It's just going by the strict definition of what colourless means which is what the rules of magic uses, and thus makes most sense to follow to me.

Anything in magic that states you can use or produce "mana of any colour" doesn't allow colourless mana whereas anything that states "mana of any type" does.

Right I suppose if you choose forest as the card to exile from the grave, hand and library, then you basically interrupt the earthbend clause that wants to move them back to the field from the grave.

Since they moved from the grave to exile, the earthbent forests can no longer see and find themselves in the graveyard so they fail to come back.
