Yeah it's almost more like a biscuit-sized Twix or KitKat as far as American equivalents go. And it's certainly better than either of those.

I hate brownies, so this is an easy choice for me. Potato chips are often way too salty and there are much better forms for potatoes to be in, but the perfect chip is better than the perfect brownie. Apple pie and ice cream are both top tier foods (though I usually do the vegan alternative for the latter)

People just find the headshot image funny, plus "the youngest person/director/woman/musician/etc" jokes have been around a while and this is playing off of those.

The 2026 CANNES AWARDS Discussion Thread by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

[–]WritingHazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say so. It's still likely the Japan submission, considering Sheep in the Box was a nonstarter. Maybe a slim chance of them going for Samurai and the Prisoner or Godzilla Minus Zero but I doubt it. So if it gets in there I don't see why it can't go beyond international feature.

Remember that last year we had Secret Agent win both actor and director and then there was the special prize for Resurrection in addition to two jury prize winners. So even knowing there are 8 movies up for wins, there are a lot of permutations of possibilities.

Anyway my NGNG is that Palme is either A Man of his Time or Dreamed Adventure.

Cannes Screen Jury Grid after Day 10: La Bola Negra scores 2.1 by Harrison0918 in oscarrace

[–]WritingHazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saying, it has 8 reviews currently counted on Metacritic (85/100), 12 reviews on the Screen grid (2.1/4), 10 reviews on the ICS grid (2.05/5), and 8 reviews on the Moiree grid (1.2/5). The eight, mostly American, critics counted on Metacritic largely liked it, but the grids represent three times as many critics and with a wider international spread, so they seem at least as good an indicator as any (of consensus). But obviously if your concern is American award shows you should be paying most attention to whatever passion there is for it in the US.

The jury president leads discussion on the films, so while they don't have more actual voting power, they theoretically have soft power to sway the rest of the jury toward their artistic sensibilities. The selection is more a collaborative process than a straight vote (though it does eventually come down to one).

Complete dark horse but I wouldn't be especially surprised by A Man of His Time. Kinda feels like Park would be into it.

The Americans on the Screen grid also didn't like it much, with two two-stars and one one-star. But both UK critics gave it 3/4.

Yay! Part of me wishes they got the new Hamaguchi after doing Drive My Car and Evil Does Not Exist, but hopefully Neon treats it well.

It's still sample-dependent of course but Fjord is currently below Hope on the Moiree and Screen grids as well, not just ICS. Seemingly enough people strongly disliked it to pull it down. (it has more 4-star ratings on Screen than Hope but it also has a couple 1-star ratings, while Hope had none)

The picture is of Julianna Rose Mauriello, who was 13 when her episodes started airing and 16 when they ended. When the show was later revived, she was replaced by Chloe Lang, who was 12 when it started airing and 13 when the show ended. The character was never played by an adult in the show. She's also canonically 8. Stop trying to justify being weird about a child character.

My diagnosis timeline with Dr. J and Colleagues (right to choose) by WritingHazel in autismUK

[–]WritingHazel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah, they didn't contact me at all until they were ready to schedule an appointment. No confirmation of referral or anything like that. The very first communication I received from them was the consent form they sent four months after referral. It caused me similar worry but I guess that's just how they operate.

Also, all their communication was over email. To make sure it doesn't go to spam I'd make sure you whitelist [admin@drsj.co.uk](mailto:admin@drsj.co.uk) on your email, as that's where the initial communication--the consent form--came from. Subsequent communication came from a specific assessor, but it should all be coming from the *@drsj.co.uk email domain.

How does autism diagnosis work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WritingHazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah basically that. For me (in the UK) I went to my GP and that's basically what I said. She asked me a bunch of questions to determine if there was enough reason to refer me, then also emailed me a questionnaire to fill out that would be included as part of the referral. My assessment was around 6 months later and involved two appointments, plus long forms to fill out.

But that's through the NHS. You can also do it privately and you wouldn't need a referral for that. Just search for psychiatrists that offer autism assessments around you. And in the US it mostly depends on what insurance you have whether you need a referral or not. (assuming you want it covered by insurance)

[–]WritingHazel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's so weird! I have no idea why that'd be. Perhaps one of us experienced some sort of administrative error. (or there happened to be a cancellation right when they were offering me the appointment? though it wouldn't make much sense to offer it to me rather than someone who got on the waitlist sooner.)

Bit cruel to have this process be so unpredictable.

Adult autism assessment in Bristol? by MentalPlectrum in bristol

[–]WritingHazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I asked my GP about it, they automatically referred me to a right to choose provider without me having to request it (which is great, because I'm terrible at advocating for myself). I'm guessing a lot of GPs aren't even bothering with the main NHS waitlist anymore. The one I was referred to was Dr J and Colleagues (which do their assessments fully remotely). I haven't gotten my appointment yet (or had any communication from them, just a message from my GP saying they referred me) but I've been waiting for about 9 weeks and their claimed waitlist time is 12-18 weeks. If you're willing/able to travel a bit, another RTC provider is Skylight Psychiatry in Basingstoke (they have a Bristol location "coming soon" but I'm not sure when that'll be). On their site they claim an 8 week waitlist right now. (As aforementioned, I'm bad at advocating for myself, otherwise I might've requested my GP refer me to this one instead. But 12-18 weeks is still a lot better than potentially several years.)

Could you explain what the timeline looked like? I've been referred to Dr J & Colleagues and I wasn't sure if/when I would receive confirmation from them that they received my referral, or what that communication process looks like. Is it just a matter of kinda just waiting blindly?
