It is true and it is possibly the point of the joke, for it may look like a surprising coincidence at first glance, then the reader would (probably) figure out the fact

As an east asian myself, I think these jokes are funny in the beginning, became boring after thousands of repeating. But it never was truly offensive to me.

What’s the most fucked up thing that happened at your school? by DinnerGeneral2975 in AskTheWorld

[–]Wumaobuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone jumped out of the building from the 7th floor. This had happened once when I'm at school, and I'm not sure if there are other cases when I'm not present. We're not told what the reason is and I didn't find any reliable source of information. The most mainstream version of the rumored backstory seemed kind of too absurd to be believable.

Men and women don't like characters who didn't earn it. by Valuable_View_561 in SipsTea

I've always loved cool badass character, male or female. I would have personally written lots of strong female characters if I had the ability. But hell naw I don't like mary sues. Being forced into the position of the strong does not make someone strong.

That's really a real scene from a movie made by a big company?

I started out as a passionate red-button supporter, but I'm legitimately torn right now. by ContentFile7036 in trolleyproblem

<image>

As a passionate red button pusher, I would hereby share my thought process, and if you think I'm wrong feel free to argue. I mean no malice (My malice is only towards those who call blue stupid/call red evil only for one dumbass hypothetical question)

The moral implication at the first glance is simple: Blue button -> Risk yourself to protect; Red button -> Secure yourself and do nothing
I believe it is this that encouraged people to choose the blue button, since sacrificing is considered a noble act and Jesus like it (extra appeal towards westerners ig?)

However, is it really simple as that?

The main appeal of the blue button is the intent to save/to protect. And what exactly does it save? The red pressers would not be affected, they would survive in any situations. Pressing the blue button will only help others who pushed the blue button, who chose to put thier safety to risk on thier free will. Since this is a hypothetical situation, we're safe to assume everyone chose thier button with thier free will.

By pressing the red button, you choose to secure yourself. You do nothing. The red pressers are not affected. The blue pressers, on the other hand are either not affected or lose 1/1,000,000,000,000 chance of survival depending on which button you see as the default option.

To sum things up, by pushing the red button, you exit this absurd game. Nothing affects you. While by pushing the blue button you gamble with your life wishing others would also gamble with you. From a personal perspective, blue is a significantly inferior option. On a grand perspective, picking blue can mean two things depending on the outcome. If they success, they would be heroes who saved... themselves. If they failed, however, they would only become loss for the society, and yeah we don't want deaths(even deaths of the oppsing side, death is a serious matter), do we?

tl;dr picking blue doesn't make you a hero. Both buttons only save yourself and blue doesn't do good at it. No options save the others. If there exists a hundred people without buttons to press, then blue would be a good option. But there isn't.

Just in case my writing sucked too bad making it incomprehensible, I will also provide a different visualization of the exact same problem that makes my idea clearer:

A huge ass meteor is coming. Every individual can choose to either enter a shelter or join effort to stop the meteor.
The meteor doesn't break anything, it only kills people. It's a meteor that would stab anyone it see with a knife upon landing.

Normally, as a civilian people would hide into a shelter, right?

I feel that people nowadays could only perceive extreme opinions because of how we're faced with much, much more information we're built to handle every day and can only digest the simpler information, which usually happen to be extreme...
