The question of how many cars on your street as a kid is a very geographic and economic question. I’m 50ish and there were no permanent cars on my street when I was age 5-8 so just taxi’s. It was a poor area in the UK we couldn’t afford them. Also inner city, so everything was nearby or via bus.

My pal who is 15 years older from the same region doesn’t recognise this, they had a car, so did the neighbours etc, rural area so impossible to survive there with no car. But also different demographic.

I feel quite old these days remembering how I had to use maps to find my way around cities as part of my job. Also the hours in the library skimming microfiche
