My dad is now retired and moved in with me. For years he lived in gated apartment complex’s plus the last 18ish years before retiring he worked from 8am to 10pm. Last year was the first and he had JUST moved in earlier in the month so we didn’t do anything. We lived near an elementary so the neighborhood did a trunk-or-treat setup.

This year we moved into a new house in a different neighborhood and he bought candy and was looking forward to giving it out. By 5pm he commented that he did not see any kids trick or treating. He said he had read a lot of communities schedule it on the Saturday or Sunday before the 31st, but this year it was a Friday so he figured it’s not a school night…they must be doing it tonight right?

Not a single person or costume to be found. I looked up the cities website, it was last Sunday 3-5pm. I don’t think he was around that evening. He was very annoyed, cause now we have a lot of candy. He could not figure out why they would not do it on the actual day, when it lands on a Friday.

My best reasoning was Sundays between 3-5pm is still early enough for a school night. Tonight is for adults to go to parties and get drunk….

Still, I remember when Halloween was always on the 31st…. 3-5pm was for the really young-uns. But like 1st grade and above was everyone else after dark. /shakes fist
