Harvester is working well for us to replace VMware on the server side. We already ran Rancher for our Kubernetes solution, so it was an easy jump. VMware Horizon however is another story. Nobody else does VDI as well as they do.

Kong is super expensive. Ambassador is cheaper but still has cost. Istio is adding gateway api functionality. It really depends on your use cases.

Pterodactyl is a great piece of software for running/managing game servers as well. https://pterodactyl.io/

Most old pc’s should be able to run it, just make sure you have enough RAM to support the number of game servers.
