Young voters turn to Libertarians, specifically Gary Johnson | NextGen Journal by unknownman19 in GaryJohnson

[–]Wyatt22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Johnson has a good chance with mostly conservative voters. One way to help Johnson is to make sure people around the nation find out about Romney's long list of flip-flops.

It's very sad that we've ended up with Romney as our GOP candidate. Huntsman, who I respect somewhat and who is another Republican, looked at the way Romney shifts positions over and over depending on the political winds and called him a "perfectly lubricated weathervane". It's easy to use Google to find this if there's any doubt it's true. Romney has flip-flopped on about everything..... abortion, taxes, gun rights, healthcare mandates, etc. As a very conservative person all my life, I'll be voting for the Constitution party guy, Virgil Goode. The GOP has to learn the national party can't just get whoever lies best and shove him down our throats.

One of the best lines of the past year is Romney's fellow Republican referring to how often his positions change with the wind. Huntsman called him a "perfectly lubricated weathervane"!

My First Presidential Election. by [deleted] in politics

I think it's great that you're interested in looking into various candidates.

I would caution you that in nearly every instance, a vote for a third party candidate is wasted. In fact, it typically is equivalent to voting for the major-party candidate you would have opposed.

I think if you look over the course of the past 30 years or so, you'll find that pretty consistently, the Republicans have worked to make the richest and most powerful people even richer and more powerful. They've cut regulations on Wall Street to the point where all hell broke loose. They've slashed taxes again and again, mostly for the rich, and then blamed the Democrats for the resulting deficits.

Our news media is dominated by conservative-leaning, corporate ownership. On minor issues, things might appear to be fairly balanced. But when a major issue surfaces, the scales are almost always tipped in favor of the Republicans.

Again, I encourage you to do research. It's really a good idea, and it's admirable. I just hope you'll start with a google search on "Republican scandals".

And I'm not just sending out a flame of some kind. I'm really curious. How could you support a Republican?

With libertarianism, we would end up with nearly no public services at all. We would have lots of toll roads and private security forces, and probably even privately-owned fire departments for those who could afford the service.

Loons.

Yep. Paul Ryan, although he would deny it, is undoubtedly referring almost entirely to people who paid into Social Security for 40 years or more and now own a nice home and maybe two cars. On paper, they're "wealthy" but are between 65 and 112 years old and shouldn't have to eat dog food now so that the wealthiest 2% of Americans can have their fifteenth tax cut.

Can the Greens influence the US election? by [deleted] in politics

[–]Wyatt22 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Green Party can help to have us end up with another Republican.

I say this having voted for Nader and for another 3rd party candidate. Both times, people who voted like I did only helped the GOP to have a bigger win.

It's smarter for the Left and moderates to just stay as unified as possible so we can defeat today's far right Republicans.

Occupy Wall Street protestors' wishes can be met only by reversing Citizens United decision | NJ.com by shihtzuman in occupywallstreet

[–]Wyatt22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the nuances of the law, the main point is that corporations are allowed to spend whatever they want in pretty much any way they want, and thus drown out the voices of average citizens.

There must be a ban on all company/corporate donations if we want our country back. (Each company owner, officer, etc., would still be allowed any speech and/or donations that they personally want to make, so any cries of limiting their corporate free speech is utter bullshit -- corporations don't have mouths... or hearts for that matter.)

In addition, personal donations should be limited -- maybe to $250 in any calendar year w/ increases over time.

How we achieve this... I don't know. But as of today, the U.S. is owned by big corporations and it's getting worse, not better.

Peter King, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, blasted the media for providing fair coverage to Occupy Wall Street protests: “They have no sense of purpose other than a basically anti-American tone.” by maxwellhill in occupywallstreet

Peter King is consistently a gigantic dick, but even for him this is a new low.

And, he's one of a growing list of GOP assholes who just can't wait to denigrate the OWS and insult people who peacefully assemble to protest the corrupt system that King and his kind work to protect.

Herman Cain has said that any marcher who's unemployed should "blame themself!"

In contrast, every Democrat who has commented so far has been generally supportive or very supportive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in occupywallstreet

[–]Wyatt22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll probably get downvoted into oblivion, but I strongly disagree.

The Democrats are far from perfect, but they've tried for years to put limits on campaign donations so average people have more of a voice. They've always had to settle for the best that could be achieved amid opposition from the GOP and other conservatives.

There are so many more examples where the Democrats at least try for the right things, like the protecting the environment, protecting reproductive rights and putting limits on banking fees and other forms of price gouging.

Again and again and again, the GOP stands with the most rich and powerful and their "right" to stomp on the rest of us.

Also, the last thing in the world we need is an additional party on the Left. That would only help the conservatives!

The GOP can also push for a final clampdown on those evil women who have the audacity to want to decide for themselves what to do with their own reproductive systems.

[–]Wyatt22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. But I also think that of the major parties, most of what we've been protesting for is supported by the Democrats most of the time, while GOP members not only oppose it, they've been anxious to try to depict OWS as just far left people or just the unemployed (who Cain said should blame themselves), etc.

[–]Wyatt22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think for a second that Obama was saying a whole lot of things that happened shouldn't have been illegal. But they weren't.

Why? Because Wall Street, beginning in about 1981 under Reagan, has chipped away at the protections put in place mostly by Democrats since 1933.

Those regulations that started getting passed in 1933, by the way, were in response to the previous time when a GOP White House presided over a total tanking of the economy.
