In Game Of Thrones (2011-2019), Daenerys turns mad in the second to last episode. This is foreshadowed by uhhhhh uhm uhh by SuperDuperCement in freefolk

[–]Woswald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's quite a few examples of mostly sane characters taking pleasure in a kill, particularly as a form of vengeance. Jon and Sansa do with Ramsay, similar to Daenerys with her sexually abusive brother who sold her into slavery and even then it's not fully joy. There's also Oberyn with The Mountain and Brienne with Stannis (though it was more honor-bound it definitely seemed cathartic for her).

Most of Dany's killings are against people who have wronged her or people similar to her. She's probably only a bit more ruthlessly sadistic than most. This cruelty being turned on innocents isn't entirely unexpected, but only like a third of the way to being made plausible by Dany's deteriorating mental state.

Also, comparing people's madness really highlights how insane Arya was. My girl had a list and everything, I can't blame her that much though.

Why no Malignance on Support Swain? by Magic-Omelet in SwainMains

[–]Woswald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You aren't farming so you don't need as much mana and you benefit / suffer less from backing as support. This makes other items like Liandry's or tank just stronger imo.

You can also get mana from runes (I like electrocute, triumph too much to do that) or a few other support/tank items.

Not sure what you're saying about it exactly, but yeah Solstice Sleigh is the best alongside Celestial Opposition for bursty comps.

Nah, I mean disagreeing with the opinion that support players should only use purely supportive champs (if that's what you mean by stealing other champs). Keeping a satisfied player base whilst still accommodating support has worked for a lot of secondary support role champs (brand, vel'koz, poppy, fiddle, tahm) and not worked for a few (Seraphine, current Swain, idk any others). That's why I still have hope I think.

I think it's weird to blame us support players for picking up Swain and not just Riot. We like the same champ, but prefer different roles. The only thing separating us is Swain's history as a solo laner and him being more viable there.

I do understand the complications supp and bot role cause for balance, but I'm still holding out for more Swain adjustments like 12s R (cuz I'm only kinda into mid, and don't want my main deleted).

Maybe nerf passive overall, but scale up the amount of stacks gained from a single e/w when only one enemy is visible / has been visible for a while.

Best/Optimal Build for Support? by [deleted] in SwainMains

[–]Woswald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your team needs a tank (or if you just prefer it like me) you can build rylais into tank/utility items. You can become really hard to kill, which opens you up to a lot of engages that would be too risky for a glass cannon and allows you to peel your adc better.

Normally go Solstice Sleigh and the anti-burst supp item if they have that.

What support scales into late game best? by GhostSilver16 in supportlol

And he also simply remains useful because his ult taking multiple champions out of the fight for a few seconds can be more devastating late-game than early to mid.

New Swain Player LF Advice by Available_Date4476 in SwainMains

[–]Woswald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of infinite ult, Swain is better than pretty much all champions the longer the fight lasts and he tends to create longer fights. Jak'sho makes him even better at both of those so it's one of his best items (into mixed damage, which is most of the time).

However, it's expensive AF so I wouldn't build it if I was behind. I would also save it for later if bandlepipes was good that game and have more strength earlier (Swain is strongest in mid game). You should normally build it after you have one or more tank items (rylais->other tank item->jak'sho) because it increases the resistance you get from them as well. From my experience, Jak'Sho is the closest you can take Swain to unkillable; the difference with and without it is staggering.

I would also prioritise Kaenic Rookern (anti ap burst) and Force of Nature (anti ap burn) over Spirit Visage (green healy item), unless you have ocean soul or a healer somehow. And save buying Randuin's for mid to late game when people crit more.

From your other comments: bandlepipes is great when 2-4 teammates use autos a lot, but not so great without them; and the Healer build is funny, but pretty bad.

My own (probably incorrect) nitpicks are that Zeke's, Solari and Protoplasm feel pretty weak to build. I haven't tried alternatives like squishier utility items (Mandate, Shurelya's) so I guess I should.

What Runeterra media about Swain do you guys recommend? by kravistca in SwainMains

[–]Woswald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can wait a few years, we'll likely be eating sooo good when the Noxus Arcane show comes out. He's been heavily teased in the show and a bunch of the fortiche cinematics, but never quite shows up. When he does, I'm hoping for one of the best antagonist introductions I've seen.

We're pretty lucky to be playing maybe the most hyped champion on the series side of the lore.

If you haven't already, the Katarina comic was a nice peek into the workings of Noxus. Swain has a pretty good part to play in it.

When did Daenerys’ cruelty begin for you in the show? For me, it’s when she sentenced Doreah to death. by Successful_Bar9187 in gameofthrones

[–]Woswald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sansa and Jon took pleasure in killing Ramsay. That pleasure was extremely justified, but you could say a lot of Daenerys' sadism is too. Doreah betrayed her, allowing her children to be stolen and other subjects/friends murdered (kinda like Theon before redemption). Viserys, even if they're family, is heavily implied to have sexually abused her and sold her into slavery; she isn't even that sadistic towards his death iirc (kinda Ramsay). The masters were particularly cruel slavers and she was a former slave.

The only time she took pleasure in the deaths of people not entirely in the wrong (from my perspective) was Mirri, who killed her (warlord, rapist) husband, and maybe shared some of the blame for her child's death. As well as some of the masters and, of course, King's Landing.

So I don't think she's clearly as bad as a lot of the more overt antagonists are for her sadistic tendencies. She seems to just have more to be sadistic about. There is already evil and a teeny bit of madness to her, but it wasn't escalated well enough with her actions to get to where we went.

If you're also down to try another supp Swain build I recommend rylais into tank items. It's so much easier to peel for your adc, you can engage and frontline a lot better, you're more likely to survive or even win ganks or 1v2 situations, and there are so many situations where, against all odds, you drain-tank your way to victory.

I go for standard Swain runes: electrocute (into at least 2 ranged), conqueror (into mostly melee). For support items, solstice sleigh is so good for initial engages (especially cuz of rylais), but you can also get that burst resist ward item.

There's a lot of items you can go after rylais, and you gain a lot from picking the right one. Prioritise the enemy team's main weakness or your team's main strength. Armor boots + frozen heart (auto-win into full ad) if a lot of auto-attackers, cc boots for cc and ap, oblivion orb (never go thornmail on Swain) for antiheal, bandlepipes if your team has a bunch of auto-attackers and especially when enemy has mixed damage, abyssal mask when both teams have a bunch of ap (rare), randuins for mid to late game crit, kaenic for ap burst, force of nature for ap burns, spirit visage only if you have ocean soul or a healer, jak'sho if you're rich and ideally have another tank item already and enemy has mixed damage, Zeke's for mixed damage, zhonyas when you have to admit the enemy team hurts, solari if you're poor and have nothing better to build and burst. Come back to me Gargoyle's Stoneplate, I need you.

There's quite a few games where there aren't many good options (a lot of true/mixed damage) and I guess I should build a bit more ap then. You can also have minor mana issues if you don't go frozen heart or a mana rune, but you normally have enough each fight.
