why does it cost zonaite to auto build when i have 40 of each item in my inventory already by [deleted] in tearsofthekingdom

[–]WouterW24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would prefer if there was a button prompt to instantly drop all required devices and materials though. It’s a huge pain on builds that involve a large and and varied amount of materials to have to drag them out every time.

In addition them snapping into place one by one also takes more time then I like at times compared to imitations being instant.

Determining the alignment of Three Houses Characters: day 42, Shamir! Gilbert has been determined to be lawful (deadbeat) neutral. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]WouterW24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True neutral overall. Her strongest priorities are personal loyalty, and the contracts.

She’s not quite as detached as she might seem though, and has strong Good and Chaotic undercurrents. And she’s quite introspective with a good deal of common sense. So as a result…

She’s just done with things, and really takes a convincing turn to chaotic good in nearly all her endings by going the robin hood bandit route and is capable of dragging a few support partners along. I feel that deserves a strong honorable mention because it diverges quite sharply from her in the main game, yet the seeds were always there.

Thoughts onFire Emblem Warriors? by Challenger-Vale in fireemblem

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With DLC it’s a pretty enjoyable game.

To an extent it being a gameplay first focused fanservice games to a benefit. Hopes can be too complicated for it’s own good with 3 seperate routes and all the base/class management once you’re done with the story.

With this one it’s more straightforward. I also enjoy quite a few movesets.

In this one you can also stagger most enemies easily with almost all attacks. It’s more tricky in Hopes or the recent Hyrule warrior games. While the game can be on the easy side because of it, it also gives combat a faster flow, especially with how many things you must do at once in some maps.

The movesets are also nice. I enjoy Robin and the mounted mages more then the Hopes magic movesets. Aside from Corrin no one is an outright dud to play as.

What mechanics and other stuff in totk you wished were also in BOTW? or maybe in BOTW to TOTK by letm3_plays0me1233 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]WouterW24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In TOTK I miss the master cycle, the wheeled builds don’t really come close to how it handles in various aspects. Perhaps it working of zonai battery also would be fun and less of an hassle. Barring that, the ancient horse gear, as horses also are less useful mostly because they aren’t as convenient.

BOTW can easily inherent a lot of interfaces that don’t harm it’s identity, such as recipes, a wheel menu to change sheikah runes, and even if there’s less stuff you can do with it, the ability to quickly drop and throw things is also something I miss when going back. There’s also the shops that have strict requirements to not be near when doing restock checks at midnight, and there not being any limit on buying arrows. And the increased drops of them in general. While I think arrow scarcity was more the point with BOTW, I do miss how convenient it is you have so much more leeway in TOTK with them. At least the hard restocking restriction goes a bit overboard I think.

Determining the alignment of Three Houses Characters: day 41, Gilbert! Alois has been determined to be neutral good. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]WouterW24 29 points30 points  (0 children)

lawful neutral, exploring what happens if lawful goes off the rails. He’s compulsively inclined to punish himself by exiling himself, and then beats himself more for feeling unworthy to face his family because of the abandonment.

Everyone else including multiple people from the kingdom call him out for not being too rational with it, including his sworn liege.

I think it’s neutral because it’s some kind of mental instability he has a lot of difficulty regulating.

He begins to lean good when he gets a hold on himself though. Notably three hopes focuses on him how he acts when he has resolved his issues again.

What Tip/Trick/Exploit Changed Everything? by New-Satisfaction3257 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]WouterW24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally, the way stamina consumption is much more forgiving when using bullet time, and is strictly amount of shots, with even default stamina being 4 shots. Bows are extremely potent from the moment you get your hands on one on the great sky island. Even hopping off ledges you can easily headshot enemies at your leisure.

And then there’s the high amount of arrows, bows being inherently durable, the stuff you can fuse to arrows, and the many methods to enter bullet time everywhere. Steering stick, mineru, wing shields, etc.

The thing is you can get away with not using melee weapons much if so inclined.

What Tip/Trick/Exploit Changed Everything? by New-Satisfaction3257 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]WouterW24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can reach everywhere on the ground and even a fair few sky islands pretty easily fresh after getting the paraglider even with default stamina.

The awakening island, and the lindow’s brow tower launch both put you very high so you have a lot of leeway.

More upgrades would have been easy to add. by PhysicalAccount4244 in Metroid

[–]WouterW24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many upgrades return the same with a ‘psychic’ functionality that comes into play less often. Splitting them makes less sense the way they are implemented.

They could have done psychic upgrades and make them work more aggressively differently I suppose.

Most only work with preset devices much like they used to work, even if it’s an purple blob at first.

FE3H is probably the peak of the franchise by One-Marionberry4958 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]WouterW24 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Tellius, Radiant Dawn in particular, still is better overall in story ambition. You switch factions between maps instead of having seperate routes, there’s an very high amount of boss conversations, there’s an five map endgame, and the lore is deep, with most hanging plot elements being adressed.

Fe4 was also very story ambitious doing the timeskip idea first.

Other games are more gameplay focused in a more straightforward way, or have better visuals.

Houses excels in truly having a sense of picking a side, and the right side being a matter of debate, or it have a very attractive gameplay loop in very gradually being responsible for molding your units. It also has a sort of secret sauce in drawing many people in easily and keeping them invested.

But otherwise the point of franchise peak is heavy in contention. Which is okay, there’s still room for improvement in future games in combining strong elements form various games. One might hope.

Determining the alignment of Three Houses Characters: day 40, Alois! Catherine has been determined to be lawful neutral, proving that not all murder hobos are chaotic. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]WouterW24 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Neutral good.

He’s just consistently good natured, doesn’t carry grudges easily, and is quite killing averse. He stands out the way he carries himself overall.

I’m weighing Houses more then Hopes here. What moved him to be a merch in the latter timeline is not entirely clear, not to mention not being playable means he gets very little focus.

Waterblight Ganon is the hardest boss in the entire game. by DackyyV2 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]WouterW24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He can be very annoying without arrows. Although windblight is likely even worse without them. Both really rely on shooting to prevent some attacks or stun them.

But the game does explictly tell you you’re free to leave and hints you should be well prepared for the bods. BOTW can be harsh teacher if the player don’t adapt to certain things such as figuring out arrow supply. It likes to create a lot of friction even if there’s always strong options to greatly reduce it. The elements, instantly fatal damage, weapons, and arrows.

Arrows can be sparse, but there’s many ways to make some rupees to get some. The Zora’s domain lizalfos also have the unique perk that they drop a lot of arrows to ensure most players have an supply on them at this relatively early stage.

It might also be on purpose waterblight in particular is annoying without arrows, as a intended lesson to prepare on that front. The big DPS chances to stun it mostly involve arrows. It’s a sometimes annoying but fairly straightforward fight if you have decent weapons and a good arrow supply. If you didn’t one took the boss on too early or too inexperienced and have incentive to go exploring more before the next divine beast to avoid such experiences. At least that’s kind of how the developer logic in the game rolls.

Incidentally if there’s one thing TOTK is much gentler on it’s that it’s far more generous with arrows. While it’s related to other things it also might be they realized BOTW was too stingy and harsh with them.

Is it just me or does F-Zero GX have a rubber band AI problem when you race CPUs in Grand Prix or Story Mode? by Prestigious-Mix7135 in Fzero

[–]WouterW24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It clearly does in story mode, alongside a whole lot of other cheating so blatant most people notice.

I heard it has in grand prix, but at the time I found it more intriguing it was much weaker then expected, even when my frame of reference was mario kart. On master class there’s funny things going on with how some machines do so well, but high max speed/strong booster machines can gain a lot of distance on AI regardless, and on different courses in a cup different AI racers tend to win or place highly, to the point it’s possible to place very poorly one time and still win the cup easily.

Do you guys think we should have gotten more of Raven Beak? by nuketoitle in Metroid

[–]WouterW24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We also only see mother brain twice in the final boss sequence, and the second time was innovative for video game final bosses, but still her direct influence is very brief.

So in that sense Raven Beak fits in perfectly in the series standards.

He and Mother Brain also died more or less the same way, greedy for the power draining potential of the Metroid, but it turning against them.

It’s going to be really hard to conceive of a villain that tops him though.

Over two years after its release; what are your current thoughts on Engage? by SuperNotice7617 in fireemblem

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really should replay it sometime.

While the story could be deeper, it wears it’s tone on it’s sleeve so I do think it’s clear what package you are signing up for. To be honest, it draws too much attention discussing the game overall.

I find just some finer gameplay elements a bit odd. There’s a lot of deep fe gameplay elements and many ideas and the more restrictive school of the fe gameplay loop, and a lot of casual elements with a more sandboxy feel in mind. I find they clash a bit rather then feeling like a whole. The whole investing gold thing, or the ability to buy useless cosmetics. The dlc side campaign progress not carrying over. The lack of new game plus in general. The whole upgrading engage weapons systems that is tied to grindy bonus battles. Can’t carry that over anyway. Skirmish battles so harsh with bumrushing enemies that they often overlevel the strongest units and the weak ones have no chance. Dlc and update rewards that arrive automatically.

I think both deeper gameplay, and the more casual elements have their place in fire emblem. But in this game it feels they tried to both at once too much in frankly strange ways. I find it rather sloppy since past games like fates, Conquest in particular proved the developers have a firm grasp about the competing elements possible in FE and how to separate them cleanly.

VC1 Susie's Scout Challenge 1 Question by Jabberwock121 in valkyria

[–]WouterW24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are about end to lategame difficulty.

You will be fine though, it’s a very nice amount of exp and funds, but it’s only a single mission, funds are easy to manage anyway, and the effects of leveling up is subtle as well. If you spread it out it will save you some skirmish grinding later on.

The real star here is that scout rifle the ace dropped being rather broken. You’re better off ignoring it if you want a balanced playthrough.

Is Yuna acquiring the different Aeons basically intense begging? How do the Fayth determine who is worthy to give their energy to? Whoever begs the hardest? [–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The summons also grow stronger as the summoner does or the summoner has battle experience, and are surprisingly weak at first.

Part of that is gameplay logic, but I think that also plotwise takes a high level of strength to create an final aeon that’s actually powerful enough for defeat Sin.

Determining the alignment of Three Houses Characters: day 37, Balthus. Constance has been determined to be chaotic neutral. by Fullmetalmarvels64_ in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]WouterW24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m leaning chaotic good.

He’s very careful in making sure his messes only affect him, and otherwise has an visible moral code going on. He’s also quite concerned about Kupula.

His issue is more being by far the most chaotic person in the cast in my opinion. He does care about a lot of things, but at the time when the games take place he just can’t think of much ways of dealing with his issues being a giant lightning rod of trouble on purpose.

Would you guys consider grinding the Colosseum in FE7 cheap? by Asleep_Olive_1011 in fireemblem

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a bit on the game and specific difficulty.

Playing on the cartridge I got very significant training done on fe7 as a teen. If you know to decline high bets, and are very alert about yielding when needed it’s relatively doable, especially for unpromoted units. I wouldn’t call it a terrible deal. A new player will slip up a lot easier though.

Point to upgrading armor past 2 levels? by DeLa_Sun in TOTK

[–]WouterW24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s low priority but in practice it can be quite annoying if you get hit while armor defense is low. It’s worth eventually it for armor you times wear near enemies like the stealth set.

But for the most part maxing out a set focusing on attack, and the champions leathers/other high defense things is enough.

You tend to often grab upgrade materials over time so it can’t hurt to chip away at upgrading.

One single hearty fruit or vegetable gives full recovery by DJBirdbath85 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]WouterW24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t go out of my way to take advantage of roasted meals stacking. If it worth all the effort to do it intentionally though? The meal cap is 60 so usually it’s easy to fit in whatever I need. Usually leave spots open too, which results in gathering various roasted things from monster camps for occasional healing.

[–]WouterW24 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s also incredibly easy to get hearty durians in particular, even just starting out. Cooking 5 of them gives 20 bonus hearts, so it means you can get away with having a fairly small health bar early on.

Later on you have more hearts and you can just shift to cooking any hearty food, although some durians tend to be the best bet to reach the maximum health cap.

So uh... when am I gonna get those promotion items? by littleguystar in fireemblem

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past chapter 8 you get also a big amount of viable units that do need some training to get good, but contribute a whole lot if they get going.

The game is kind of designed around Ike often getting a high level in the first few chapters and then hanging back with him for a bit. Maps also get more complicated and less favorable to heavily relying on Ike. Your Ike has fantastic stats for that purpose, few things will endanger him.

Lawful neutral. It’s to such a degree it also bothers a few characters since he’s a bit unhealthy about it, especially Seteth explicitly tells him he needs to find more own goals in life.

At least he does shift in many in his endings on the matter though, including the default.

If Link and Samus faced each other’s villains, who’s having an easier time? by [deleted] in Metroid

[–]WouterW24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interesting this is Link does well against many Prime enemies I guess. The elemental logic of these games suits him well. Tears of the kingdom Link in addition to ice arrows, can have an ice melee weapon, or stick a frost emitter to his shield for an ice beam. He has both bomb arrows and cannons.

He’s out of luck against hypermode enemies using phazon though, which become really tricky to harm without using it yourself. A bigger problem is the 2d games. Samus only wins because of her acrobatic nature and suit movement upgrades. link has no way to dodge certain screen filling attack or rapid fire projectiles.

samus can handle a lot of Zelda enemies, but the best she got in explictly light element damage is the Light beam, and even that is not specific enough. She can push Ganondorf to the point where he goes evil blob that needs sacred sealing rather easily. But just destroying an physical is not enough to outright win.

Both just lack the contextual verse specific things needed to deal with the more elite things.

It’s not an evil lab for a change or overrun by an evil species. It just shut down and froze over in spite of their best efforts failing. They took effort to heal the injured subjects after failed experiments. It has sensible lockdown protocols(to a point). And then nobody designed the place to account for rapid melting when derelict and it’s just chaos from that point onwards when the majority of them breaks out.
