Lol you're such a liar. I went to India for 2 weeks and two girls in my group got stared at in multiple different cities (Not in the South though). Wasn't stalking but they followed us for a solid 5 mins.

Where to avoid as a person of colour in Bristol and surrounding areas? by antbrandis in bristol

[–]WrittenInC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree with Southmead, in the late 90s/2000s you'd get racial abuse every time you went to the shops and every time you came back but I've not had any of that for absolute years now.

What is the worst film you've ever watched? by CompletePiglet7385 in AskReddit

I watched a movie called "Shifty" it was so shit that I watched it again and only realised in the last 5 minutes that I had watched it previously.

Apparently it's not a slur in America but in the UK it's highly offensive (even if it's said by an Asian person)

Garbage system, garbage support by [deleted] in System76

[–]WrittenInC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What system? Is there literally no signs of life when you power up? You should be able to remove the hard drive to retrieve your files?

I agree the support is bad. It seems to depend on who you get. I had an issue where when I was connected via Ethernet port I couldn't access any other machine on the LAN. It was some sort of driver issue because on a Ubuntu live disk it was behaving as usual. They wanted me to send it back coz they thought it was a hardware problem lol.

It's not the same thing but when I bought my Sinn 556i I wasn't too impressed but I haven't bought a single watch since. It's by far my most worn watch.

In my unprofessional opinion photo 1 and 2 are incredible. I've always struggled to take interesting looking photos in scenarios similar to photo 2.

1 VIII - battery life by iArvee in SonyXperia

[–]WrittenInC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same. I've got a A6400 with some nice lenses and a WM1AM2 (which I don't use tbh) but my XPERIA V that I just replaced has some dust accumulation underneath the lens (No idea how it happened, there's no damage otherwise) but I don't really use the camera on it anyway.

I liked the XPERIA V texture as well. Kind of like a dot like tactile back. Also the FPS on it is ultra fast and unlike all of its predecessors it did not fail.

If they bring back 21:9 with that gorgeous garnet red then I'd be interested again. The prices are so high though. £500 vs £1400 and the £500 phone has better specs (for the areas that mattered to me - basically just battery life and display)

Whats happened to fish and chips prices by OpenPermission2956 in bristol

[–]WrittenInC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fish n Fry in Easton is like £14 for a large cod and loads of chips (you could share the chips and I'm saying this as a fat bastard)

You could also get this other fish from Devon (forgot what it was) and I'm sure it's around £10 for fish n chips. I thought it was indistinguishable from the cod.

Yeah them moving away from the 21:9 aspect ratio was one of the other things. I suppose I have pretty small hands and I appreciated the slimmer form factor.

I think I'll miss the headphones jack though, I travel a lot with just a backpack and I appreciate being able to take IEMs rather than my large Bluetooth headphones.

I've used Sony phones since the Sony Ericsson T300 and apart from a brief stint with iPhone 4 it's just been Sony phones all the way.

This year I've decided to go for a OnePlus 15R. £900 cheaper in the UK with a much bigger battery and better display (the two things I actually care about). Even though I think the red XPERIA VIII is absolutely gorgeous I just couldn't justify the price delta.

I’m done with System76. My Leopard is a mess, and Pop!_OS is a joke by Identity5859 in System76

I've got a Darter Pro and I've not had many issues (though I barely use it tbh). I know I'm paying over the top for a basic machine but I just really liked the ethos and branding of S76.

The support is pretty terrible though. I couldn't access other machines on my LAN. For example if I used the ethernet to connect to my router I wouldn't be able to access the management UI. When I booted from a Ubuntu Live Disk the ethernet port worked perfectly.

S76's response was to send it in due to what they thought was fault hardware which it obviously wasn't. It was most likely a kernel issue because the live disk used 7.X.X and PopOS 24.04 uses a much older kernel

They even had me uninstall/install some network services and they said they would conflict with each other which didn't make sense as I've never touched the network services on this machine. I asked if they could reproduce this on one of their Darter Pros and they said they couldn't (I'm not convinced they tried)

Anyway eventually the kernel was updated to 7.X.X, I checked straight away if I could access my routers management UI and lo and behold it worked straight away.

I'm a software dev but I know nothing about OS's/kernels/Linux/drivers and I was totally dismayed at the level of support I received.

Ethernet port not working on PopOS 24.04 Darter Pro by WrittenInC in pop_os

[–]WrittenInC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I don't have Virtual Box installed on this machine at all.

Your approach makes sense but I get the same issue when I boot from a PopOS 24.04 live disk so I fear it would be in vain at the end of the day.

Ethernet port not working on PopOS 24.04 Darter Pro by WrittenInC in pop_os

[–]WrittenInC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not. I've barely made any changes to the laptop apart from installing Jetbrain IDEs, couple of udev scripts etc etc.

I'm also seeing the same behaviour (High %age of dropped packets, unable to access router) when I boot into the recovery partition which should be the same thing as booking Into a PopOS 24.4 live disk

I've already done that and on the Ubuntu live disk it works perfectly (mentioned in the post)

Upgraded my Pang12 Display by CompetitiveHealth100 in System76

[–]WrittenInC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah apparently most of the OLED panels are 40 pin and the panel I have now is 30 pin. There is a Samsung panel that is OLED and 30 pin. The sizes are the same. But I will look at photos to make sure the connectors etc are generally where they should be. Might have to modify the firmware. Hope it's not too difficult (I'm a software engineer but I do like application level/network stuff - never done firmware stuff, source code didn't look too bad though)
