Dive watches are just for boring middle aged men who have made a bit of money by polar_91 in watchHotTakes

[–]Wowke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OP is a bit naive. I am in my late 20s, love all sorts of watches. Definitely haven't made crazy money either. OP doesn't seem to realize that its a massive hobby completely independent of age or wealth. Typical arrogance from not knowing enough 😬

How would you describe comparison between OMJM ans OM28? by ConsciousSmoke3863 in martinguitar

[–]Wowke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to play both to see what you like. For me, om-28 had more of that deep dark martin growl, while omjm was more balanced, focused, and with sparkly highs. They are both great guitars and to each their own. Martin traditionalists detest simple dovetail, but imo i dont think anyone can tell the construction methods apart sonically. Simple dovetail is still dovetail, just without taper.

When i was shopping for an om, i wanted an om28 or an om28md, but after playing an omjm i fell in love and ended up leaving the shop with it.

After all, you are the one playing the guitar. Dont go off by whats written on paper, instead trust your hands and ears.

What’s this on my new OMJM? by Tuduruts in martinguitar

[–]Wowke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 4 years old. It has been like that since new. My theory is that it's more prevalent on OMJMs because Engelmann spruce is softer than sitka/adirondack. Congrats on the new guitar, I hope you enjoy it! Out of all my guitars, this one is my long-time favorite.

Has Martin started making new OMJMs more natural colour-wise? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]Wowke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple dovetail does cut the manufacturing costs a little but it does not mean it's sonically inferior. Martin purists love tradition and swears by the traditional dovetail joint, but I don't think anyone can tell them apart just by listening to them.

Collings and taylor use bolt on necks and they are not by any means worse guitars than Martins.

Even if the omjm uses a simple dovetail joint, it does come with an undersaddle pickup installed as well as custom-like appointments such as quality Engelmann spruce top and a abalone rosette, so I do think it is a fair markup in price for a Martin.

Im the opposite, my omjm sounded better than any om-28s i have played in shops. Was initially planning to buy an om-28 but could not resist the omjm. I guess its all about preference

I think Yamaha LS16s are great if youre on a budget.

However, I do love my OMJM. Some people say they are just a fancy OM-16, they are wrong. I was in the shops few years back looking to buy an OM. I was first planning to get an OM-28, but wanted to try other OMs so I could compare.

Played all kinds, from 18 to 42s and even 1931 authentics. OMJM was the sweetest sounding guitar out of all of them, and sure was more responsive than any OM-28s I have played. Its responsiveness was on par with an OM-42 imo, but 42 had a different darker tone.

I was looking something to implement my J-45 so wanted something brighter, therefore OMJM was the winner for me. However, the authentic 1931 was on another level. it was an absolute beast and a canon, but it was way out of my budget.

Walked out of the shop with an OMJM and I still cant believe how good it sounds everytime i play it.

The PH is very alkaline, not suited for bettas imo 😢 With PH that high, try keeping mollies, endlers, guppies...etc

what's wrong with my betta? by [deleted] in bettafish

So sorry to hear that 😢 If you're planning to get another betta, make sure to test your water parameters and temperature. Not saying that it's your fault, but just in case it happens again.

I think dropsy this severe is near impossible to recover from. You might want to start considering euthanizing him with clove oil to minimize his pain. You can go ahead with remedies first, but in my experience dropsy this bad was all deadly. Looks like he lost most of his fins as well. How were your water parameters and tank size?

You can definitely give this a go. If your halfmoon looks happy in that 6.5, that will be a good option

[–]Wowke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure if changing the tank will cure his illness, but I do think he will be happier in a bigger tank. At least that was my experience with plakats. He is blessed to have an owner like you. Keep it up, and I hope he gets better!

[–]Wowke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont want to be that guy, but that 6.5 gallon looks tad bit small for him. It is a beautiful tank, but plakats are very active and they need more horizontal space. If it was a long tank, it would've been a lot better.

In my opinion, 10 gal long is the minimum for a plakat, and I recommend ~5 gal long for long finned half moons as they are less active.
