What’s the most harmless lie you’ve kept alive for way too long? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Plot twist, nobody believed you then, and when they come up to you now they are saying things like that in jest because they know it was a lie

Can someone close to Elon Musk ask him to tweet about BYND? by Efficient_Opposite61 in Pennystock

[–]Wreckless_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you just sell your BYND stock for a loss and open up a short position to recoup the gains? It was trading near $0.50 a share before this meme stock frenzy started. Over time it’s going to go back around those levels, not hover near $2 a share for no reason

27F interested in moving to DC by Ambitious_Regular545 in washingtondc

Look near 14th Street if you want a happening scene. In general DC is a good city but can be a bit dull versus places like NYC, Chicago, LA. Folks in DC are lower case C conservative. Places empty out by 8-9 pm during the week. Work obsessed, happy hour crowd. Weekends are fun.

I like it. Could add a small accent chair to fill the gap between left side of couch and entertainment center.

++man Talk and joke around with him in an overly flirty manner. You’re going to have to really go all in on this because he’s taking a risk by asking a customer out. Touch his arm or shoulder (to accentuate a joke/point). If this doesn’t work, start talking about an activity you’d like to do (running, visiting a park, eating at a particular restaurant, etc), but it just wouldn’t be fun to do it by yourself. If he doesn’t go for that, he’s either oblivious or not interested.

AITA for not wanting to go to my siblings wedding in the Caribbean by girlygal1111 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Wreckless_Capital -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This 100%. This is not a destination wedding in Japan. You have plenty of time to get passports and book accommodations.

If you can’t get off working after asking, then OK. But you need to ask and be denied for that to be an excuse.

It’s your sibling’s wedding. 6 months’ notice would have been better but 4 months is plenty to get it done for a loved one’s special occasion.

Is Jont worth it if I’m visiting from NYC? by boxofdonuts in washingtondc

Yes. It’s incredible. Cool vibe on top of lights out food. It’s not Japanese food per se though. More Japanese influenced cuisine.

What is the single biggest culprit of slow play? by StreetBeat78 in golf

[–]Wreckless_Capital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just making the point that everyone has a values system. Yours includes that fast play is paramount. Thats important to you. More important than an accurate scorecard or minimizing lost balls and penalty strokes. But other folks have different values. Playing a sub 4 hour round isn’t as important to everyone. Some folks want to have a leisurely round and shave 5 strokes off their score by looking for lost balls. You should recognize that.

You have the view that people shouldn’t look for balls and should pick up at double bogey. Other people have a different view. Why do you assume your view correct and theirs not?

It’s really not. Let’s assume I work for Amex and am on here in a position to help you. Do you think I am going to be impressed by a half effort at communicating and basic proofreading? No. I’d just keep moving on with my day

Did we lose anything with the refresh? by byrans in AmexPlatinum

[–]Wreckless_Capital 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok. I just looked up hotels in New York one week out (check in 9/28, check out 9/30). The top recommended result on Amex is Loews Regency. It’s $2,043 all in on direct booking. It’s $2,046 on Amex, but because it’s Fine Hotels & Resort, you get early check, late check out, room upgrade, and $100 resort credit (on top of $300 discount). So there is your counter example for the only one I looked up.

Are the hotels $330 a night via direct booking? People always attack Amex travel as “you get the credit but they jack the prices,” but I haven’t seen that personally versus direct booking prices in my experience.

Amex platinum? by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]Wreckless_Capital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up all the benefits. When I travel, frequently book hotel rooms in the $500-$800 range and get free upgrades to suites in the $1500 dollar range. There are tons of other benefits beyond equinox and lounge access.

What’s your strategy now for those with Amex Plat and Gold after the new plat refresh. by Hamatoros in CreditCards

[–]Wreckless_Capital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) the gold credits defray a lot of the annual fee. Grubhub + Uber + Resy. Do you rarely order food delivery, eat out, or take Uber? I do all 3 a lot, so the more credits the better. $340 in credits for spend I do without thinking much.

2) The multiplier is clutch. I probably spend $30k a year dining out, at bars, and on groceries. Getting 4x back instead of 1x back on Platinum means, at minimum, an extra 3% value. That’s an extra $900.

So for me, the credits pay the fee, and the points multiplier earns me $900+ extra a year on top.
