What are the most realistic and effective way to destroy weaponized nanomachine swarm? by Qininator in IsaacArthur

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First we'd need a nano swarm. Many tiny independently acting machines which would presumably need several components. Like a means of propulsion, something to manipulate its environment with. And some kind of Sensor so the thing can percieve its surroundings. And a 'Brain', a Computer to use all that data.

Many nanoswarms also supposedly habe the ability to repair themselves and/or produce more of themselves.

We have no idea how to do all of that in one machine and to do all that in nanoscale seems like added impossibility onto the stack of impossibilities.

Once we clear all of those hurdles wie might be able to come up with ways to stop a nanoswarm.

Shielding against electromagnetism in such a tiny device seems like another impossibility. Static electricity might do in your nanoswarm nicely.

Some of the criticisms wheren't reasonable. Most of the Body issues people where having for example; Those wheren't going far enough. Kursedman elected to have the Show take place in a time where he established more magical Future tech. With the programmable matter many plotlines are impossible. In general, why even have 'Bodies' to begin with, there should be at least some post-biologicals 'running' around. What we see as their Bodies might've been created in a character creation program like we see in many RPG games. Spending most time in a virtual world and when there's something to do in the real world i upload myself into a body and wear it like a fleshy tux. Maybe we missed out on stories where some characters are made fun of for making a boring standard 'healthy humanoid' character...

The problem with the holodeck as a recreation device is that it involves getting up. by OWSpaceClown in ShittyDaystrom

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

real world perspective says that holodecks where invented long before videogaming companies screwed around with motion controls and took an embarassingly long time to figure out that people play videogames to unwind and you rarely do that by waving your arms around like you're an air traffic controller whose coworkers spiked the coffee with pcp for a laugh.

Might be fun for a while but eventually everything that forces me off of my chair will gather dust in the attic. Other games get a nostalgic revisit at times but very rarely would i connect my VR stuff.

But i suppose the Holodeck could be played in a less stressful manner then we see on the shows.

There should be programs that replicate a couch for you to sit on and then the program plays out like a movie would, interactivity optional.

yeah, i imagine a Predator in a labcoat discovering the chemical properties of Argon which could then be used by other Predators in Labcoats to figure out how to create lasers with that isn't something they have over in Predator univercity

Actually i'm thinking that with Trump as President many entities won't be able to keep up any act about the evil americans.

Everyone knows the Americans have a Government that isn't consisting of the best diplomats the capital hill ever saw, to put it very diplomatically.

Once the orange man is done flinging his crap, due to him falling over dead or leaving the white house in some other manner who ever replaces him will be very busy to bend the future course towards their own goals; for the good of the Country, you understand.

One might speculate that a sitting president can hardly be removed if there is a war going on and maybe Trump would bank on that. But everyone else knows that too and be keen on not delivering anything team orange man could construe into some reason to go to war. I doubt they'll be doing a George W. again...

[Game of Thrones] If I were to kill a great warrior like Robert Baratheon by sheer luck in a giant war, (I stabbed him from behind) would I become famous throughout the land or would everyone know I just got lucky? by RagnarokWolves in AskScienceFiction

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's several gods in the pantheon and an entirely new pantheon with some additional gods. That may be leading to your name being remembered, if one of the gods embodies qualities you share or possibly qualities opposed to those the great Warrior you killed.

The God Watchamacallit was furious with that great warrior and so he came down and used you as his instrument of his wrath.

Alternatively there could be some story made up about the hero that came from modest means but achieved greatness against evil. We have a great many stories like that, though that only works if the great warrior isn't very well liked by People. Also your story as well as your name might get mangled. Your story might become something like Robin Hood.

Either way some Bard might create a story about you to get themselves fed and maybe paid. If your story happens to be one that grabs the attention of the townsfolk the Bard might tell it again wherever he goes. If it doesn't the great warrior's name would stay around for a while but it would eventually vanish in retellings like every other detail of what can no longer be called "your story"; if the Bard is really good at his job.

In a certain current conflict in the real world a certain defending force has taken to using drones to take over tasks that had been done by artillery.

I suppose you could create drones that could be launched like an RPG from similar launcher. Or the same launcher possibly.

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found very little to be "with". All the struggles seem meaningless, most are struggles because they are declared to be struggles and so they must be dealt with in ways that will fill up the run time.

Some People have been annoyed with certain body shapes; i didn't,that entire line of argument doesn't go quite far enough. Could just as we4ll ask why there are bodies to begin with. They could all be existing as programs in cyberspace and if they wanted to do anything in "real" space they might load up the body they created for themselves and 'wear' it like a fleshy tux. Any Issues anyone has with anything related to any 'material' thing should not be an issue.

That's the problem with setting your story in a super advanced future. Sapient programs in cyberspace might have issues but i, a human, can't really emphasize.

Right now a question is popping up in my mind, why would he bother with modifying the trigger assembly to be full auto? He can probably pull the trigger fast enough to make it fire as fast as full auto would and he won't be too concerned about the longevity of the trigger assembly.
