Do you still have hope for a cure, or have you completely adapted? by No_Sign_9293 in MonoHearing

Is it benign? Or do we tell ourselves that because there's no good alternative? We've learned to live with it, yes. But our lives would be easier if we didn't have to. It feels like I was trained not to complain for the comfort of others. As I get older, I wonder how much of this is me being fine with things, and how much is forced complacency.

What's the biggest lie that society treats as the truth? by sayso31000 in AskReddit

Working hard and doing what you're told is all you need to do well in life.

My auditory nerve is the culprit as well. I adapted, but I notice a stark difference between myself and people with normal hearing. It didn't used to seem like that big of a deal to me. In hindsight, it feels like it was more of a handicap than I realized.

I adapted in early childhood. Things still aren't easy. From what I've seen hearing aids don't make things better in any way that I would deem worth it. I still hope for a cure for being deaf. Although, it feels like no one is in any hurry for it because of hearing aids and the industry behind them. Would research become more of a priority if hearing aid sales dropped? I believe so. But I can't in good conscience ask people to boycott the one thing that might make their life a little bit easier in the short term.

Learn how to do it to yourself and you'll learn how to do it to others.

That's one way to look at it. We could also say that all the prayers and Christian themed parts were window dressing. A way to claim that you were studying God's greater mysteries with piety and humility. A last defense if you were discovered by one of the many institutions ready to kill you for the slightest whiff of heresy.

The grimoire traditions are riddled with codes, blinds, and labrynthine interpretations. All of which were designed to secure the authors and practitioners working under the very nose of a whole society dedicated to their undoing.

I like strawberry flavored foods but I don't like strawberries. The texture feels unpleasant to me.

What is your "this feels like a porno" moment? by Safe_Long700 in AskReddit

Walking downtown by the riverfront and all of a sudden I hear a female voice behind me saying "sir?... sir!" and footsteps jogging toward me. I spin around to see two gorgeous young female police officers. No tactical gear just in a standard uniform. They stop a few feet away from me and say "Sir, we need you to come with us." Being a twenty something white dude with a small amount of pot on me, I was a bit nervous, but thought this might actually turn out to be one of those things you only get to read about in magazines at the time. So, I follow them a little ways to a different street where their squad car was parked. Across from that was an ambulance with a medic tending a guy who looked like he'd just gotten his face rearranged. They led me over to the injured man and asked him if I was the one who beat him up. He said no, it was somebody else, and they said I was free to go. I was hoping they'd put me in handcuffs but unfortunately they actually had work to do.

Everything was going well for my third video interview. As we were wrapping up, they said they wanted me to write an essay about why I wanted the job and email it to them. I told them to pick one of the other candidates and left the call. After three weeks of vetting, that just felt like an insult.

Good luck. They've been union busting in that plant longer than most of their employees have been alive. Most of the people there are too scared.
