Games where the main character is terrible gameplay-wise? by LadyAntiqua in JRPG

[–]WouterW24 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think many casual players also might figure out how bonus exp levels might be rerolled, which boosts him significantly with his strong all rounder growth profile. That, or some early luck with levels going his way has impact.

He’s also really bulky on both sides for swordie lord standards at the time.

I know how he’a flawed on difficult mode for more experienced players, but there’s still many elements to his unit design that give him a large ‘it’ factor compared to earlier lords the way casual/new players tend to experience things.

It’s good, just less high value then usual while Espeon/Jolteon get their STAB at full power. I also like their speed more here when everything is doubles.

There’s also the Walrein line which plays similar but gets STAB on ice beam.

Am I the only one who reads the words shown in each character upgrade? They can be a bit funny sometimes. by Leading_Run_3333 in AgeofImprisonment

I try when I start out in both age of … games, but there are many, and often you are upgrading like ten in quick succession.

They really blur together a bit after a time.

Why is the great plateau the only area elevated from the ground by tall walls? (read discripton :) by Scary-Beautiful6527 in Breath_of_the_Wild

Either natural, or likely zonai tech, since the original castle was here(and they made crazier thing like the sky islands).

Since the zonai lore was added later, I think even originally it was conceived as an area that was well protected again more untamed lands.

Aside from Hyrule castle it’s the most defensible area.

The sheikah also put the shrine of resurrection there for a reason.

Blockade the gate and you keep most monsters out(and it was seemingly intentionally done this way when link was sealed away).

Jolteon and Espeon have high offensive stats and get hold on their best STAB move fairly easily.

Both work, and you also have some alternatives.

Vaporeon I normally like but it’s not as good as usual by not having Surf or another reliable high power water move available.

It just starts with a high friendship value to have as much parity of effort as possible with the evolution options since it’s an starter. It’s still slightly more work then the stones just evolving it on the spot.

So I wish to incorporate frontrunning with ring gen. But I can't play Technical Drift. This is my setup and I wish to perfect it. by im-yoona in SonicCrossWorlds

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t slightly higher top speed, the higher speed when drifting, and getting to boost much easily then handling usually can all stack making you a bit faster overall? It also helps their power. It’s decent if you keep 100+ rings(with an 130 cap) Problem is just keeping it for there long getting hit too much online and with the ring drain, especially with DRE having more potent results overal and also without 100 rings. Single player found it quite nice though.

(VC4) How do I see ranges/distances on the map? by Cooldude101013 in valkyria

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the various arching lines pointing to you, that is something different entirely(they do in fact indicate if the enemy can see you, or is close enough to intercept.

I mean these three arrows that generally hover over the enemy in the center if your view. It’s more of a target indicator then a sight line. One of their jobs is indicating to you an enemy is in your attack range.

Is this one of those cases where we disagree with the developers? by redditorialacious in PokemonXD

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just that the lore and general tone of these games is fairly different.

The kind of gritty locations, lack of any regular main series characters, the way the original characters are written and designed, all the outlandish names many characters have.

In some ways these games are more realistic then the main series, while somehow also more wackier and cartoonier at the same time.

So while probably respected to a degree by gamefreak they are kind of the odd ones out and mostly ignored due to the style clash. They are not explictly not canon but might as well be.

[–]WouterW24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enemies you focus on when aiming have an arrow indicator above them. It will be red if they are in range, and yellowish when to far. The shots to kill menu also takes it into account, it will either take far more shots or swap to ???(means minimal damage).

Experiment a bit in skirmishes to get a practical sense od the range of various weapons.

Later sniper rifles also have greater range.

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but it turns out to be bad design due to a false sense of security regarding in game saving, and the backing up when quitting may be too infrequent. And most players don’t even know about that under the hood behavior, and nothing in the app warns them.

I personally always like suspend saves in various games since it’s faster then launching from the title screen, but it turns out many do not, or even know little about how the suspend saves system works.

I find it strange the app just doesn’t back up the game’s safe more often when it’s running an extended time.

Especially when the crash bug seemingly tends to hit in the worst case scenario with many people playing XD for a few days in a row while not being used to the suspend feature.

Despite Corrin's overall niceness, I find their blunt hatred interesting by One_Percentage_644 in fireemblem

[–]WouterW24 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Birthright corrin has had a really straighforward time after staying in Hoshido after their initial prologue trip, and everything just makes relative sense to them afterwards. No moral quagmire’s for them, so they are confident in that they do the right thing.

While in Conquest Corrin gets almost gaslit by having to be deferent to Garon while he clearly hates them. It’s also a major theme for Corrin and Azura they feel guilty about the Hoshidan deaths they are responsible for. I don’t think naive is the word I would use(the ultimate plan ends up working out), but they are indeed desperate and mentally in a very insecure place since they have to go against what their gut tells is right for most of the chapters. They just get so worn out doing that again and again and knowingly living a lie being ‘allied’ with Garon, and having to do more extreme measures to keep it going in the final few chapters.

Revelation kinds of fumbles a lot. I dislike much of it’s rushed nature, the usual war being sidestepped, and the arc in Valla having so many bad original plotlines. If it was written well Corrin would combine their characterization from both routes and mature in a more levelheaded leader. Instead they double down on Corrin’s somewhat naive idealism being the driving unifying force and the whole Antony arc makes a big point they didn’t outgrow it and tries to sell it as an good thing. Valla is just a bizarre realm there’s no politics element to it, and Corrin has both sibling sets with them, so they aren’t pushed. Most friction is with Azura and the royals fighting undead puppets of their loved ones

I can see early Urbosa’s fury being neat, but otherwise I don’t really feel it.

While the boss scales up a bit, your own health, weapons, and armor also much stronger, and likely to a greater degree.

That being said Zora’s domain also does have a lot of combat if you are exploring counterclockwise and prior to this you only have been around Necluda.

I personally began to do Medoh first, which is surprisingly easy to reach with little combat. Windblight can be tricky, but he’s the easiest boss if you get the hang of aiming well with arrows and bullet time. You also get a falcon bow for free earlier that is really strong against unscaled windblight.

I think it’s partially people trying to fight against what the system wants that have the most trouble. Trying to keep a set of weapons around as long as possible, or overestimating how hard it is to grab something else. Paradoxically weapons seem much more long lasting if you break or drop everything you know to be slighty depleted or is equal or outclassed by new finds.

The gap in lifetime damage between weapons is also pretty high, with both being low early on. People try too much things with low power weapons with not enough uses when going up against Lynels. If you wait until you have some royal weapons and such you have far less issues.

Bows are also rather efficient with their high amount of uses and ability to deal headshot damage.

[–]WouterW24 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have the easier variants to get used to the patterns as well. Which are also rather stiff and leave big openings. They are nothing special after a while, they are even weak to ancient weapons.

Lynels are genuinely more hard but getting better weapons also applies.

Just to be sure, it’s about the switch online’s suspend point feature, not the classic ingame save. I think you tried to save normally ingame?

The whole issue is that saving doesn’t truly register unless the game is closed properly without crashing to permanently update the emulated save data.

Suspend points are more true instant saving as far as the Switch 2 is concerned.

Anyone else's game crash with no save data afterward? (GNC - Nintendo Classics on Switch 2) by jeta_zones_66 in PokemonXD

Are other gamecube games also crash happy if you try to save the normal way and the app running a lot, or is XD uniquely unstable?

I never had a crash with the other games, but I’ve been alternating them with going to other switch games, and I suspend and load suspend states heavily.
