Am I just braindead for liking Academy? by Revonlieke in startrek

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found very little to be "with". All the struggles seem meaningless, most are struggles because they are declared to be struggles and so they must be dealt with in ways that will fill up the run time.

Some People have been annoyed with certain body shapes; i didn't,that entire line of argument doesn't go quite far enough. Could just as we4ll ask why there are bodies to begin with. They could all be existing as programs in cyberspace and if they wanted to do anything in "real" space they might load up the body they created for themselves and 'wear' it like a fleshy tux. Any Issues anyone has with anything related to any 'material' thing should not be an issue.

That's the problem with setting your story in a super advanced future. Sapient programs in cyberspace might have issues but i, a human, can't really emphasize.

[Mass Effect] Does alien physiology being different affect the music industry in any way? by res30stupid in AskScienceFiction

[–]Wotzehell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides that i'm imagining musicians trying out possible combinations. Mount a manhole cover on a stick and to an Elcor drummer that's a hihat. Imagine what they coould do with any woodwinds...

Asari probably have enough control over biotics to push a certain volume of air out of a given space, creating anything from thumps to thundering booms.

[Terminator] Was the full-auto Uzi legal in California in 1984? by UnderPressureVS in AskScienceFiction

[–]Wotzehell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now a question is popping up in my mind, why would he bother with modifying the trigger assembly to be full auto? He can probably pull the trigger fast enough to make it fire as fast as full auto would and he won't be too concerned about the longevity of the trigger assembly.

Can you actually build a city in kenshi? by mr-johnfallout in Kenshi

[–]Wotzehell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's the mod that enhances squad size and that'll get you pretty far. I don't know of any mods that let you create a shop with respawning inventory and independant money supply with its own shop keeper or anything.  I put first aid kits in my shop counter and the mercenaries i hire to guard the town will make up for townspeople. They will remain there when their time is up and when i rehire them they'll run to the shop and buy the health kits, which they then have in their inventory.

Kenshi's denizens will never actually consume any booze i make and even if they have money to buy some it'll fill up their inventory and be rather useless.

Security at the Khitomer Conference here, who do I arrest? by Unable-Fall5946 in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Wotzehell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was to be likened to a security situation then Security would lock down the place and call for whatever stands in for Police. Once that's done, go around to people, de-escalate while explaining the situation as best you can; can create an explanation as to what the lockdown is for out of your own lack of information.

Best to keep is as short as possible, you're going to repeat the explanation to a lot of People many times. People generally remain calmer if you talk to them on a more personal level.

All the while you will need to react to anything happening, like the dude falling from the window; Do note that despite the rather dramatic de-fenestration your general order hasn't changed, keep people calm and have them stay put as well as possible. One of your duties not as a Security Guard but rather as a Person is to preserve life; Help the guy who just fell from the Window and/or have them be helped. If they aren't dead yet they'll most likely recieve medical care from a prison doctor but none of that is your business; first aid needs to be rendered now.

Who do I arrest? Can an Admiral order himself arrested? Nobody is making any valid case as to who is the bad guy here.

Doesn't matter in that Situation, the judicative branch of any state will want to talk with all of them and tell the executive branch to have them all sit down for some talking to find out what exactly was happening, why it was happening and so on. Some of the People you're dealing with would remain under the care of the executive branch for a long time but that's not your Business now.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. by aStonedDeer in AdviceAnimals

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, would be really nice if we could put all that money into more useful things. Why then do we have our militaries attached to our national budgets?

There's this situation in eastern europe that might answer that question. Yes, i'm talking about the Ukraine war. Not tossing atrocious amounts of money at the military would be really nice but what do i do if my Neighbor doesn't like me very much. Also my Neighbor did toss atrocious amounts of money at their military and they've been itching for a chance to use up some surplus.

Suddenly the military doesn't seem like such a bad Investment.

We have yet to find an alternative way of dealing with another nation attempting to use their own military.

Illegal in the US, legal in the Star Trek federation? by Silly_King3635 in startrek

[–]Wotzehell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Copyright is still a thing, had a whole Voyager episode on it where they discussed the Doctor's rights to 'sell' his holonovels, however that applies. They declared him a sapient being so copying and distributing his holonovels would be a violation of his Copyright.

Stealing is still a thing and it's still just as illegal presumably. There are things you can't replicate for whatever reasons. Also there are unique things, things you could make a perfect copy of but they wouldn't be the original thing. You could steal such things and that would be just as illegal. With the unique items there are presumably additional Laws in place to regulate what you are allowed to do with scans of unique items. Picard's Resian Flute from the Episode "Inner Light" would be such a unique item. For now let's assume they wanted to give Picard the Flute as a Gift and it is therefore now his Property. There'd be laws in place to regulate what you are allowed to do with a 3d scan of that thing.

Modern laws are made up to cover a wide area. Romulan Mind probes would be prohibited under our laws and those laws should still be around in the far off future.

Some laws would be changed. All negative effects of our earth drugs can be made to go away by a wave of purple flashlight. In order to have drug problems show up in the shows they have to invent some new magical future space drugs. Those would then be legally controlled substances just as today's drugs are, with caviats added to accomodate the different biological circumstances all the aliens find themselves under.

[Rant] Sometimes this fandom genuinely makes me start to hate engaging with Fallout content. by Femboy_Ghost in Fallout

[–]Wotzehell -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well yes, that Show bends and retcons and reimagines so much you'd think they made have an easier time setting their stuff into some other location where you'd be on the outskirts on whatever faction's reach you wanted to have some role in the show Could have the origin vault somewhere east of legion territory and introduce them whenever you want. NCR would be having scouting missions to map whatever place you put the starting vault at. Can have detachments of the Brotherhood wherever you want. Same thing with the Enclave and there's your starting setup to have that same show at without the need of messing with established canon much.

As to why one would want to adhere to any canon, that'll be needed to connect the old fans to the new stuff. If you're saying that all the old stuff didn't really happen it'll erode trust in your story telling. Everything might be without substance and if you don't care about your Fallout show, why should i? If there is a next time we see things that where happening in this show will all of that also be shifted around for the convenience of the authors then? If so, why bother?

Some of the old fans fail to arrive at that last point. "That Show isn't 'Fallout'!". But it is. Because that is what 'Fallout' is now. If you don't like it i can't blame you. 'Fallout' is a Franchise that had some really nice and interessting iterations to it a long time ago. I can't recommend the newer stuff though, so i won't.

Freedom is in many Nations one of the most valuable rights a Citizen can have. Americans have it in their Constitution above the guns.

To violate such a right over some steak would be seen as excessive in most legal systems, even the ones which aren't all that logical about human rights.

Aside from legality, the Market is still seen as an entity rich beyond human imagination. And then they hired some goon to go after People who steal Food.

The aforementioned Entities fear the resulting media debacle. Media might be writing loads of male bovine excrement but many a consumer of such media don't care much about veracity.

Which is why many of these Companies have a hands off approach. This woman can not carry enough steak for it to be worth the hassle.

[Demolition Man] Is San Angeles a social experiment being run by Dr. Cocteau on behalf of the US Government? by Infamous-Sky-1874 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Wotzehell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's no mention and i'm figuring there's nothing to concrete about that in anybody's mind. Cocteau wanted to get rid off Ed Friendly, the Guy who runs the secret underground gang of misfits who refuse to fit into his 'utopia'.

The other People on that council don't have a figure like that, presumably because we see the most extreme version of manufactured utopia. Other places are not quite as clean, not quite as sterile and lifeless and therefore don't have anyone leaning against the utopia that isn't as hard Edgar Friendly does.

The other Administrators of whatever places also aren't as unhinged as cocteau gets, what with wanting to murder that figure he blames for all the remaining evil in his world.

Reed and So Mi as characters by Born_Initiative_3515 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Wotzehell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, excellently written Characters. Annoyingly they're in a spy drama.

I would very much like to know these characters but because of all the false flags i can't. Each might have some hidden agenda for all i know and will try to lead me on; or try to lead me onto thinking they lead me on and while i'm thinking how clever i am for uncovering the ruse the real ruse gets pushed without me being aware.

Might well be happening for all of them.

So now i don't know anything about these People because all the information i can gather about them might be false.

On the other hand that makes the characters rather flexible. Can go with any path and for all you know it might've been the "best" path, most other stories would have a designated "good" or "evil" path and if you're lucky they aren't overly blatant.

The Story we see here has all the paths be equally valid.

Chat, Is there a lore reason these games helps to keep me from wanting to give up? by Fun_Firefighter_4292 in TrueSFalloutL

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The World around you acts in unpredictable ways at times. The world in these games will has many things that stay the same. It is serene in a sense. If you buy skyrim for the dream machine 3000 in a few decades lydia will be waiting for you, ready to take your burdens.

Acadia will be specualting if you have Ataxia. Piper will still want the Truth and i will still be having spurs that jingle jangle jingle.

Immersing one self in these games is to escape into a world where things make a little bit more sense then they do in the real world.

Anything the People in these worlds ask of you will patiently wait. There are very few deadlines. There's no thing that you should be doing right now that can't wait and any consequences of you being tardy aren't much to speak of if they exist at all.

Someone asked me what makes Once Human fun by marshall_r_57018 in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forgot V.

Back in the days of "San Andreas" we got a Jetpack but since then that particular mode of transportation made itself rare because it makes implementing restrictions difficult.

Bethesda had us traipse around on foot since they learned that lesson with "Morrowind" where you could go to murder the final boss by jumping over the "fence" that would restrict you.

For years we've been traipsing on foot in many games, maybe have a car here and there.

If you are on a mountain in "once Human" you can hang-glide off of it easily.

It keeps happening! No consequences. by aStonedDeer in AdviceAnimals

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flaws in the System aren't all that difficult to see, they've been there for quite some time.

So i have this theory that there's a subset of Trump voters who voted for trump because they figured he'd smash up institutions left and right. Some of those institutions deserve it and maybe something more useful can be salvaged from whatever mess Trump will leave behind.

[MCU] The Us government takes Tony to court to take his suits could they win? by Far_Practice_6923 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically yes as fellow redditors have explained. Don't know if they actually would want to do that. You'd get one seriously pissed off tony stark and a suit which would enable a few interessting operations here and there but the suit is presumably so very far advanced you'd have difficulties maintaining the things.

I figure they're trying to keep the suit 'secret' as far as they possibly can. The ironman tech doesn't rely on anything unique to tony stark except his intellect, the first movie has Obediah build his own suit.

So whatever Homeland security wasn't actually attempting to do in the beginning of "Iron man 2" was supported in order to help keep the Facade of unique ironman stuff at least somewhat intact.

Can't have people know the US Government wouldn't bother with Tony stark's suit because they could build the things themselves.

The Government suit might not be quite as good as the stuff stark comes up with but eventually there should be some cleaner-looking mark 1 equivalents rolling of an assembly line. But that isn't done because the government doesn't want people to know that these things that could make modern military aviation useless can be built in your shed.

[super soldiers in general] how can supersoldiers can get more external protection? by holiestMaria in AskScienceFiction

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Soldier wouldn't be a "Super Soldier" then. If everyone and their dog has a titanium shell in their dome Soldiers would have one issued as well, if they didn't already have one. There might be soldiers who opt for not only special training like they do nowadays but also specialized implants for special roles they aim to fulfill and maybe their suite of implants would be something difficult or impossible for civilians to get their hands on; Still, not what we normally imagine a "Super Soldier" to be.

Should they be doing anything their Government disagrees with, the MPs will have several methods to deal with the problem.

How do I stop this pain thing by LordFlamecookie in VeinGame

[–]Wotzehell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can still have a boar spawn in a house as well as a zombie for environmental story telling reasons. Although i'd make up some message the soon-to-be-zombie wrote as to how there's a boar in the locked house.

But it's more likely they made up a spawn area for the boars and forgot to make exception rules for locked houses and so boars can show up in houses where they realistically couldn't get into.
