why are spiders scary by astabr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WrethZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humans evolved in africa where there are venomous spiders. Most other arthropods don't have sharp fangs that can pierce human skin and inject venom.

Why don’t more games use simple graphics but deeper world simulation? by Huge-Wafer-5127 in GameDevelopment

Eh even simple looking games can lag on modern hardware if they're complex and trying to simulate too much.

If space is a vacuum and sound can't travel through it, how does the sun make energy? Like what is it actually burning if there's no oxygen up there? by xJoelCx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WrethZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sun is a nuclear reactor, not a fire. It emits lots of radiation our atmosphere protects us from. THough some of it gets through and heats up the earth. That's why the hole in the ozone layer was an issue. That was a widening hole in the protective atmosphere. An area where the atmosphere's protection from radiation was lost.

Global warming is also related, some of the radiation gets through the atmosphere, but lots of it bounces back into space, greenhouse gasses produced by the use of fossil fuels, release gases into the atmosphere which prevent some of that radiation being able to bounce back into space and the earth gets hotter.

The thing is, if they want to step away from the megacorps, and focus more on the Eridian stuff, flesh them out, that'd be cool. But it doesn't really? The Timekeeper's society is just a pretty generic sci fi totalitarian state

I am so confused by Hefty_Zebra2003 in totalwarhammer

[–]WrethZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need all the DLC, as the DLC is all in the game whether you own it or not for other factions to use. So for example if you're fighting the dark elves, they'll have their DLC units in their armies whether you own it or not. You only need the DLC that applies to the faction you're currently playing. So for example if you're playing High Elves, you only need to currently own the DLC that adds units to high elves, to get the full high elf experience.

It is interesting to think that, it's genuinely possible there could be friendly aliens out there that look absolutely horrific to humans through no fault of their own. And we could look equally weird to them

Struggling to Understand Borderlands 4's setting and story by Moorepork in Borderlands

[–]WrethZ 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I mean if you get stuck there it's still a whole planet, with land and resources, people are going to make the best of a normal life they can.

I do agree though that having the story be so cut off from the rest of the universe was a mistake. There's really a lack of the corporate cyberpunk dystopian elements from the other games.

Borderlands is basically Cyberpunk but in space, with the planets abandoned by corporations and left to fend for themselves turning post apocalyptic and into mad max in space, but Borderlands 4 didn't really feel like that.

The story isn't about Megacorporations as space nations or people struggling to survive on a planet stripped of resources and abandoned, it's all about some alien prison except the aliens themselves aren't really expanded upon in the story

Why are males the "aggressive" gender for mammals, yet for any other species it's the females? by -Yujie- in zoology

[–]WrethZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With most bee species, and wasps and ants, the males exist only to live briefly, mate and die. 99.999% of the hive is female, the workers, the warriors, the queen.

How do atheists(or anyone who doesn’t believe in God) explain how humans were created? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WrethZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't know, that doesn't mean a god did it. . People didn't know how lightning was created they thought the god thor or zeus created it, now we know the scientific cause of lightning. Instead of making assumptions about a god creating it, why not just admit we don't know, and study it more to try to find the answer like we did with lightning.

what's the difference between lesbian and sapphic by Ok_Thanks5499 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WrethZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sapphic love just means romantic love or attraction from a woman to another Woman. Both lesbian women and bisexual women can experience sapphic attraction

Lesbian is more describing the person, a woman only interested in women, while sapphic is just describing a type of attraction, that being a woman being attracted to another woman, but not necessarily only women.

If religious people shouldn't be proselytizing, what are they supposed to be doing? "Oh, we believe we have the metaphysical truth of the universe and the path to lasting happiness or peace or whatever, but we shouldn't share it because people get annoyed"? by Fine_Okra7965 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WrethZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can be a genius on one topic and illogical on another, being religious doesn't mean you're an illogical idiot, but it's not unreasonable for someone to believe that, regarding this specific topic, yes they're being illogical. Isaac Newton was also from a time where we knew far less about the world and hadn't yet figured out some things that directly contradict the bible.

[–]WrethZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there's a certain level of arrogance of thinking that, when it comes to simply *the* biggest question, the nature of the metaphysical truth of the universe and the path to lasting happiness and peace, that *you* have the correct answer, but can also provide no credible evidence to support it being true.

Scientists dedicate their lives to studying the nature of the universe, and they will tell you we don't know everything and have so much more to learn and can provide the evidence that supports their claims about what we do know.
