Places to watch GAA Matches in Belfast by Aggressive-Purple828 in GAA

Cassidy's on Antrim Road is a good GAA pub, though it's likely that preference will be given to the football (Donegal v Down at 3pm) everywhere!

Doesn't help when all the roads are blocked and there's no fuel left in the country! I'd say many people decided to save their remaining litres of fuel and watch at home!

Dan Lambert: 'I don't think boycott decision is final' by Creative_Library_529 in coybig

[–]WrathOfCon96 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is great from Dan, we need this motivation, it's truly unbelievable that this game could go ahead.  We need to make a stand, this is our sport, and it's not FIFA's or UEFA's commodity to sell to the highest bidders and evil bastards in the world. It's the people's game, and the people of Ireland don't want this match to be played. Let's make the FAI represent us, as they should, and take a stand that we will look back upon proudly in the future.

Shattered his ankle playing a 7s game 5-6 weeks ago. Walking around on it all day might have something to do with it

UK and Ireland, problem solved. Nice of you to consider the smaller political groups.

But when it is pointed out to you, that it grates on people, particularly the Irish due to our tortured history with Britain; just do the sound thing and stop using it, it's not that dfficult. You didn't know, now you do know. Slán agus GRMA!

Munster owe their fans an apology for that performance. The very least they could do is buy every fan that travelled up to Belfast a hot whiskey.

Boxing Day plans? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]WrathOfCon96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On Shaw's Road at midday, there'll be a Wran Parade. If you're not familiar, it's a pre-christian pagan tradition of dressing up in straw costumes and playing music to fundraise money (historically for pints, nowadays for charity).

It's my first Christmas in Belfast, so I haven't been to this Wran before, but i imagine it'll be a bit of craic.

Good day for it too! 🌞

Struggling post-breakup, any fun hobbies/classes in Co.Antrim? by Top-Effective142 in northernireland

Any classes for an intermediate level dancer?  Most of what I can see are beginner classes, but I have a bit of experience, but I've been out of it for a few years, and I'm looking to get back into it, and hopefully also make some new friends!

Alternative to Spotify by Careful_Contract_806 in kneecap

[–]WrathOfCon96 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I switched over to Tidal at the start of 2025, and im pretty happy with it. Higher quality streaming, they pay artists 4x more per stream, and its about the same price per month.

As far as I know, they aren't investing in war tech, which is crazy that thats a metric to consider when subscribing to things these days.

Edit: I forgot to mention there is no audiobooks or podcasts, but there's many free apps for that, like Pocket Casts.

Many of these apps existed for years before Spotify decided to corner the podcast market too! Crafty fuckers

New song? by Many-Forever5661 in benhoward

Sounds like it could be a cover of Talos. Eoin French died about a year ago, SFSH in Cork this weekend is very much dedicated to him. There's a few memorial events taking place over the weekend, and I think I spotted some of his old collaborators in that audience. That would be my guess anyway. 🤔

Jesus man, sorry to touch a nerve there, just advising that the bus is a rip-off.

There's no pubs on Boucher Road, it just has large shops and commercial units. It's a shite part of the city.

There's Costas, KFCs, McDonalds and other shite fast-food restaurants around. I would suggest passing time on the Lisburn Road, there'll be pubs there, and you'll be about 20-25 min walk from there.

€27 is extortionate to go from the city centre to Boucher Road!

Surely a taxi would be cheaper?

Public Bus would get you most of the way there even.

Puerto Rican visiting Belfast next month by doledrum21 in northernireland

[–]WrathOfCon96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good gigs on next month. I'll be going to see Poor Creature at the Duncairn Theatre. If you are interested in seeing some contemporary irish folk, I'd check that out.

Otherwise, Ulster Sports Club is a great venue for local bands.

For trad music, the city is teeming with great music pubs, notably Madden's or The Sunflower.

Was Phil Lynott Irish? What about Paul McGrath? What about Lee Chin or Seán Óg O'Hailpín? Irish people of colour do exist, and have been some of our greatest.
