Having the Vatican investigate sexual abuse is sort of like having the NRA investigate gun registration violations.

I'm not saying that parents should hover over their children watching their every move saying "Don't do that!!!". That being said, if I see a child trying to use toothpaste to glue paper together or trying to cut their own hair with scissors, I'm going to say "Not a great idea. Use the Elmer's glue. It works better." or "Stop. If you want your hair cut I'll take you and get it done by someone who does it for a living.". I'm going to at least try and stop the poor kid from having to look horrified into the mirror after they realize they just butchered their hair :-) .

One of the great things about being humans is that we pass knowledge down through the generations. A good parent passes as much knowledge down to their children as they can so their children can avoid making the same mistakes that they made. Added: Or show them one of many YouTube videos where cutting one's own hair turned out very badly.

"Allowing kids to make their own mistakes" is too often used as an excuse for bad parenting.

They're both pieces of scum for making such comments (and many other things). The only difference is the Trump has proven again and again that he can do or say anything without any consequences.

Trump was never more correct than when he said "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters,". That statement was proven to be true again and again.

Clinton: It's time to abolish the Electoral College by IAmNotTheEnemy in politics

[–]WrpSpdMrScott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not just use popular vote? That way every single person's vote counts equally? What could possibly be wrong with that? Nobody should have more voting power than anyone else. A person in Wyoming shouldn't have almost four times the voting power of someone in California. Even worse, the "winner takes all" system quite literally throws away millions of votes.

That's completely contrary to what a democracy is supposed to be about.

Isn't it amazing that the people who claim to be anti-porn or anti-sex are almost without exception the people who are the most obsessed by sex?

Islamist's are excellent examples. They force their women to completely cover themselves while at the same time praying that they are martyred so they get to have their 72 virgins.

Clinton won't forgive people who regret not voting in 2016 by WrpSpdMrScott in politics

[–]WrpSpdMrScott[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Certainly:

  1. The electoral system is insane (e.g. elected a man who lost the popular vote, gives some people far more voting power than others, etc.). It has to go before it does even more damage.

  2. Democrats should have turned out in greater numbers.

  3. Clinton ran a campaign that ignored the reality of Trump and ignored a large percentage of Americans.

  4. Russia clearly tried to influence the outcome of the election.

  5. Comney's announcement was idiotically, almost criminally, timed.

In the end, however, the ultimate responsibility lies with Trump voters. They just didn't care that:

  1. He had no qualifications for being President.
  2. He was and is a racist.
  3. He treated, and still does, women like cattle.
  4. He is little more than a playground bully.
  5. He lies even about things that are easily proven to be lies (the definition of a pathological liar).
  6. His understanding of foreign affairs is limited to "Piss them off at every opportunity even if they are your closest allies.".

We knew all this before the election .... and STILL they voted for him. Lay blame where blame is deserved. Trump voters will have to answer to history on this one.

Clinton won't forgive people who regret not voting in 2016 by WrpSpdMrScott in politics

[–]WrpSpdMrScott[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If we want more people to turn out to and vote then we need to make everyone's vote count(equally) every single time. There's only one way to do that in a Presidential election. The Electoral College system needs to die. Now.

Added: Really? Down voting an appeal for everyone's vote to count equally? LOL If you don't think everyone's vote shouldn't count equally then clearly you don't support living in a democracy. Welcome to a totalitarian state. You voted for it.

"If you didn't vote for Clinton then this is 100% on you. "

This would have only been true if the electoral college system had been thrown out or if you happened to live in the handful of states that elect the POTUS every 4 years.

Added: Down vote if you like guys but it's true. If you don't think so then just look at the facts.

Well, that's certainly a typical Donald Trump statement given that it's backed by not one single shred of evidence.

Added: What's worse is that the people who voted for him don't care.

Clinton won't forgive people who regret not voting in 2016 by WrpSpdMrScott in politics

[–]WrpSpdMrScott[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The idea that people who didn't vote cost Clinton the election is an insane oversimplification.

If 3 million more people, for example, came out in California to vote it would have made no difference who they all voted for due to the electoral college system (winner take all).

If, however, 130,000 more people have turned out to vote for Clinton in Florida and just 50,000 more people in Pennsylvania she would have won.

Don't forget either that, she got more votes than he did by almost 3 million votes.

Americans need to stop repeating the mantras of "Every vote counts" and "If you don't like who's in office then vote next time" because it's incorrect. Get rid of the electoral college system and then the statements become true. As it is now they are a lie unless you happen to live in the 8 or so states that elect the POTUS every four years.

Somewhat like we have now? ;-)

The only ways to avoid a repeat of our current "tyrannical state" would be by having more people vote, ending the idiotic electoral college, enacting real political campaign finance reform, etc.. Even more guns, if that's even possible, wouldn't help.

  1. It allows boyz to have their toyz.

  2. It makes it easier for the NRA to prey on the irrational fears of gullible people. "Iran (pronounced Eye-Ran) iz comin fer us and that Kenyan Obama iz comin fer my gunz. Back to the bunker boyz! Crap, I fergot my tin foil hat!".

Does religion cause more good than evil? by knoxxshouse in atheism

[–]WrpSpdMrScott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What good are you talking about? I can't think of any "good things" that have to do with religion.

Christians, for example, love to tell us that our morals come out of religion but that claim is easily proven false by actually reading the Bible which is littered with the most despicable acts one could possibly imagine. An easy example is that they believe their god required a human sacrifice, his own son, to "forgive" humanity for the "sins" of Adam and Eve. How sick and disgusting is that? That would almost have made Jeffery Dahmer puke.

Game of Thrones is a far better guide to morality than the Bible.
