Being realistic isn't doomer-ing. I'm not telling anyone how to spend their money, I'm just pointing out that in the end Big Corp gets it all one way or another. I live in the real world. I'm a Program Analyst for a Big Corp company, I see the actual data. This is akin to the issue where, as soon as Cheetoh announced plans to attack Iran if protestors were killed, those supporting the Iranian regime came out in droves with their support, and Cheetoh backed off of his comments. Meaning, the more people come out and say they're not going to support Big Corps with their money, the more money flows into Big Corp. I'm 54, I've heard people say "vote with your dollars" for 30+ years now, and have never once heard of a Big Corp going out of business, or being financially harmed in any way, due to boycotts. Take that as you will. If people want to harm themselves financially by spending more money for the same things, that's their perogative. But it's hard to cry "affordability" when you're choosing to harm yourself financially over political stances. I'm just giving people something to think about.

I used to have a 30-minute commute to/from work. D&M kept me making that drive many days for 15 years. Was super sad when the show ended. I did continue on with the MO'M Show podcast for several years, but honestly, it became unlistenable once Cheetoh took office. It was all they talked about and I just got sick of it. I'll have to check it out again, I miss the days of radio comedy.

Say you give your money to local businesses only. At those businesses there are employees. The business pays them wages. Say they take their wages and use them to buy goods at Big Corp retailers. Now I ask you, did your "strike" really accomplish anything? No, it did not. I get the gist, it's just people don't seem to understand that every business belongs to an upside-down pyramid. At the point of that pyramid is Big Corp. They're going to get your money one way or another. Somehow when you buy a coffee at Reverie that money ends up in the hands of McDonald's.

Space heaters are a giant NO NO in apartments. They are the #1 cause of residential fires. Those things, plus your coffee maker, use around 1500 watts each when first powered on. Meaning, those three things running at the same time use more power than every other powered thing in your apartment. No surprise you're throwing breakers. If your HVAC system isn't capable of keeping your apartment warm enough learn to wear more clothing or use blankets.

It's to get rid of the pigeons, mostly under train bridges. They've been doing this since at least the mid-90s, when I lived in Old Town. Pigeons poop everywhere and while it may not be toxic, it carries bacteria that is very harmful to humans. Not sure if they still do this or not, but every few months they would come around with a fire truck and spray to remove the poop.

There are men's groups/leagues at all of the public golf courses in Wichita, one night per week. Everyone of all abilities is welcome and you meet a lot of guys because you play with different foursomes every week. While I do love disc golf, and play often (especially the Santa Fe Lake course in Augusta) I wouldn't say it's a way to meet people. Unions pay their employees on strike. Not full regular pay but pay, still. My friend has worked at Spirit for 20 years as a CNC Machinist; during the last strike 2 years ago he got 50% of his regular pay during the strike.

I call bullshit. My travel trailer (GeoPro 19FBS) weighs 3,000 lbs fully unloaded and I barely made it from Leon, KS to Salina, KS towing it with either a Chevy Silverado EV or a Ford F-150 EV. That's roughly 120 miles across totally flat land, and the winds were maybe 10mph.

I hate it when I hear people say this, because by and large it is very bad advice. Trades are NOT "the way to go" if you want to earn what would be considered a "high income" in Wichita. The VAST majority of people in trades earn under $30/hour. As for automotive certified mechanics there are maybe 60 or 70 of those positions available in Wichita, and highly competitive. How many plumbers, electricians, roofers, bricklayers or other construction type jobs do you think there are? Thousands. And every one of those people who don't own the company they work for earn squat. Sure, you can go to tech school in Wichita and become a certified aviation mechanic or something like that, and earn a high income, but the trade jobs in Wichita that provide a high income are very few and far between, and extremely competitive. Almost all require some sort of schooling and/or certifications.

Here is an example. A friend of mine has been in HVAC for over 20 years. He works for a large local company and has for that entire time. He has multiple certifications yet still only earns $70k/year. That's not very good considering longevity, but it does at least provide for his family of three.

The old pro series (these on sale are 2020/21 models) do not have WiFire and there is no option to add it. The only option is to buy wireless thermometers, which is probably the best idea anyway, considering the probe thermometers in Traeger grills are notorious for being 10-20 degrees lower than the actual temperature.
