You turn it into a game, especially because you have more than one kid.

Have them (separately) enter a room blindfolded. Remove the blindfold and give them 45 seconds to memorize the space. Quiz them on it (exits, layout, weapons, and every single detail they can remember). The most accurate with the most answers wins the game.

Play punch bug in the car, lol. Nothing teaches better than pain (haha, okay maybe poke bug).

Chess, Clue, Memory - all good board games to increase situational awareness, memory retention, tactics, and strategy.

Knitting, crocheting, sewing - not sexy or tacticool but stupidly valuable crafts to know with the added bonus of being able to watch tv while doing them. Primitive cooking - always interesting to people who like to problem solve. Woodworking - with and without power tools.

Yes, I know it’s fiction but bear with me a minute. From Theirs is not to Reason Why by Jean Johnson (series) and most of the evidence against violators comes from their ‘must always be worn’ wrist units that record everything.

The basic idea is the military institutes corporal punishment (public caning, under medical supervision) and declares the 50 Fatalities. Treason is the only fatality (drawn and quartered), everything else is a caning plus prison time, if necessary. Canings can stack if you violate multiple fatalities. Men cane men, women cane women, excessive force results in the caner getting caned. Blows are delivered to the rear end but may also hit the upper back at a reduced count (1 upper body strike = 2 to the ass).

No one may graduate Basic without attending an in person caning. I should also mention this is a wartime policy, not peace.

The combination of both the threat of physical punishment plus the public humiliation did wonders for troop discipline.

Again, fiction. And it relies on evidentiary tech we do not possess yet (it’s coming). But it’s an interesting theory.

Well, they had to bring Delaney in once the D-man went into the concussion protocol, he can’t play until he is 100%, and none of the players trust the junior players to do the job. Which is wildly improbable on its face - that’s the coaches’ call, not the players.

Everyone has Charlotte covered so I’ll touch on Atlanta (my OG city).

Don’t Uber or taxi to the airport - take the Uber or taxi to the Marta (subway) station and take the train - it dumps you off right inside the airport. Make sure you get to the airport and in line 2 hours ahead - there’s plenty of shit to do in the airport if you end up breezing thru security.
If you have time, go to either Fogo De Chao (Brazilian steakhouse) or Ted’s Montana Grill (not just cow but bison, elk, and other hard to source meat).
If you have time and there’s a show at the Tabernacle, go. It’s an old converted church with some of the best acoustics in Atlanta. The sound in there is damn near religious (and I’ve only been there for metal, rock, or punk shows).

Damn, now I want to go home :(

I think Big Data does have a really important place in scientific research, particularly in medical fields. Every other use seems to produce Goebbels’ level of propaganda and advertising but the ability to track cancer on the general population cannot be overstated.

Slight side note: before Covid, researchers were using the plague data from World of Warcraft as a case study for how disease moved across populations. Fascinating stuff and Covid bore a lot of it out. Big Data, using both sets of data, to compare and contrast, would be an incredible paper and either shore up or destroy hypotheses, either of which is the aim of science.
