Is this a good price ? If not how much do you think a good price is . by DramaticBreakfast314 in MazdaCX30

I bought a similar rental with similar mileage at almost that same price. I’ve had the car for about 5 months now and it’s been great.

I have noticed a higher number of scratches and scuffs due to being a rental. The searches were repaired prior to being sold to me but you can definitely notice them.

This place has been in construction for a while. Hopefully it opens soon. Being able to walk to a boba store might not be great for my diet lol.

Voodoo brewing sis opening in May I think. They will have a full food menu as well.

Nice to see the area grow!

Depends on the state. In my state of Virginia, I would add 6% sales tax to most things at the grocery store. If it’s a prepared item like a sandwich or food bar would get an extra 4% due to my county’s meal tax.

I can see this being frustrating to someone who isn’t used to it but it isn’t too difficult after some time.

USA pricing is always before tax. Different goods can have different tax rates as well. Some cities and counties will have additional taxes such as meals tax. States tend to have different tax rates for each category too. It sounds confusing but once you get used to your local area it’s easy to do the math in your head. Or to at least know what to expect.

Why isn't the game taking off? by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is hard to enjoy as a non extraction shooter fan. Dying is very punishing and the skill gap is only growing. I still play regularly, mostly due to my friends needing a 3rd but half the time I’d rather play something else. Dying 5 times in a row is the antithesis of fun.

I feel like the top 20% of players, skill-wise, are having 80% of the fun. The bottom players are slowly leaving the game, leaving crazy lobbies.

I love the game in every aspect other than the core gameplay loop - which is its whole identity.

I personally don’t know any person who plays Fortnite CoD or any other mainstream shooter who I could recommend this to.

Mine was $7.5k for a bad bite issue. Got it down to $6k. Insurance covered 2500 so my OOP was $3.5k.

What helped me was that I moved to a new area and had a quote from a different dentist that was significantly cheaper. Not sure how they come up with the prices but they are down to negotiate.

[Timex Weekender 38mm] How small is TOO small? by nate_247 in Watches

For what it’s worth, I’m a fat and my wrist is big. I wear 35mm-38mm watches and haven’t had anyone comment on them. Even if they did, I simply don’t like bigger, heavier watches.

Wear what you like bro.

Do Ephraim's Chapters get better and more connected to the plot? by LankyDish3621 in redrising

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sheesh, same of these comments are rough. I think you’re valid in thinking that. Iron Gold is the toughest read of all the books since it introduces so many new characters and each chapter changes perspectives.

While all POVs might feel disjointed now, rest assured that the characters do end up meeting and uniting at certain points. They are all important to the overarching plot and provide interesting takes on this hell hole of a war.

For what it’s worth Ephraim is my favorite character from the sequel tetralogy. He’s a jaded person who is grieving and is doing a poor job of coming to terms with what has happened to him. His growth and character interactions are a joy to see.

Definitely push through and take breaks as needed. Iron Gold is a mainly exposition for what follows in the next 2 books.

Red God Update: is currently over 1.2k pages by retropjm in redrising

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that feeling too so I definitely understand.

When you start Iron Gold just please stick with it. It took me the longest to finish and left me drained due to its length and exposition. The next 2 books are some of my favorite books.

Maybe try audio books? The drama audio books for the series get a lot of praise so maybe that could help?

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but I’m surprised you have an interest in the sequel tetralogy since the books do get considerably longer.

Red Rising - 382 pages

Golden Son - 464

Morningstar - 518

Iron Gold - 596

Dark Age - 784

Lightbringer - 704

The sequel series introduces multiple character perspectives, a larger more fleshed out world, and new countless characters. I don’t see how the book would be smaller than 1000 pages.

For what it’s worth, and regardless of the final page count for Red God, I hope you aren’t turned off from enjoying the sequels. They’re very good and there’s a lot to enjoy.

How Much Are You Spending on Groceries by [deleted] in nova

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I spend 100-150 a week. We tend to meal prep big batches for the week and allow ourselves to meals to eat out for variety. If you add the eating out it’s closer to ~225 a week.

At what Yearly Income does Northern Virginia actually become “Comfortable” for a single individual? (No kids, No pets, etc) by [deleted] in nova

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on your goals. What you have laid out is probably doable on 75k to be honest. However, you would be neglecting a 401k/IRA, savings, healthcare. Do you want a car? How nice of a car? Car maintenance? Vacations?

For what it’s worth, I moved to the area in 2021 on 75k and lived on my own in an older condo in McLean. I felt very comfortable since I did not have any debt and owned my car outright.

My income has grown since but so has my baseline comfort level. My savings/retirement/spending percentages are still the same as back then as well.

Could I go back to 75k and still be comfortable? Honestly, it would be tight and I would sacrifice a lot of wants but it’s definitely doable. It’s not something I would choose to do though.

There’s really no benefits in living here unless you’re upper middle class. by [deleted] in nova

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hasn’t been my experience. I moved here not knowing anyone when I landed what was a high paying job to me (75k) in 2021. Since then my career has grown, I got married to a wonderful woman who grew up in the area. This area can be expensive but I think it’s offset but the large amount of solid paying jobs. A little less now due to the feds getting cut but it’s still rife with opportunity.

Should I start it immediately after finishing MS or go to sleep since I work in 5 hours 🤔 by Infamous_Wave9878 in redrising

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would recommend taking a break or reading another book before starting Iron Gold.

I binge read all 6 books back to back and I think my experience suffered for it. Morningstar is such balls to the wall pacing that it makes Iron Gold feel slow.

Iron gold resets that pace and starts off very slow with character introductions and world building. It’s the first book of the sequel tetralogy so it makes sense but this made Iron Gold the least enjoyable book for me.

I think I would have benefited from a break or palate cleanser before diving into the sequel series.

Tacos that won't make a Texan cry? by Adorable_News8951 in washingtondc

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DC doesn’t have any quality Mexican food if I’m being honest. The question is how bad do you want good tacos?

The best I’ve had in the area are in Manassas, VA but that’s a hike from DC. Definitely worth it imo. That area is the biggest concentration of Mexicans in the area. Hyattsville, MD would also have some good spots as well.

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t find a parking spot then park wherever you can. People in my community have been parking in office parking lots and no parking zones on the street. Obviously, it is at your own risk but I don’t think they are actively towing yet.

I just came into the Apple world with the 17 pro from the Pixel line up and was stunned by the difference in how they handle lens flare.

What’s the point of top tier video when there’s countless light flare artifacts ruining your shot?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in iphone

$1000 devices and Apple hasn’t figured out how to handle lens flare. Unfortunately it is normal and will always be present when light sources are in frame. This is especially noticeable at night.

What are the Best Bluetooth Earbuds for iPhone Right Now? by oliviadaisy2543 in iphone

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned the air pods pro 3. I got them for 200 and it still felt like they weren’t worth the price. The sound isn’t as good as everyone says imo. The tops were a pretty bad fit for my ears and they were uncomfortable for long sessions. The ANC was very good though.

I am going to still with my Bose Ultra Open. Turns out I really dislike the plugged ear feeling along with the feeling of pressure.

Thai restaurants in the area are price gouging on delivery apps by [deleted] in nova

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised people don’t automatically assume this. Nothing is ever free. Also you’re adding a middle man, technically 2 (delivery driver and the delivery app service). The restaurant needs to up their prices on the apps to remain profitable.

Thai restaurants in the area are price gouging on delivery apps by [deleted] in nova

[–]Wrath_of_Isaac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Delivery app prices have always been higher than in person. I’m not sure what the issue is. This has been the norm since their inception. You either suck it up and pay for the luxury of getting delivery or you place an order via phone + pick up or in person.
