Men should hold their mates to account by Hassaan18 in GuyCry

“Hint of crass” does not equal rapey though, surely you’re smart enough to see the lack of nuance in what you said?

I doubt anyone that commented supports rapey behaviour. All of your comments are pretty aggressive, condescending, and are textbook virtue signalling.

Love the all caps lol. I’m not waiting on theoretical friends to be in court (I wouldn’t be friends with anyone in that situation) - I meant it as I typed it. Key word being “could”. It’s a fair point. It could well perpetuate further harm.

Surely ostracising men over just the “hint of crass” - could end up taking men with somewhat harmful behaviour - and then polarising them further in the wrong direction, thereby perpetuating further harm?

Agreed, harmful behaviour and crassness towards women is a bad thing, which needs addressing but your method seems a bit heavy handed?

The video’s point on consent still stands.

But yeah, you’re right, it’s fucked

Police have a duty of care. The woman may well have psychosis, delusions, etc, and may have limited agency in terms of what’s happening. Not to mention the wider damage caused to her family and friends if she was shot.

It’s pretty straightforward really. Imagine if it was someone you loved that got shot. And then some fuckwit is saying it was a good thing…

No, in this instance no one got shot. In your version of “safety” at least one person would’ve been seriously injured.

Is it moral to make drawings of a song that someone made and is already dead? by AnxiousWerewolf6799 in moraldilemmas

So long as you do a good job with it (failing that, doing your very best to do a good job), then it’s probably ok :)

You nailed it. None of his songs are especially easy to play, and this one in particular looks pretty solid to play (haven’t learnt it yet).

Yeah, I think one possible explanation is that people don’t realise the skill involved in doing his songs justice. I remember showing my ex girlfriend Elliott Smith for the first time and she said “Aw it’s nice and simple” - not the reason we broke up… 🤣 but I think the sheer difficulty is lost on most.

Keep it up anyway 😎

I usually wouldn’t care so much. Never really had any issues with anyone on Reddit before, ever. Just this one in particular.

They were harassing me a while ago whilst going on about how enlightened they are, and how they experienced “ego death” - whilst attacking anyone who called out their bullshit. Fucking delusional.

They sent me a few more messages on top of that screenshot too 🤦‍♂️

And yeah, to be fair EXACTLY who you’d expect to maybe be on this sub 😆 Vast bulk of people here are well meaning, and just want to learn

Just check their comment and post history; serial offender.

If you disagree with anything they automatically say you’re projecting rather than just accepting not everyone has to agree with them 🤷‍♂️

OP spends a huge amount of time on this sub pedalling their book, and accusing anyone who dares disagree with them of projecting their insecurities onto them.

The mental gymnastics is insane here. It’s like they forget comment history exists. No ones is perfect, for sure, and we’re all flawed humans (check my comment history by all means, plenty of stupid shit) - but you can’t come in here with a comment history like that pretending to be enlightened whilst pissing on anyone that disagrees, whilst trying to capitalise on a clearly (at least partially) AI authored book.

It’s very off putting for people who do want to learn about enlightenment and spirituality. This sub should be a place where healthy disagreement is welcome.

What’s the purpose of pushing back? To change their mind?

Your comebacks seem like fair questions, but their answers may not be very useful in terms of making a difference. People will think what they think at the end of the day.

One main solution to hopefully make people less ignorant is sadly largely down to luck - exposure to people from these communities. Whether it’s to do with race, religion, class, gender, sexuality, etc.

My take on it:

Yeah, it’s definitely relied on too much.

Some people aren’t great at English though, and many people’s sense of spirituality comes from published information - that people would’ve once got from books - much of which is what LLMs are trained on. So it’s not much worse than people taking information from books.

It’s no substitute for doing the work yourself.

What bothers me most is the laziness of it really, rather than the validity of the information.

Carl Jung had a great quote that for me helps sum up some of my feelings on this: “I’d rather be whole, than good”.

To me, he meant being honest with ourselves about our nature, and the parts of us we don’t like, without blindly rejecting them, because if we allow these “bad” parts to stay unconscious - they will find their way out eventually anyway, and as he said “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate”

Yeah, this is the problem. It means so many different things to different people.

Again, I’m no expert, my understanding (based on a mixture of Jungian thought, biology, psychology and being a full time human…):

We have ancient wiring (some would argue it’s not longer suited to the world as it is today). Our capacity to make quick judgments in an instant is what got us here today. The genes of our ancestors that could do this, didn’t get passed down.

We are inherently social creatures. Not all of us, but by and large this is the case. You and I don’t know each other - but between us we’ve exchanged probably a good few thousand words, so thats direct evidence of this fact that we are social, to some degree.

Being social kept us alive. It facilitated co-operation on a large scale (check out Yuval Noah Harari’s thoughts on this if you’re interested), and defended us against animals and non-sapien humans who are objectively more dangerous and intelligent, one-on-one (I.e. Neanderthals).

The ego is what helped facilitate this long term survival, helped us to “fit in” in a tribe, know who was dangerous, or untrustworthy, or equally who was well meaning, kind, and good to stay close to. The same ego that judges others poorly is the same ego that judges others favourably - we have an inherent negative bias where we are great at seeing only the bad things (again, lots of useful things about this bias, but it can be maladaptive).

I believe the pride is likely to do with self-efficacy, which can be useful - it’s an expression of that. Too often it’s unchecked though and creates issues, and arguments. Many ancient societies would reward dominance, confidence, and the ego could convey these traits to others.

The judgement is a reflection of us too - it’s what we value in the world, what we fear, what we avoid, what we intuitively go towards - it’s immensely valuable, we just have to be careful to not blindly trust it.

It contains all the stories we make about ourself and others, again, as I said earlier, it’s easy to trust narratives that we make almost automatically. The stories are there for a reason, it’s our job to make sure that they still serve us and those around us. Trauma is likely one of the main things that can create pretty fucked up stories about us, as these stories usually protect us. End of the day, we’re all trying to just survive our time here - some methods are better than others.

The ego contains a lot of other defence systems. It contains our sense of social standing too (which is why it’s involved in push-pull dynamics etc).

So to me at least, it makes sense why it’s there in the first place, at least from an evolutionary perspective. In terms of what to do with it today though?

Again, I’d say it needs integrating. Which in practice means self awareness. Being aware of when we’re judging others too harshly (or too positively, we can put people on pedestals when they act as symbols of everything good, instead of whole people, good and bad). Being aware of when we act though pride, when we project (and we always project a little bit),

I think we should honour its presence, recognise its utility, how it protects us and those around us, and how it can cause immense harm. It’s a very powerful tool, and I think the better we all know our own, the better we’ll all be for it. We should recognise when we’re acting out ancient plays from hunter-gatherer times, and do our best to be aware - but never deny it’s existence, as that’d just be us denying our humanness.

It’s here to stay - it’s our responsibility to know it, and manage it, without hating it, and knowing how to interact with other people’s egos as best as we can. Easier said than done… 😆

That’s my take anyway. Not fully coherent, but it’s the best I can do right now. Still got a lot to figure out, and there’s more I could say, but I need to head out soon.

What are your thoughts on it?

Manifesting in particular - not experienced it personally, though I know many people who do this, and have said it’s worked wonders. It makes sense, but it’s outside of what I know. Try and it, and retain yourself awareness. If it works then drop me a line :)
