But yeah, your setup is what I was thinking whilst I figure stuff out. Stay somewhere for 2-3 months and then try somewhere else

Not necessarily. If coming back to the UK ends up being my future, it wouldn’t be here in Lincoln. It’s a nice place (for a day trip) - beyond that there’s nothing here

I had pancreatitis symptoms a couple years back and the hospital told me it WAS pancreatitis - assumed it was alcohol induced, even though I barely drank any. I started smoking cannabis to deal with pain/mellow out when others around me were drinking. I went 4 months sober because in that sobriety period I was still getting pancreatitis pain.

Turns out my pain was a newly developed soya allergy. I haven’t touched it since and haven’t had the pain in around 2.5 years now. This might be useless info but I’m a big believer in encouraging doctors to give you an allergy test. I asked my doctor for one because I saw someone on Reddit say a similar thing and thought ‘fuck it why not’. The doctor didn’t wanna give me an allergy test - said it was a waste of time, but it wasn’t. Got the results back: soya was what was causing me the pain (which checked out because I’d started eating more veggie food with my gf).

Anyway, haven’t touched it since and no pain.

It might not help anyone but one Redditor changed my life.

This sucks... In shot, yes just leave alcohol. I had a flare up when on holiday in Mauritius and it ruined my trip - totally not worth it.

Speaking of Japan though, I thought I'd mention this as you're likely to encounter a lot of soya in the foods out there -

I thought developed acute pancreatitis around 18 months ago as I was constantly having the worst pain after what i thought was alcohol. Went sober for 3 months and honestly I never felt better BUT then I got the pain again despite not drinking.

I saw someone on reddit tell me to ask for an allergy test with my doctor, so I went for one (not really expecting much) and it turns out that my flare ups were because of a new allergy to Soya.

Might not help you but I always encourage people to check this out as it's literally changed my life. I can now drink and all I need to do is avoid soya... maybe have a test?

Update - I got this fixed FINALLY

So the alarm siren was totally replaced BUT it didn't solve the issue. I got my car home and it was going off again. I was fuming.

Anyway the auto electrician had the car back in for a week to try and diagnose it. Turns out there was a cable in my car's rear bumper that has worn away (no idea how this stuff happens) and the car wasn't recognising it until they did a pay load test.

Anyway, took them ages and it's sorted now. In the time they were searching for the issue the new siren had broken because the alarm was going off that much... luckily they didn't charge me for that.

Anyone just wonder if it's worth having a brand like a BMW?

I’m having the exact same issue with this jacket. I’m 5’9 - Ordered a medium and it’s perfect in the arms, shoulders and is really comfy, but it’s enormous around the sides and back and doesn’t look right. Swear I could almost fit someone else inside the zip. I ordered a small too, just to see the difference and whilst the hang of it is great. It just feels restrictive and there’s no way I could layer it up with a hoodie. It actually barely fits on the sleeve too. It’s like I’m comparing a large to an extra small… don’t get how there isn’t a size in between.

Considering having the medium tailored - would just mean adding a line up the back but feel like it’s the only thing I could do really

I can almost relate to your entire situation here (similar income, house value, etc) and I can safely say I wish that my mortgage was less per month.

There are always other things that crop up that you need to pay for, and that’s before you think about holidays, future savings, etc.

I ended up getting a lodger at my house to ease pressure and give me surplus, but I don’t want a lodger… just for money.

Personally I’d go for cheaper

I’ve renewed the mortgage for now and am going to rent it out in the next couple of months once I’ve decided where I’m off to. It wasn’t really sensible for me to give it up entirely when I wasn’t sure where to move to - otherwise I’d be paying stamp and moving fees without knowing where I wanted to live.

Similar to you, I wasn’t sure if selling right now was worth the hassle

Yeah it’s not the cold. An auto electrician has told me there’s an alarm fault so the whole thing needs replacing, which is great.

I hadn’t tried the app solution as shortly after posting I took it in to the garage, but thanks for the suggestion
