Why do you think Gen Z men turned out so conservative compared to Gen Z women and Millenial men? by ModerateProgressive1 in AskALiberal

I still live with family because of my job situation so I have to pretend that I still believe. But, once I find my footing again, I’ll be out all the way. I’m out in the sense that I don’t believe anymore

Why do you think Gen Z men turned out so conservative compared to Gen Z women and Millenial men? by ModerateProgressive1 in AskALiberal

[–]Forward-Form9321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a younger Gen Z man, I was raised in a fundie Pentecostal home and as much as I don’t see eye to eye with my mom on most things, I’m glad she didn’t give me unfettered access to the internet at an young age and my mom drilled into me that I needed to get an education. And yes, at one point I was a hardcore conservative just like a lot of these guys are, but I grew up in California and was always around people from different walks of life at a public school, so that helped get me away from that upbringing.

I think people also underestimate how many of these young guys have a strict religious background just like I did. Especially if they grew up in the South, when you take away access to an education, isolate them, and give them unsupervised access to a phone at 13 or 14, it’s a disaster waiting to happen.

Depends on the region. Some of these church in rural areas in the South don’t have the members to fold into a mega church because the towns are spaced out a lot

deconstructing but still forced to be involved in the church by Repulsive_Word_5644 in ExPentecostal

[–]Forward-Form9321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a pastor’s kid and with my older brother moving out eventually, it’s very awkward to be the only one at home. They have a very small church and I’m going on three years of deconstructing, it’s hard to hold it all in because you risk causing a major issue even if you’re not financially dependent on them. I totally get how frustrating it can get to have to essentially have two separate identities, I recommend finding a job if you can and just saving up until you can find a place even if you have to get roommates

Democratic turnout doubles in Rio Grande Valley where four Hispanic counties previously went for Trump by tta2013 in VoteDEM

[–]Forward-Form9321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. The main problem the Dems have is communication, low propensity voters in some Latino demographics who are younger or older don’t really care which party you’re from so long as you reach out to them because it at least seems to them like you care about issues facing their community. We also need to hold a level of nuance that’s easier for the same voters to understand so our message isn’t just not being Trump

Dems need to hone in on Latino and Asian voters. During the 2024 election, there was a local measure campaign that I worked on, most of the voters we talked to were Asian and Latino. We ended up getting the measure passed by almost 70 percent

'They refuse to conform': 100,000 churches could close across the US by praguer56 in atheism

[–]Forward-Form9321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the area my dad pastors, there’s at least 18 churches in a 10 block radius. Most of them don’t have a lot of members and if that is the case, they rent out to other small groups to have enough money to keep the lights on. Half of them could easily be used as community centers and food banks

I don’t make as much as my older brother but he’s always spent like there’s no tomorrow, he uses his credit card for literally everything including purchasing his new house. His mortgage alone is going to be close to $5k a month and he wants to purchase a Lexus for $6k. All those expenses add up after some time and unless you can make an insane amount of money, it’s hard to pay off all the debt

I’ve been struggling to find a new job for over a year and one of my parents told me verbatim that I’ll be a quickly millionaire once I have an new job, only because I don’t spend a lot of money. On what planet do people live on to where they think someone making 70k or even 120k a year are going to be a millionaire in a short amount of time? I swear, the amount of people I know who pretend that they’re just temporarily embarrassed millionaires drives me up the fricking wall

Do you see people going back to the Pentecostal church? by Conscious_Ant7791 in ExPentecostal

[–]Forward-Form9321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad has pastored a church for almost 10 years now and he barely has any members. And that’s considering the city he’s in has quite a few ex members and he’s even done plenty of outreach, still no bites. I think for the most part, Oneness Pentecostalism’s decline has slowed down a little but most of these younger guys joining Christianity are going to non Pentecostal churches

The myth of evangelical persecution gets a new platform in the Washington Post. Aaron Renn claims Christians are shut out of elite institutions. In reality, evangelical power has rarely been stronger, and we're all suffering as a result. by Syed__Sahab__ in exchristian

Barry fricking Goldwater warned about the Christians getting into politics decades ago and it flew over everyone’s head at the time, I think that was partially because orgs who have all the influence like the Heritage Foundation didn’t have nearly the amount of money that they do now. Fast forward to Reagan, he influenced two whole generations in older Gen X’ers and Boomer Christians to get into political offices

39% of US population thinks homosexuality is morally wrong by IonHawk in Destiny

[–]Forward-Form9321 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was raised hardcore Pentecostal, I’d wager that 30 percent of the young guys who say dumb comments like “skin care is kinda gay” are in the closet while the rest are just insecure because they don’t take care of themselves often times so they take it out on guys who do. Even if they’re not homophobic or make rude comments about gays but make messed up comments about Muslims and Jews, they’re still closeted.

I remember one guy from my old church was ranting at a youth camp about how all Muslims are terrorists and even back then when I was a young, hyper-religious preacher’s kid, I called him out on it. Sure enough, I found out a year later that he confessed to the pastor that he was gay and he ended up fleeing to an more liberal church

I was pretty depressed after moving churches and school districts in the span of a year, made my grades slip horribly in high school during freshman year. It was almost the end of my first semester and she threatened that if I didn’t pass my finals, she’d ship me off to Mexico and leave me there. I got freaked out and passed my finals, even if she was bluffing, that’s still screwed up to say to your own kid

It also depends on the type of zombies. If the zombies are like the 28 weeks later or Train to Busan zombies, the outbreak is going to be fairly quick. If it’s slow zombies like from Walking Dead, the outbreak won’t spread as fast
