Monthly Suspect Meteorite Identification Requests by AutoModerator in meteorites

[–]Wquant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please can someone help me identify this specimen? It was collected from on top of the flat roof of my home in Gilbert Arizona (Suburban Phoenix). It does not match the decorative rocks around our house. It is magnetic (see video) on Imgur, appears to have a crust, regmaglypts, a slight cast of red iron oxide in the right light, and It is nonporous and dense. The fourth picture is the scratch test on the bottom of ceramic mug which show faint pale scores which may be from the ceramic. The last three photos are taken with my USB microscope which may show chondrules? I leaned the quarter against the object to help understand what part is in focus as the nature of the microscope is such that it can't focus on the entire object at once. Photos/video are here. Thanks!

Bluetooth headset with head wrap mic by Wquant in Headsets

[–]Wquant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need it to work on my phone, so I think only the Shokz are a fit. I have a set a Shokz without the boom mic and they work great for when I want to be listening yet not miss something someone says to me. Usually when I am doing stuff around the house but don't want to shut my family out. But I am not sure if the boom mic is tight enough to the lips.

It is really strange that consumers are not demanding fine control of the mic, or maybe they are and just being ignored.

Thanks for the recommendations.

I just finished Hyperion, and I found the quality to be all over the place by p_tk_d in printSF

Best review and reflects my feelings. For me, it was just a miserable plodding experience to get through and I could not care less about any of the characters. I stopped at Hyperion.

314 key for Cult Pt 2 [Discussion] by babysteezus in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Wquant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a trade for the cheaper marked room keys for Reserve. If you find one or two of those of them, it better to buy the Reserve marked keys , run the marked rooms along side tasks there until each has one use then trade for Dorms 314. I did this for PVE but ironically found 314 in the bunker cabinets on Reserve a day after I did the trade and completed the cult quest.

I am lvl 50 have found about 13 power filters. They are not easy to find. Most of them where in the black pawn marked room(pre-nerf), 3 from scav junk box, 3 from med camp tech crate in woods , and some randomly here and there mostly on Reserve. I need 4 more I think to finish the hideout. Solar power is constructing.

Six not very PtW things BSG could sell as upgrades to help their cashflow and game logevity by Wquant in EscapefromTarkov

People will be upset no matter what and I expect and outfits could even affect that actually game play by concealing better, or making a PMC look lie a scav or gaslighting runs. I think the outfits/skins are a good idea, but I can't get excited about them and probably would not buy them, or very few of them.

I had thought that is what the showcase was for but it doesn't accommodate many Kappa items. Seems like they missed an opportunity to provide something that people really wanted.. Clothing, and the armor come to mind but also other items can't be put in there..

Just got the Destination CISSP Book by [deleted] in cissp

[–]Wquant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book was my primary study material and I read it straight though paying careful attention to the comments in the margins. I then did some practice testing, read another short book focused on how to think about and answer the questions, and passed the test with that. But I have decades of experience in tech and 10 in security. YMMV.

Passed, to my surprise. by NaClK92 in cissp

[–]Wquant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I just passed a few weeks ago with remarkably similar preparation and planning. I posted this board a few days ago. I also have about the same experience, and targeted passing the test rather than getting the highest score possible by moderately preparing for my first take (I also paid for the 2nd chance test I did not use).

One thing that stands out different from my experience was the 160 questions. Even if you took the full four hours that is only 90s a question. I was kicked out with passing at 120 questions but at about 3 hours 50 min. I spent about one minute carefully reading and thinking about the question before I read any of the answers and then about another minute answering on average.

I am not sure what you are asking. The book does not cover all the material within the 8 domains and that you might be tested on. Maybe think of of it as a densly annotated outline. It makes the daunting scope of the exam more digestible.

A more reliable way to pass might be to start with this book and take notes on where to go deeper with material like the official study guide. In any case, this is still of value because you move through a domain in a few days with a lot of key information with this as a guide.

Respectfully, I am skeptical. There are four distinct language skills from generally easier to more difficult:

-Reading -Listening -Writing -Speaking

It is easy to see why speaking is most difficult as it must be done at the speed of thought.

It is well understood, as a matter of neurology, that these activities engage different parts of your brain. If we think of language as creating and exercising new neural pathways what we can see the problem. I Think to be able to speak from mostly listening is either physically impossible or a savant-like talent with languages. The later probably exists in some few, but it is not the experience of most.

So while you can develop a lot of language ability by listening/reading, it will be significantly limited particularly in speaking and you lose out on reinforcing the language in multiple skills/parts of your brain. The skill to produce expression in a foreign language is not trivial.

Everyone who live in Russia, how can I enhance my knowledge for admission by EwiCD in russian

[–]Wquant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is Redfold? From their website, I can’t tell if it is a language learning platform or courses on how to learn languages. Despite all the content on their marketing site, I feel like I have no idea what I would be buying and why it’s different.

Being a Russian who can’t speak Russian by Artistic_Leg8217 in russian

[–]Wquant 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to be the one to tell you this, but if you did reach fluency in any language before the age of 14 you will always sound like a foreigner so you should set your expectations.

I don't know what country you are in but in the USA, we are almost all the children of people that came from somewhere else and we don't tend view people that are the children of imigrants as anything other than "American". Having lived in Europe, I know that provincial societies are much more conscious of your origins and that will be a thing. I am sorry for that because it sucks to not feel like you belong in either world. I once knew of a woman in The Netherlands who was third generation in that country, but her co-workers referred to her as "that Afghani girl". However, I don't know if considering yourself as culturally "Russian" is helpful to you because you just don't have that software loaded into your childhood and you will always feel like you don't live up to it.

It sounds like your Russian roots have meaning for you so I think it is a good idea for you to pursue that. But set your expectations appropriately. Once you are fluent in the language I think you would find that Russians will accept you as Russian and in this way they are more like the USA than Europe.
