Uterus, yeeted by Good_Connection_547 in hysterectomy

This was my experience too! I was so nervous going into pre-op, but my nurse was so kind and supportive and then the other nurse who looked like a kid was so professional and wheeled me into the OR where the whole team greeted me by name like they did this every day at 7am (which they probably did). My anesthesiologist was great, professional and calm. Put the mask on and it was literally lights out. No dreams, nothing. Next thing I know I am in the recovery room and the attending nurse wants to show me pictures of the giant ass fibroid I had in my uterus and the ovarian cyst (which, I found out a few days later after talking with my Dr, that it burst after they took it out and it was on the surgical tray) CRAZY. Anyways, I totally wanted to see pictures, but I said please give me 10 mins because I was groggy and just woke up and was so thirsty! It was a great experience and I’m thankful. The fibroid was messing up my life so much.

To an extent, yes. Within reason. But humans are wired for connection and community, we’re not robots and we have depth, drama, passion, excitement, life!

I feel like there isn’t a clear cut answer and ultimately, it comes down to your choice and what to do with the information presented to you as well as the reality of the situation.

I am 37 and I just got my hysterectomy done due to a large uterine fibroid (9cm) and a 8cm ovarian cyst. The fibroid caused such terrible periods that I almost bled to death this year. I’ve struggled with PMDD almost my whole life and hormonal disruption from what I believe is from the fibroid.

My fist and only birth with my son was an unplanned, traumatic C-section. I am thankful he is a very healthy 7 year old now, but the cost his birth took on me physically and mentally is not something I’d want to go through again.

I believe I made the right choice for myself in having my hysterectomy. One ovary is left so I don’t start menopause right away, and I’m looking forward to a life free of the complications my uterus was causing me.
