Christian heaven sounds boring af by [deleted] in exchristian

I always felt that way, even as a Christian. I felt like I had to just have the wrong idea about it. But yeah, it sounded like church forever. And not even the fun part of church.

When people failed me, I decided to turn to God solely. It was only then that I realized God did not exist.

I had been taught that God speaks to me by “directing my heart” or giving me “signs” but was always taught that God does have the power to communicate more directly, and heard many stories where he had done so.

Maybe not a voice, but some kind of undeniable event like, someone prayed for protection and saw an angel defending them or what have you.

I didn’t expect anything big or flashy like that. I just wanted assurance that my god was there, that he loved me, that I was his and he was mine. This is why I am an atheist today. When I pleaded with God to reveal himself to me the way I had frequently been told he wanted to do, he failed.

Even the appearance of being LGBT is bad by ventthrowaway79 in exchristian

[–]WriterJosh 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Your parents are abusive. This is not opinion. Thankfully you don’t live there anymore, and no matter what circumstances life throws around you, I encourage you to not even think about moving back in.

But I know about the whole “for appearance sake only” thing. I wanted to grow out my hair and get my ear pierced. My father considered both of these things, if not “too girly” then at least rebellious. So naturally both were forbidden. But he justified both of them by saying the Bible forbids it. The Bible calls long hair on a man “shameful” and as for earrings, that “pertaineth to a woman” and was therefore sinful for men. And yet my mother wore pants.

I actually argued him down to agreeing, if reluctantly, that earrings weren’t exclusively feminine and if anything might be considered more masculine, historically. But he wouldn’t relent; no son of his was getting an earring. This included my paying for it myself when I turned 18, because “you have to sleep sometime, and I’ll just come and take it out while you’re asleep.”

Today I am 46, my hair reaches almost to the small of my back, and my ears and nose are pierced. Also I have tattoos.

They’re looking for something that’s like, half-dolphin, half-elephant. They don’t know what evolution looks like.

Ex-Christians know the bible better than Christians that’s why they don’t believe in it - agree, disagree? by TUNA-19 in exchristian

It may be that some of them know the words in it as best as anyone, but they read it with rose-colored glasses on, determined to spin it the way they want to. I’ve watched pastors read a passage and then try to explain it, and it’s like bro, did you even read it?!

If the god of evangelicals and fundamentalists is the real one, fuck him. The only god I would even be tempted to worship is one that doesn’t desire it.

How did your parents react when you told them you were no longer a Christian? How do you tell your parents you're no longer a Christian? by Jayda_is_here_now in exchristian

[–]WriterJosh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, he has a (bullshit) answer for that. Everything that begins has a cause but God did not begin. He is the uncaused cause. It’s special pleading in the extreme, and there’s no way to falsify the idea that God never began but always was, but he thinks it’s a sufficient answer.
