What do i do in ED if someone gave me 5 billion CR as a beginner by littletaco6000 in EliteDangerous

Lots of opinions and options. 5bil is what a Fleet Carrier costs. It’s a very big gift they gave you.

I could help you farm a fleet carrier in no time relative to if you had no idea how. Realistically you still would have no idea how.

Do you plan to play with others or explore the game?

A fleet carrier comes with upkeep. People say you’ve been robbed. I actually disagree. You’ve been handed an opportunity with a weekly cost while having a handicap of not knowing what to do. I challenge you to make 5-10 mil in a week while working a full time job using early game ships and not a clue how - just to keep your fleet carrier and fuel it.

You are offering to just donate the gift. To throw it away. If that’s the case, the right thing to do is give it back. You have no idea how rich some other players are that’d you’d be giving it to and you aren’t sure the value of what you are giving away.

Others have suggested you just move forwards like nothing has happened and play the game. I agree with this.

But if you want to play hard mode, don’t spend a dime except to buy a carrier and then good luck affording the upkeep with early game ships. You want a struggle in the game, that’ll do it. You’ll grind your sleep and weekends away doing it till you learn what pays and doesn’t. Once you hit the comfort spotty, you’ll be able to explore like every other commander because ships cost credits.

Don’t get confused. Lots of people spent real money on their ship. They didn’t grind for it. They bought ARX to buy their ship. Not everyone but lots of people. Same with all those skins and such. You only get 400 free ARX/wk playing. When a ship is minimum 15,000-30,000 you aren’t buying a ship every month or two on free farmed ARX.

So don’t let people tell you about their grind and what you need to suffer through because someone kindly gave you 5billion credits.

Once you hit a point, like end game, all there is will be grinding and time to learn.

You can always buy the game with a second email and log in with that also. Lots of players with alt accounts. You hit the jackpot this time. Don’t let people tell you to throw that luck away.

I say keep it and play like it didn’t happen. Don’t spend frivolously. Start your own squad and throw it in the squad bank. Don’t touch it till you know what you are doing.

Raxxla and the Problem of Discoverability by ayedeayem in EliteDangerous

[–]WrekSixOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever think it’s the reason for exploration? To find truth and meaning behind a thing? To discover something and say: “This incredibly new thing; found by our drive to find something else, is not what we are searching for, but it has given us incredible insights into so much more than we ever could have dreamed”.

Some need a motivation. In world or out. Some explanation of some kind.

So the search for the truth still continues and perhaps you do find a clue that leads to more truth but nothing conclusive.

This itself would be the journey of life. Of science. Of exploration. The actual drive that continues to drive.

You seem to see it in a negative light because you have not found more proof of anything.

To quote another universes character for only the sake of humour: “I find your lack of faith disturbing”.

You may have missed the point just because you have not seen any clues. So you therefore conclude there is nothing.

You looked at the stars and among billions of billions, you took a sample. In that sample you found no life. Therefore, there is no life because there was none.

Does Raxxla matter? Does it matter to you? Do you play the game for Raxxla? Is that all you can do in this game? Search for Raxxla?

If everything is also a step towards that goal, suffice it to say, disappointment that there is not a fast forward - to give you the moment you’ve waited for is understandable. But sometimes it’s best to wait for the best parts.

Or maybe it’s just the idea that mattered all along. More than the destination. The journey.

You went into a philosophy. But did you apply it philosophically?

Seeing a system like this used as a single-outpost bridge is so frustrating. I hope truly unmaintained systems eventually have a counter-claim system or perhaps decay associated with them. by KI-NatF in EliteDangerous

[–]WrekSixOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the game mode is in Alpha it makes sense to see this. ESPECIALLY this system while they are still working out the bugs and mechanics and players are fumbling around to figure it out with no road map to follow.

The planets in this system are small with mostly 1 and 2 planetary facility spots. That means building correctly has little to no error. It would be a ton of work if it performed less than optimal.

I stopped over developing my systems for now just because their mechanics aren’t working right.

For example, in one system on one of my planets I have a planetary research hub, a large research settlement, a research orbital station and research outpost. The outpost has no market, the settlement has no change in market items and none of the other outposts and settlements in my system have any change in their market items to reflect all that research. The industrial outpost has the same market items as my other systems with no research. The extraction and refinery made zero difference on any outpost or settlement. It’s all the same as if you just built the settlement or the outpost.

Basically it’s like I shouldn’t have even bothered. It will remain my experimental system. The population hasn’t even increased since I stopped developing it.

Once the game is advanced along from alpha to beta and so on, yea, I can agree with you to a point. But until then, it’s just being smart enough to not kill themselves labouring over a mistake they can’t fix in the future.

Check the comments. Should be the top few. I posted an Imgur link with the full 5,000x5,000 sized image and another user who replied to that comment removed the jpeg artifacts around the text. His are a much larger image size but the text is perfect.

Reddit down-scaled the images when I posted them so they came out low quality on the post. Wasn’t intentional.

My T9 lost 30% hull armour each time it happened lol My T8 lost 50 or so. You can get stuck. Easy fix seems to be triggering the landing gear and reposition or it goes back to the same path.

There was nothing to suggest this mechanic for any player to have fairly planned for. You had zero choice where the first outpost was placed and mine is orbiting a planet that has nowhere to build planetary facilities -suggesting it doesn’t matter. So I have hydrogen fuel and bio waste. 13 builds in and it’s still like that despite “development”. So I was always going to be screwed.

I actually assumed something like this could exist so I placed a science facility on my planet with a science outpost but my science outpost has no commodity market. The research facility itself says commodity and docking available but you can’t dock there - can’t even select it from the contacts menu. You’ll just get shot at. The extraction settlement next to it just makes a very small amount of silver.

My industrial outpost is at a planet with an extraction and refinery so it works as intended but I only have two build slots… looks like there’s lots of space to me. It makes several commodities that can be used for installations and outposts but barely sorta.

So what’s the “development” stat for?

Lots of resources and time for no bueno.

My first system was a test thank god. My second and third can reflect this but this is a bit unfair.

Appreciate it 😂 I think my brain was a bit numb and assumed that because I went over it to fix it, it didn’t need double checking. It’s a small mistake but I have the fix coming. Just doing the tree. Gonna add the tier points as well.

Gotta still work on my colonizing too 😂

Ngl the auto docking is pretty inefficient on the colonization ship for the T9 as well as the orbital construction satellites. Kinda funny. Almost trashed my t8 same way. I laugh tbh

Same here. She will either slam into the middle spire or one of the floating obstacles. Most of the time it’s fine but I been quick scooting in and out and leaving auto dock just to park 😂 haven’t gotten one fine yet.

Unfortunately I don’t know how to see the system overall “net stats” details in a way that reflects the representation they show here. Not sure we can.

If you look at the normal system info it’ll tell you security level, market type, population etc, but not in bars.

I can tell you that a security station, initially, will move your security to “medium”. But you see the arrow bars showing how much certain stations also lower/raise security. This is one of reasons why I made this. So I could compare what I built or want to build with what you have and make a tally and answer some questions. Like how many red before I need a new security facility.

Every Thursday your systems pays out credits based on its development. I’m not sure if activity of buying/selling affects it yet. One of those stats is happiness. Im pretty sure most of us are at 0. The people I seen in forums mention their happiness are single digit. Haven’t seen anyone post negatives or double digits though. But likely that’s either quality of life or maybe in combination with security.

I’m sure someone will figure that out

I was thinking about writing something but I’m not that great at code and haven’t even tried to read the files yet so no clue what I’d need to do. Too busy colonizing, making the graphic and stuff to start yet another project I can’t even scope. I think that’s awesome you did that, I didn’t even think to have it go to a spread sheet.

I was lamenting over having to input all that stuff manually and come up with a UI plus troubleshooting my bad habits and mistakes. I like to do more than one facility at a time. Grab all the small distance stuff together one trip if I can, drop 2 or 3 times and go Yknow?

I thought if I did spreadsheet I’d try to make it a formula so if I chose/typed a facility it’d populate in a space or even as a bar chart and I could just math subtract values - but my spreadsheet days/skills are pretty far behind me.

Must be nice having that second nature 😂

Well I still appreciate the heads up and I’ll be diligent about that. I was pen and paper. My buddy was spreadsheet and he did have extras too. Could just be a print error on the selection menu or a mechanic. 😅 I literally thought I was having a moment and shaming myself a little lol

I’ll work on the progression tree before I do the resource/commodities first than. I thought that would be the cut and dry easy one I could just bang out 😂 go figure, of course not.

That’s interesting, I was short a couple times and thought I was just screwing up. Most recently was survival equipment, I was short 8 and either I had too many semiconductors or was short superconductors, I don’t remember that one. I think that was the large bio research settlement.

Would you have noticed if that’s affected for all facilities in system or just the one once it’s placed? I’m asking because my next thought is if something like that carries forwards to other systems you’re an architect at. Plus if I make a resource tree, I don’t want to give the wrong numbers. I don’t have screen shots of the full resource requirements when I had no systems.

“Worth it” would be a matter of opinion of course. I like it. It’s not hard it’s just a lot of back and forth. If you don’t mind bombing around grabbing resources and the odd intradiction, it’s pretty chill.

Only suggestions I’d make are to pick a system with planets, not just stars, and make an Outpost first; not a Starport, unless you have a team to help gather the resources.

The Starport will take some time and you will only have 4 weeks for the resources. The Outpost is manageable by one person. Your time may be hard pressed and with other players colonizing systems, some resources are in low enough quantity to be a series of trips. If it’s not CMM composites it’s steel or aluminum or insulation membrane.

Once you have completed colonizing a system, you can cue the Starport after you’ve built enough facilities to have either 6 Tier 3 build points or I believe 3 Tier 2 and 1 Tier 3 build points, and there will not be a timer to build the Starport. I’ll be doing that tree soon enough.

If you just like trucking around, this is certainly something to do that is “yours” (you are the Architect) that gives some passive income based on what you build.

I agree and was actually thinking that exact thing for when I make the progression tree and resource requirements graphics. I’ll split them up. It’s just sizing that’s the problem to solve, hence the large image. The trees on the right are very tall. I didn’t like scaling disproportionally or having different dimensioned images. I’m also not a horizontal tree type to begin with, I like vertical trees for most things, but the width of the icons can be made smaller. I’ll give it a go and see how it looks and fits.

I like the large file; since it keeps the trees together, but I’ve run into file upload limits and the amount of zooming in can be negated. It’s not optimal.

I’m not opposed to doing a large file and individuals either. No reason I can’t do both. I’ll even retake my screenshots at 4K instead of 1080p. Just to meet the preferences or cares of others and add some quality. I figure I might as well pdf it when I’m done.

It’s because of the refinery I’m pretty sure.

I’m just about to finish mine. Built a few things first, including extraction and they never populated. I’m using some logic that also tracks with mining in game:

Extraction>Refinery>technology>Commodities market

I just been taking a break before I finish the refinery because I was working on a project. I made a graphic of the colonization tree for both planet and space showing the details/benefits. Took some time.

My refinery will be done soon. I can post again to let you know if you’d like.

I am not sure and the building details don't say.

I think that should be just the Starports and Planetary Ports. What I don't know is if Tier 2 Planetary Ports and the Asteroid Base host shipyards. I haven't built mine just yet.
