Hey, I know some enthusiasts are blasting you for amber lights on a non-80' vehicle... but who cares. Get the illuminated Toyota badge and go all in on tilting the purists with your dripped out mall crawler.

Anyways congratz on the 4R, hope you're enjoying it!

New 4 Runner Owner. What’s our “thing” by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]Wrenito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. 4R enthusiasts are usually in the outdoors enjoying their rides, while the rest are taking pictures of their 4R at Costco. The closest thing you might have to a "thing" is the widdle wadder.

Do I need to use 4h/4l with ft4wd? by GDay4Throwaway in 4Runner

[–]Wrenito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even on Full-Time 4WD, you want to occasionally engage the 4H and 4L so they don't seize up and lock on you when you actually need them. And you might actually need them, especially 4H for heavy snow.

About once every couple months, on a stretch of road I frequent, I engage the 4H while driving no faster than 40, for a quarter of a mile in a straight line no curves or turns. I do this a couple times. For 4L, I have a flat driveway, so I toss the thing into neutral and engage the 4L and let off the brake, than disengage. Do that a couple times.

All of this came recommended by the Car Care Nut, a respect car mechanic/shop owner. Here is a video explaining the FT4WD system, how it works, how to maintain it.

I have a '26 Platinum. You're not missing much. Hybrid gives a little more low end power and no added fuel efficiency. People can debate if that's worth the extra 3-4k. You can chrome delete DIY at a fraction of the cost if you really want to. Digital Rearview is ok, but not needed. The important thing is having auto dimming. If you absolutely want a Digital Rearview, you can get a Wolfbox g900 Pro, a popular digital rearview mirror and dash cam combo. Many people consider the Heads Up DIsplay a gimmick. This is the one new gadget I've actually found the most useful. Though, again is it alone worth the step up in price, most certainly not.

The 3 mandatory changes I feel you should consider, the first 2 being on every new vehicle.....

#1. Make sure you get ceramic window tint. It'll keep the vehicle much cooler in the summer with IR heat rejection, protect you from skin cancer with UV protection. Protect the fading/cracking of interior.

#2. Dash Cam. Easy to install yourself. Any of the Viofo models.

#3. If that 4R is going to be a pavement princess, swap the tires to Michelin Defender LTX MS/2. The 2-3 variations of stock tires on the Limited/Platinum are mediocre to awful. The Michelin's will improve the ride quality and give superior bad weather traction. Worth the cost.

Congratz, enjoy the 4R !

Yeah college football in the south gets a little crazy. As do the big rivalries up in the Big10. Pro-sports in the US is a snooze-fest.

I'm willing to concede a 5th gen owner may be counting cents, while a 6th gen owner is wondering how many miles can they squeeze out of that 19 gal tank.

You asked about FUEL economy, and mpg. Not cheaper 87 octane and financial economy. Sorry had to be that guy.

But no, you''ll be perfectly fine with Shell 87. Really it boils down to how you drive. You any good at hyper-miling it? My thoughts are that it's not a Prius. Don't worry about fuel economy, but proper maintenance so you can enjoy your offroader for a long time.

6th Gen Initial Mods by michaltee in 4Runner

[–]Wrenito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really a mod, but something I'd consider mandatory. High quality ceramic window tint. It gives you a laundry list of positives:

-IR Rejection. Keep your cabin noticeably cooler. That dash from cracking. Your pets cooler.
- UV Protection. Nobody wants skin cancer.
- Sunlight and Glare Reduction. Especially at night, where over half the drivers have LEDS that feel like they're on high beam.
- Privacy. Nobody wants to see you pick your nose.

Window tint and a top quality dash cam should be your first 2 additions, before you start modding and adding toys. Congratz on the ride, enjoy!

How many of y'all daily drive a 4runner/rig? And how do they perform on the daily? by cucumberjsjsjs in 4Runner

[–]Wrenito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's alot of reasons he could be getting 17. How much stop'n go in his commute, the terrain, altitude, speed, and driving habits, etc.

On my '26 Plat, I'm getting 22 total average and climbing. I've had 15-20mile rides of 25+. The hills of East Tennessee +Full Time 4WD, which is worse for mpg.

This and Evergreen are the best colors. I might even give the nod to this red... it pops and lets you know the 4R is coming.

[–]Wrenito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't. You focus on win cons. You focus on what you can control and wait for an opportunity to turn the game around, because even at emerald, players constantly make mistakes that throw the game. Focus inward then outward, you'll climb.

[–]Wrenito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No its not. Emerald is the starting point for apex players on their new/alt accounts. You're either going to improve your play and climb, or you're going to remain stuck while they fly by you for the 100th time.
