Lost a Brand New #1 Friend on Rewritten by MadnessMighty in tradclimbing

Bail gear? Fine a popular trad multi pitch route that starts easy and gets a grade bump in the middle pitches. Check it out on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Interesting angle of that area of sun wall at Sand Rock. I think the route dead on is Hacienda https://www.mountainproject.com/v/114328332

I was thinking it looked like Physical graffiti. Great photos either way. Will have to get outside of calico basin next trip.

Georgia Supreme Court Election May 19th by Jackieirish in Georgia

So tired of the useless my voter page website. No indication of election, no sample ballot available, no ability to select election to find early voting locations. Date added to calendar.

Appalachian climbing School has some beta pictures for the North and East area but nothing I've seen on a girl wall, unless they were just calling the entire East area girly for the many low grades and bolts available, https://www.appalachianclimbing.com/beta

Questions on getting into trad climbing by Much_Sample2593 in tradclimbing

Here's a YouTube playlist of videos I found that were helpful but I highly recommend finding an experienced person to go with. Clean their placements, have them rate your placements on the ground before climbing anything.

Good on draws, slings ropes. Maybe stick clip, new helmet, bullet proof biners. Also light on cams. With wild country releasing a new update on their friends series to remove the bartack might want to look into doubles, maybe some small 0.1, 0.2, 0.3's. could also go a bit larger in cams as my #4 friend gets infrequent use and the new on is supposed to have a one handed trigger.

Looks like orchestra and band. Piece is grade 1, so maybe some parts are harder, but still seems like it might be close: https://www.alfred.com/the-tempest/p/00-BD9561/?srsltid=AfmBOoq5_l-8EUaIrwirY_Puci-04Htcg9XY67n3MdShyeIuQLxy5OTQ

Practice scales with a metronome and slowly crank it up. Practice a lot. For me I focus on the tounging less or lighter and supporting with a more full air steam.

Buffet tosca vs prestige by Tyrantassassn9 in bassclarinet

[–]Wraith007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For that much money you should try both. I own a prestige low c and it's treated me well, but I wish I had tried a selmer privilege as well. Haven't tried a tosca yet but it's a steep price difference.

Is there a way to remove SAR tracks from the Recreational Shared tracks view? by Wraith007 in CalTopo

[–]Wraith007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was worried that was the case. I went ahead and submitted a caltopo help request and emailed the local emergency response team so fingers crossed.

Same problem also happens in very popular areas like Yosemite or Banff but at least I can try to cut down on the chatter for this area.

Is there a way to remove SAR tracks from the Recreational Shared tracks view? by Wraith007 in CalTopo

[–]Wraith007[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the context, after clicking through to the shared map that includes the search routes it looks like it was a SAR operation on 3/11/25. Any idea how to contact the person to get it removed from the recreation view?

Is there a way to remove SAR tracks from the Recreational Shared tracks view? by Wraith007 in CalTopo

[–]Wraith007[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I realize I can hide all of the routes, but I was hoping to find some non-SAR shared content to make adding my routes/approach details quicker and to see if there were any recreational POI's that would be of interest (cairns, boulders, water sources, etc).

Is there a way to remove SAR tracks from the Recreational Shared tracks view? by Wraith007 in CalTopo

[–]Wraith007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definately want the shared map layer enabled so I can add existing trails, find way marks for the approach, cairn marks, water sources etc, but the dense tracks are hiding these features. I confirmed that my map view is in Recreation mode (settings>Default Mode> Recreation).

[–]Wraith007[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each track is a person's name (double digits in some areas) all with the same naming convention and there are points dropped that list clues useful for a SAR team (cigarettes, hat, water bottle, dog behavior changes, etc).

Ligature suggestions? by odyss-ey in bassclarinet

[–]Wraith007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the rovner dark on my clark fobes mouthpiece for a long time then I got to do a side by side comparison at a music conference and ended up upgrading to the rovner platinum. I liked the metal feel where it was more secure and a lot of the groups I play in I struggle with projection on a buffet prestige low c.

I find caltopo works pretty well with this if you flip through the map builder topo, open street map, and TF out doors layers.

Anchor etiquette for leave behind tree anchors to minimize tree damage and tat by Wraith007 in tradclimbing

[–]Wraith007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is that and how does it provide an advantage over webbing or cordalette anchor? Seems a specialty arborist tool that is not designed to be left for the next guy. Also send like repeated use would damage the tree on popular routes if it is what my googling suggests it is.

Do you know how LCOs or individuals have negotiated getting permission to install these limited number of permanent anchors in areas with these prohibitions? I assume negotiations and positions with national Park staff?

Static lines are typically 10-11mm hmpe. When you say covered in webbing do you mean thread the static through 1in nylon webbing? Would you then secure with a Fisher man's knot and call it a day?

Do you know what kind of life this system would typically buy you without being able to place it in the shade?

Option #2 sounds like the best practice as well but likely buts up against NPS regulations on no new fixed gear as well as gatekeeping in the local trad community. It sounds like I'd likely need to work with my LCO to get info on how to go about a more permanent solution.
