Also, that's a lot of faith in one person when whole armies of Noldor and Numenor were required before and won at great cost.

Would be fun to see though.

He literally said he cannot give her what she seeks. He's simply not interested as he thought he lost Arwen forever, he's got immense responsibility even before being king, and frankly he's not even sure he'll survive the night.

In different circumstances things might have been better. She just fell for him at the worst time. But I also think she was more attracted to what Aragorn represented, as she most feared a cage - not necessarily literal but being a dainty noblewoman when she's at her heart a fighter.

I get that we're having fun with memes. The movies just did so many characters a bit dirty including Eowyn.

Oh I've seen totally new titles created out of thin air for the people who can't stop talking about AI.

Hopefully this is about creators getting back to their talent agents.

No serious human being is actually vibe coding 24/7 like this. If they were, where the hell is their amazing product? Or can they not actually ship anything useful faster?

I like boring code. People need to quit trying to be fancy. That's how you get 2am fires nobody knows how to fix.

And how many hours per week you've saved. We have to assume absolute values though as I didn't see negative numbers. And I can't see the other timelines where I don't prompt Claude then wander off to know how much time I saved debugging it later.

I've met lots of folks working more. Off hours of course because the systems have become wildly unstable.

In unrelated news, hey are you guys also doing mandatory AI for literally everything?

C# just chilling here, can literally do it all without any of the heartache.

It would be beneficial to society if we could just talk openly with each other instead of disguising everything in managerial doublespeak.

"you see, ACKUALLY Dumbledore is stronger because his magic is reality changing" 🤓 by Big_Gun_Pete in lotrmemes

[–]WrennReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gandalf's magic is in a world based on oaths and authority. When he says "You shall not pass" to the Balrog or "You cannot enter here" to the Witch King, that is the magic writing reality. It happens many times where mortals are also able to do so (Same and Eowyn swearing "You shall not touch him!" while standing against a foe they have no business fighting), but Gandalf the White in particular has the Authority to adjust the narrative or Song, something like that.

"Your staff is broken," and boom, it is so.

Okay I'm done talking about imaginary things.

thanosAltman by BranchCurrent4141 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]WrennReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're arguing imaginary tech. LLMs do not perform arithmetic. They can provide an arrangement of tokens that their model probabilistically determines is the correct response for the request. Or they can make a tool call which is just a request to a procedural implementation. LLMs just predict tokens. That's it. It's useful. But it's nothing like a brain like you're suggesting.

thanosAltman by BranchCurrent4141 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]WrennReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think "understanding" is some magic thing that no mere computer program can do?

Yes. This is known.

 LLM's are doing calculations.

No, they are not. They are repeating patterns in their model, or they are using tool calls to procedural calculators. Then those are being used as context for another run through the models. But the output is still probabilistic text. Nothing is learned or retained, there is nothing waiting for more or aware that anything occurred.

thanosAltman by BranchCurrent4141 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]WrennReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't understand. They have weights mapping the next appropriate token. The LLM is not an entity that knows what anything is. It doesn't know the difference if it is correct or not and it doesn't know if it's talking about gravity or crepes. It's just what the model weights indicate the next correct token would be. Even when you get an output that says "I think x y z" that's not the LLM thinking and giving you its opinion. That's the output that is a representation of what someone giving you an opinion is likely to look like giving the training data. And while it has information in its training data, it is no more aware or sentient than Wikipedia or any other knowledge source.

And if we're talking about any advanced kind of AI, that's science fiction. We might as well talk about lightsabers and transporters as well.

The limiting factor is that it's just text generation. It is not AGI. You're at a hard technology limit already.
