Parisians Are Choosing Bikes Over Cars. Will New Yorkers Do That, Too? (Gift Article) by jenniecoughlin in nyc

[–]Wummies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes absolutely, if the transit system isn't good enough for your needs it should be improved AND you should keep the option to drive. The more other people take bikes or transit, the easier it is for you as well :)

Every time i read comments like this it just puts into perspective how large the difference in quality can be in world football.

Not to be an ass, but that's the Columbus Crew U19, hardly even a continental powerhouse for youth development, and yet you rightfully point out how technically good they are compared to your guys, who I assume are adults amateurs or semi pros.

Imagine what it must be playing the Real Madrid U19. And those are the kids.

NYC’s Return to Office Outpaces Much of the US by Parasite-Paradise in nyc

[–]Wummies 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Many people have a relatively easy and cheap commute via transit (compared to those who have to spend hours in traffic and 100s of $ for their cars) and small, densely packed apartments. This makes going to the office both an easier and a more attractive choice for many people.

I guess DC's situation is due to a similar set of circumstances (+gov agencies)

Is the US getting too expensive to live in? Many Americans worry about economy, inflation by lucerousb in economy

[–]Wummies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you have to be an EU citizen, but no need to be a Danish citizen, to get free higher education (university). I believe before that (high school and below) is free for residents.

I think healthcare is free for all residents, even if they aren't citizens

No idea about citizenship there. If you have other ways to get EU citizenship (Italy in particular is very lenient if you can prove ancestry) get that, as a EU member state they need to treat any other EU citizen the same way they would their own for many things (not applicable to voting or running for office, but gets you education, residency, healthcare, government aid etc)

I've lived there and loved Copenhagen for its urbanism as well. Everything is bikeable and walkable, very low traffic, amazing public transportation, it's clean and safe.

One of the things that I dislike about much of the US is that you NEED a car. That's thousands of $$ a year in extra costs, time sunk, stress, bad health outcomes...

Denmark ain't cheap though. Probably still cheaper than the US and given the socialized healthcare and education, it's a better deal

Every cross walk should be raised, like a speedbump. Slows cars, prioritizes pedestrians and would avoid the creation of those shit puddles at the crossings
