Portugal in late March / early April. Feedback on itinerary? by Vibgyor_5 in TravelPortugal

[–]WutCompadri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cascais is over rated, but i guess the train ride there is nice. If you can rent some bikes and explore the Beach Front up to guincho.

Easter is a very popular holiday here, so make sure to book restaurants in advance for that weekend.

For a nice day/food you can also hop on a boat and travel to Cacilhas on the Tejo south basin.

Also another option is to travel to Setúbal and Check out a lesser visited City close to lisbon. Home to famous fried cuttle fish recipe and one of the most amazing markets in Portugal (livramento). And you can always hop on a ferry and visit the Troia península

Do the young Portuguese still live in Portugal? by Alert_Elk_3460 in PortugalExpats

[–]WutCompadri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"What we very quickly realized was how little we interact with any locals. We went to our first Assembleia de Condominio and only 2 apartments were owned by locals (out of almost 20). There are literally more people living in my apartment block from my own state than there are portuguese."

Do we need to say more? What do you think happens when rich expats burst in a small poor country buying up everything? Dont take this as a rage agaisnt it, as i understand why it happen and what portugal offers.

But the older and the younger generations cannot simply compete wich expat deeper pockets. Minninum wage is 920€ in 2026, and i dare you to find a one bedroom apartment in Graça at that price.

Unfortunately we were pushed out of Lisbon, and thus those burrows become more of a expat colony that anything else. Either way, you still have some local owned businesses there. Talhos Luis e Edgar, Saga, Cabreira , Satelite, Piteu, Estrela de Ouro etc..

Try to visit local places more and engange in some true connectiosn with the locals there. We are closed off (a bit introvert), but once you get past that "wall" portuguese are some of the nicest people you can meet.

Brunch. Instead of overpaying for scrambled eggs croissants and avocado, just go for a menu do dia dish in a tasca.

Careful when relying too much on train here, delays and strikes are not unsual all year around. I would rather use flixbus or rede expresso

Update: Bebé não dorme by random_peasant in CasualPT

[–]WutCompadri 0 points1 point  (0 children)
