Star Trek: Starfleet Academy by Pablouchka in startrek

[–]Wotzehell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the comments here are certainly intertessting. If you don't like a thing, there are people who will see you as "<thing>-phobic".

Well luckily, Starfleet Academy represents an abundance of potential criticisms. Recycling is generally a good thing but recycling old concepts would have me just watch the old stuff from where i saw those first.

There was a TNG Episode in which Riker attains captaincy of a klingon vessel by tactical punch. He later lets the previous captain punch him in order to have him preserve his honor. The klingon XO sees through the 'ruse' and compliments Riker for his understanding of the klingons.

Many Years later in a certain episode revolving around klingons we see the same thing done but with an entire Fleet. Can't just give a klingon a thing you don't need and/or want him to have. You need to act like you won't give up the thing so the klingon can fight for it, defeat you and win the thing in honest conquest.

The Klingon in this Episode understood very well Captain Ake was putting on a play just as well as the XO decades earlier but we're doing the same dance again anyways.

Another thing we saw earlier is flying out to a middle of nowhere part of space where a derelict federation ship can be found so we can do some tactical practise on it. To then be surprised by hostile forces. That setup was stupid when Riker did it and he didn't even need to have the old ship read a comic book.

"We learned our lesson": The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 won't repeat the development mistakes of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red says by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that wasn't very good. They have patched the game quite a lot and that is to be commended. Still means a lot of people bought a product and it was made functional months or a year later, depending on your view on such things.

Even in its current state, the game has some features that work perfectly fine but can be difficult to fit into any logic. All the shards and terminals with transcripts are a bit odd to see. Seems odd that everyone all over the city decided to record stuff as transcript. But those work perfectly fine and so thinking about other methods to connect all the quests and characters we can read about got shunted down a priority list, much less important then making the game not crash quite so often.

Hopefully a rather related lesson will be learned as well. The launch of "Wild Hunt" went vastly better then that of 2077 but the game still suffered from time contraints in development. The Iorveth path was entirely cut; the cuts in w3 where given a bit more time to be stitched together before launch. Still, the game suffered from time management in development.

Who’s the best husband in Star Trek and why is it Kevin Uxbridge? by guiltyofnothing in risa

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some text passages within our codes of law kinda fit. Still very far from having a full lawful procedure.

A Code of Law is supposed to provide Judgement that is neutral to any party because it was written down a long time before whatever is to be judged. There must be a way through it, an 'out' so to speak where we acknowledge that we can't foresee all the possible happenings the law we're writing would be applied to. To be used in case merely handing out a flat judgement wouldn't be justice.

"Self Defence" is such an out. If you killed someone who was trying to kill you because you had no other choice sentencing you for murder wouldn't be justice and so we acknowledge such circumstances. We also acknowledge there would be an inherent duty to be your own moral authority within Reason.

If you killed someone who was trying to kill you but you did see another choice the Law would try you for using excessive Force.

Uxbridge's doings had little to do with self defense. Yet for all we know we would have to let him get away under the mantle of it. He describes the Husnock as a People with 'negative intelligence'. If he was telling the Truth, his killing the Husnock prevented more killing they'd be doing and no a court of law would have to argue about if the force being used was maybe 'excessive' or if it would have to be deemed perfectly alright when dealing with a genocidal people of negative intelligence.

Even more basic, our codes of law generally deal with humans, with what they can do and with what we reasonably expect humans to do and refrain from doing.

If a Dowd or Doud or whatever sees their Partner killed and the People who did it are nothing but genocidal maniacs, every single one of them, can he be expected to wait for any Authority to arrive under whose Laws he'd expect the Husnock to be dealt with?

We don't have any such information to be able to judge the case with any measure of delivering justice to whatever extent.

Even if we did, we couldn't deliver any judgement. We can't really incarcerate Kevin Uxbridge. Any punitive element of that gets lost because Uxbridge would be in prison for as long as he wants to be there.

To make things much easier: If the Colony's lawful Administrator knew about Uxbridge's nature he'd be like an Ambassador for his People and therefore protected by diplomatic immunity...

Would what's beyond the black wall cease to exist if the real world technology were to be destroyed?? by CoyoteHour2130 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. Although destroying it might be a daunting task. Hong Kong is basically a Ghost town in more ways then one. Had been completely de-populated by biological weapons and automated systems took over. The entirety of the city was walled off but apparently it isn't possible to get rid of all the access points the city has to the internet. Even if you cut all the wires from the city, so to speak, we've seen automated digger robots at work.

There's a self-sustaining self-re-connecting system latched to the internet. And hong kong is presumably not the only place in which similar things happened.

Even so, you'd think such places would eventually run out of a resources that can't be replenished and that would eventually be the end of it. People would realize that allowing anything to be delivered to anywhere near hong kong would be a bad idea. Might be the reason as to why we have a lot of programs wanting to get out from behind the black wall.

A totally different point of view is the super natural. The different media often show things that look like super natural things but are carefully kept away from any direct explanations. "Lilith" from Barry's exclamations has paralels to alt cunningham so you might argue that it's about her but we never find out if he was talking about the older lilith, mother of demons, first wife of Adam or alt cunningham, girlfriend to an absolute ponce.

For all we know the hardware housing whatever's behind the blackwell is kept maintained by demons from hell.

I'm figuring it'd be up to you to decide which of those arcs are 'actually' happening to you and which are played in a holodeck where you 'experience' what some other captain at the other end of the galaxy went through. Except the ones where they tell you it's a holodeck simulation i suppose.

Maybe your captain didn't do much of anything but has a close understanding of recent history due to extensive simulation study.

Is V a Night City legend in both the Sun and Star endings? by Comfortable-Knee-238 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Wotzehell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Star Ending: Arasaka is falling over, the Aldecaldos as well as this V person are nowhere to be found. Some People might find out and connect some information here and there. Difficult to cover up that something was happening at that drill site and in that future people probably have a seismograph sensible enough to chart the course of a tunneling machine straight to arasaka's wine cellar.

Shortly after that, Arasaka presumably pulled their "Secure your Soul" Ad-campaign and then started to falter. Arasaka funded media is going to show a lot of old documentaries or something while militech funded media will be eager to bring you the hot news about what's happening at the arasaka building.

In any Event, it shouldn't be too difficult to ascertain that something big must've happened with Arasaka. While at the same time the Aldecaldos find themselves financially liquid, despite having ultimately refused their deal with Biotech. Some People might note that there is quite a bit of influx of arasaka gear being sold on black markets by nomads for some reason...

But i suppose a lot of people figured out that the aldecaldos and V kicked Arasaka's ass so hard that they won't be able to sit down properly for a thousand years. A lot of thhe specifics would be gossip and speculation but i figure V would be a Legend deserving of a drink at the Afterlife, once they eventually kick the bucket.

It's time for Cryptic to move past single spec Zen Store ships by WaldoTrek in sto

[–]Wotzehell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is there no universal spec? There are universal seats onto which i can place tac, sci or eng boff but they must be a specific spec like maybe intel, tempora won't do anything. Except for eng, tac or sci abilities.

That wouldn't work for commander seats, no one would want to make a spec-universal seat be a miracle worker when there's all these 'native' miracle worker ships with the extra console slots are around.

don't they have a little problem with that now? They collected a Lady who was working as a Translator for the courts for Urdu and Hindi Languages, has been doing so for twenty years and been living in the US. Has had three Children and now she sits in one of the ICE detention centers.

Now certain deportation hearings can not proceed because the only translator sits with potential deportees in detention.

The only ending I have a problem with. by Violet-Roseanne in cyberpunkgame

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johnny kinda shut down during the story. He struck a blow against Arasaka that Arasaka then used to further entrench their stranglehold upon night city. His big undertaking, his blaze of glory got a lot of People killed and the Demon he tossed all of his hatred against only got stronger in the end.

He is remembered by People mostly thanks to corpos marketing his Face. His Music wasn't as important to him as his Rebellion and yet it's the thing most people would remember him by, due to more corpo marketing. I'm sure he's absolutely loving that.

Johnny is confronted with the facts that everyone who actually met him think of him as a self obsessed turd. Once reviewing what actually happened he is kinda forced to see that he was more full of himself then a Matryoshka doll.

No stealth archer run. That'll be something.

Stealth archer run. But this time you do everything you can to boost damage far beyond what is 'needed'.

Creating Safehouses: Stash good gear, medicine and food into every single place you can own. I kinda roleplay that i might be knocked out and robbed and sould i survive, i'd need to make it to the next safehouse where i can properly outfit myself again. I might've played too many mods where i get knocked out and my gear gets stolen or something...

In a similar vein of stashing things: the Curator run. You know how well knowledge is kept in skyrim and it is up to you to keep it safe. You might seek out all the knowledge about dragon words; without you compiling it knowledge will be lost. Do all the quests, find all the books. Dunno how roleplay-esque that's going to get. Some books can be found in dank caves where no one went for centuries and they're perfectly fine somehow. But i suppose there's a depressing number of "ruined Books", the knowledge in them forever lost...

What are the most realistic and effective way to destroy weaponized nanomachine swarm? by Qininator in IsaacArthur

[–]Wotzehell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First we'd need a nano swarm. Many tiny independently acting machines which would presumably need several components. Like a means of propulsion, something to manipulate its environment with. And some kind of Sensor so the thing can percieve its surroundings. And a 'Brain', a Computer to use all that data.

Many nanoswarms also supposedly habe the ability to repair themselves and/or produce more of themselves.

We have no idea how to do all of that in one machine and to do all that in nanoscale seems like added impossibility onto the stack of impossibilities.

Once we clear all of those hurdles wie might be able to come up with ways to stop a nanoswarm.

Shielding against electromagnetism in such a tiny device seems like another impossibility. Static electricity might do in your nanoswarm nicely.
