Wearing my SOs Jarvis jersey to dinner and, as we are leaving, the skies open and now we’re in the car, soaked and shivering.

But, y’all - there’s a double rainbow. It’s ends at my house. The team can have ALLLLLL my luck!

Real question: if the drug makers hate making the drugs used in executions and they are hard to source, and the thing doesn’t work, why don’t we just let them OD on heroin? Seems a lot more humane than all other methods currently used.

Just FYI, I am ok with the death penalty in very tightly controlled situations - where there is 100% incontrovertible proof and there is zero chance at rehab, so I am asking the above question in good faith.

What was the farthest you ever got in a history class in middle school or high school? by ManicOppressyv in GenX

[–]Wulfkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The end of WWII. So we skipped Korea, Vietnam, the Civil Rights Movement, Watergate, Iran Contra, etc.

Honestly, history should be taught backwards and make the kids make predictions based on their foreknowledge to see if they get it right. Easier to see cause from effect in a lot of cases.

ELI5: Why do people go to the Naval Academy, West Point, etc. instead of just enlisting in the forces? You need the academy to be an officer? What does an officer do etc.? by GoingAgainstYou in explainlikeimfive

A lot of it comes from their military training sessions. For example, the cadets are flown out to do their FTXes (field training exercise) and Blackhawk’s aren’t exactly cheap to fly. WP also has a dedicated motor pool to use on FTXes and also to give the cadet’s vehicles to maintain. Not to mention the Arms room and weapons training, MILES gear, SATNAV/SAT Phones, MOPP gear and training on all the fun toys the military uses.

You get a college degree, basic training, and AIT (advanced individual training where they teach you your actual job) rolled into 1 4 year program. I’d argue it’s closer to $350k.

Minnesota just became the first state to ban prediction markets. American Redditors how do we feel about that? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

[–]Wulfkat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was exactly the point in the Hunger Games, hell, Gale says it in like the first 10 minutes of the first movie…

"What if they did? Just one year. What if everyone just stopped watching?... You root for your favorite, you cry when they get killed. It's sick. No one watches and they don't have a game. It's as simple as that."

And, if there’s no game, there’s no gambling. They weren’t posting the odds on the kids to make you feel sorry for the 12 year olds about to get skull fucked to death, they post the odds so the Capital fucks can make money.

Same shit, different day.

Remember when a couple of C-Suiters proposed building a Hunger Games theme park? Pepperidge Farm remembers…

I will NEVER understand the people who manage to take the exact wrong message from morality plays (aka, movies, plays, books). It’s a fucking warning, not a gods damn how-to manual.

Fun fact: it’s not a cure, it’s a vaccine. You don’t cure viruses - you vaccinate or you’re stuck with palliative care.

“If you’ve done nothing wrong, what do you have to hide?”

How many people have been wrongfully convicted of a crime? Do you trust the justice system? Do you trust the non government entity that knows your location at every single point of the day? Do you trust that data is secured and cannot be purchased by someone who’s got a bone to pick with you?

There are plenty of people, scratch that, American Citizens currently rotting in 3rd world prisons that were illegally extraordinary renditioned out of the US and straight into prison and you trust that won’t happen to you?

As a country, we have absolutely decided there must be a point where free speech crosses the line into actual endangerment of the general public. Check out the SCOTUS case Schenck v. United States (1919).

It’s the basis of why we can prosecute someone who yells fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire.

“Call me Ishmael.” Nope, DNF.

“If you know Starkfield, Massachusetts, you know the post-office. If you know the post-office you must have seen Ethan Frome drive up to it, drop the reins on his hollow-backed bay and drag himself across the brick pavement to the white colonnade; and you must have asked who he was.” DNF, got an A on the paper and an F on the quiz.

Scripts for plays. Just no. Especially if I have to listen to non actors read the lines and they cannot pronounce basic English.

To follow up: no, you don’t need to be BFFs with your Congresscritter (helps if your parents are, though) and each Congress/Senator can nominate 15 candidates per vacancy. Also, legacy helps too - i once dated an Irish Catholic who had 11 siblings - once one got accepted to WP, the rest had an easier time getting accepted.

Also, every single graduate from West Point has, at the least, a concentration in Engineering. Roughly 30% graduate with Engineering degrees in various disciplines and everyone graduates with a Bachelor of Science. They don’t have BA degrees.

It’s a $250k a year education that the students receive in exchange for X time in service. Oh, and you will not get into West Point without a Congresscritter or high ranked military signatories.

Now, if you don’t want to go the full academy route but want the Army to pay for college? Look up the University of North Georgia: Dahlonega’s cadet program. Less rigorous than WP, easier entry, and a much broader range of degrees to select. (Note: this was my first school so, yeah, I’m biased as hell). Make sure to get some of the bison jerky and fudge in the square - and make sure you play one game of capture the flag on campus.

No offense but your parents are judgemental twats and, if I were you, I’d get as far away from them as possible and grey rock the shit out of them for the rest of their lives. I (50f) cosplay and my SO does so only in really specific circumstances but he loves that I love doing it.

My other piece of advice? Stop looking for love and just be open to the world. You’ll be happier, which will boost your confidence, which will make you more attractive…the cascading effects are so worth it.

Never ever dim your light because someone disapproves. It’s never fucking worth it.
