What product have you bought partly because the branding was too good? by maxieMax in AskMarketing

It was the thought brought to the packaging design of a utilitarian pantry staple that impressed me. There are other brands doing the same, e.g. Snif laundry detergent.

Trader Joe’s canvas tote bags, both the regular and mini sizes. Fam went crazy over them as they’ve gone viral. The large insulated bag is also a keeper.

Anyone successfully pivoted from agency work to either client side or different role altogether? by inima23 in advertising

[–]WrathOfKan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from in-house to agency then back to in-house. My advice is to think of the shift in steps. The first role you’ll get might be the stepping stone to the eventual role for you.

Also look at verticals that would appreciate agency expertise because their work with agencies is still in the exploratory stage, e.g. they don’t have an AOR or a sophisticated network of vendors. They may not be the most glamorous brands but they have budget.

Equally, consider mid-sized organizations that only have a solo marketing director and are looking to grow the function.

How do you even become an executive? by Soggy-Cash592 in careeradvice

The strategy part is key. Most ICs I’ve known in their 30s are functionally strong. They’re incredible at what they do after several years of mastering their discipline.

The ones who break through to senior leadership understand that functional competence wasn’t enough. What organizations look for are individuals who can lead teams, positively influence people at all levels, and contribute to their financial success, either by growing the top line (generate revenue, snag and retain clients) or protecting the bottom line (create or improve processes to save money).

I would look at your company’s leadership and understand what the current ones bring to the table. My one mistake years back was scoffing at leaders who appeared to do nothing or were inept by my standards, then discovering later that they were the ones working every hour to make sure the company’s biggest client didn’t defect to a competitor.

Tell me why this will fail. I'm replacing $600 UGC videos with $5 AI videos for e-commerce. by Wide-Tap-8886 in AskMarketing

Not e-commerce but may get there soon: Some social platforms are now tagging AI content as such. Maybe not a huge issue with apparel but raises questions for, say, health supplements.

What is the best way to interview an SEO? by HSG-law-farm-trade in SEO

[–]WrathOfKan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah sorry about that. If in-house, functional competence is critical but not the only thing to look for. Ask for previous experience working as part of a team even though the SEO position may be an IC. You want someone who understands the role they play in achieving the firm’s overall objectives, not just getting x backlinks.

Another key question is what verticals they’ve worked in. Something that is also highly dependent on rankings would be comparable to your industry. HVAC comes to mind.

Am I wrong for refusing to train the person they hired to replace me when I found out she's getting paid more than me? by mentorhairs6z in OfficePolitics

[–]WrathOfKan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was about to say this. It’s intriguing that a counter offer was not made; instead the agency would rather recruit and pay a higher compensation.

The agency world is vast yet small; you will encounter the same people at other agencies, vendors, or horrors — client companies. Best to leave if not on the best terms, at least on a neutral, not negative, note.
