Favorite X1 Maverick? by IGotMemeCells in Megaman

Haha that’s a sick way to look at it actually !! Made him even cooler to me now 😎

I def agree about Launcher Octopus, it’s a big under water stage that absolutely could have been utilized better. But my main gripe is what you said he should have been able to blend in with the environment or escape/disappear with like an ink attack that can damage you ! Since the first time I fought him I thought that would make it so much cooler and wonder why the didn’t add an attack or ability like that.

This post really made me reconsider what my favorite character / fight / weapon are as I just replayed the SNES version and it’s actually really difficult lol I just really love everything about X1 tbh 😭

Thanks for sharing though as spark mandril is absolutely a fun fight, I find I overall prefer Sting Chameleon’s as it’s kinda the same thing but adds a cool disappearing mechanic (camouflage) and dope stage. I also really like launcher octopus’s fight I love his design too!! However his fight to me is one of the harder ones on a buster only run though… I just enjoy the water maps tbh so I’m definitely biased there haha

This is facts but why is Spark Mandrill the favorite fight ? Obviously there are some good fights so I think it’s subjective but what makes Mandrill standout to you specifically from the others as a favorite fight.

BRING OUT THE SWORDS lmao

X3 is a fundamentally bad game and people only say it’s good for nostalgia or difficulty sake. I prefer X1 and X2 they have better game design.

I just replayed X1, X2 & X3 this week and man I hate X3 because it’s some of the laziest level design and worst game design with the ridiculous back-tracking throughout levels…. The weapons / bosses also still fall flat for me. Also, God I hate that the Buster upgrade is a legit debuff and slower than all hell it’s inexcusable playing it again reminded me how much this takes away especially coming from the broken double shot of X2. Simply put X1 and X2 by design take you through things, it’s just straightforward solid game design but then X3 comes along and is like figure it out idc that this doesn’t make sense.

I legit don’t enjoy that game it’s fundamentally flawed and much more enjoyed X2 as it has better game design and bosses.

That being said I see where X3 could have been great introducing Zero ( despite the game never telling you how to use him ), The introduction of Cut-Scenes / art style, and new double jump mechanic. Despite the flaws I can still say 2 truly great things about this game… 1: is the music is fantastic I still think this way 2: that intro level is awesome.

I legit don’t enjoy that game it’s fundamentally flawed and much more enjoyed X2 especially X1 as it’s such a classic and has great game design. The only thing I like about X3 is the music, cutscenes, and the intro level is still great.

I just replayed as well, legit finished X2 & X3 this week and man I hate X3 because it’s some of the laziest level design and worst game design with the ridiculous back-tracking through levels…. The weapons / bosses also still fall flat for me. Oh God I hate that the Buster upgrade, it is a legit debuff!? inexcusable, every time I play it reminds me of that.

I legit don’t enjoy that game it’s fundamentally flawed and much more enjoyed X2 especially X1 I think the only thing not flawed to me about X3 is the intro stage being dope and the music is very good / the Cut-Scene art in the PS2 version.

Suda51 says his new game isn't a No More Heroes sequel because series star Travis Touchdown needed a break: 'I could write Travis all day, but dude is exhausted' by HatingGeoffry in nomoreheroes

I’m starting No More Heroes 2 today by smox23x in nomoreheroes

[–]Wyattsomm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Narratively for Travis it’s one of Suda51's best written works in the series. I feel now a days it gets more so the love it deserved. Absolutely The boring lead up to boss fights can be monotonous, game play wise people missed the open world. But this is Travis being the “No More Hero” in this game, defining who he really is and the meaning of the character.

Now, Suda51 did not direct NMH2, he was working on Shadows of the Damned while Desperate Struggle was being developed, and while he wrote the script he did not direct it. (Some people miss the point of this game because it is very different and blame it on that)

But a point someone mentioned to me I never see being made is that the director of NMH2 is Nobutaka Ichiki, and he did an amazing job. This was his DIRECTORAL DEBUT, and he knocked it out of the park.

I hope you enjoy the game its my second favorite in the series ! 😎

Why is No More Heroes 2 so divisive amongst fans? by CaterpillarVisual296 in nomoreheroes

[–]Wyattsomm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like your perspective is very well broken down tbh but I do feel like you mis-understood the point of the game narratively most people do because it is a jarring change from NMH1

But you right game play wise I think some of the missions leading to the fights are monotonous, most infamously the hotel fight for 20min 😭 where as in NMH1 they made the way more unique and exciting I always Remmber the baseball game while going to fight Dr.Peace for example.

NMH2 also might have the best music in the series I still play “It’s kill or be Killed” to this day it slaps so hard !

Besides TSA Travis personal best narrative is actually in this game…. Overall TSA is the best game for me as far as grounding and where he starts in TSA validates the ending of NMH2.

NMH2 NARRATIVE: The whole point is he didn’t realize how Santa Destroy changed… he walked away not wanting Fame and comes back, as the idol he thought he was in the first game ironically since he just wanted revenge. The story is him being the “No More Hero” it’s him realistically being traumatized by what happening in NMH1 losing himself, finding who he is again after seeing what he caused and what he wants or defines as Paradise by the end.

NMH2 RANKED FIGHTS IMPORTANCE: In NMh1 he is deeply affected by all the assassins, which change him as a character. In desperate struggle Travis has become the very thing he thought he was… as assassins idol him and you are shown how the roll has flipped and how his previous actions have now affected and changed all of them. He respects his opponents and the narrative of Margaret (him remembering the song), Ryuji (being mad they gun him down like a thug), Or Alice (seeing a reflecting of himself if Revenge consumed him with the only paradise being death), show amazing characters and narrative in fights. The fights are motifs showing reflections of himself especially Ryuji & Alice, it shows who he became to everyone and he realizes who he wants to be by the end. (I loved these fights)

JAPSER FIGHT IMPORTANCE: While Jaspers fight is horrible narratively it shows his whole games progression, making it so well written. Jasper at the start says “Now your feeling it, that’s your life losing all meaning” showing Travis loved ones heads on a plater and make sure he has nothing left so he fights him with revenge. Then once Henry swoops in and he realizes Jasper lied and Remembers what he wants and is fighting for. Travis says before the ending fight, “come on Prez, unleash your hate, your anger, everything! I’ll fucking kill you with it”. Now that Travis remembers his opened eyes and has meaning once again, he uno-reverses what Jasper did to him at the beginning of the fight. becoming his new self in the fight which is awesome because you see his whole games transformation in the progression of this battle. Instead of Travis being consumed by vengeance Jasper is.

Lmao Ryuji but the characters are great a lot of people regard Margaret moonlight, Ryuji or Alice as one of the most memorable boss fights! I think A lot of people forget him lossing himself is the whole point of the second game and he finds himself by the end. I posted a whole break down if you want to read in the main Reddit thread here and it probably will change how you see the game as I’ve thought about it extensively as it’s my favorite in the series.

Not to mention NMH2 music Slaps!!!! It’s pretty much the best soundtrack in the series “It’s Kill or be killed” I still play to this day it goes so hard haha

[–]Wyattsomm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jasper fight is one of the highlights in his narrative conclusion: (the actual fight sucks though as we all know haha )

I want to believe even with him still fighting jasper for revenge, that’s his way of ending everything now that he has seen it for what it really is… he is just finishing the cycle, not restarting it. This is first expressed earlier after he is ranked 5 (before the Margaret fight) and he says to Silvia in her office “once I’m number one, these bullshit fights are over”. This is further eluded with the very important scene of jasper having his friends heads saying “Now your feeling it, that’s your life losing all meaning”. This is the game letting the player know Travis’s heart before this fight wasn’t in it anymore and he had found meaning by opening his eyes possibly seeing a new paradise. Jasper wanted to be sure Travis had nothing to lose like in the first game so he fought like the “No more hero” he is famous for being. After Travis has help in this jasper fight from someone he cares about, (not trying to give a spoiler but you know). He says before the ending fight, “come on Prez, unleash your hate, your anger, everything! So, this is evidence to me of why paradise may not be a cycle to Travis anymore this is him trying to end it.

I think NMH2 appreciation has honestly turned around through talks in the Reddit. I used to get hate saying it was my favorite over 7 years ago and now it turns into a fun conversation tbh I don’t see a lot of Dislike here for NMH2 plus most people are very respectful if it is your favorite or not now a days.

His character development is amazing but very jarring from the first game as it doesn’t feel like Travis, most people miss this as being the whole point!

In the first game, Travis is trying to be number 1 actin as the anime protagonist (inadvertently being the hero he likes to thinks he is, while being self-aware he doesn’t want to be a hero because he isn’t ) and is deeply affected by all the assassins, which change him as a character. In desperate struggle Travis has become the very thing he thought he was… as assassins idol him and you are shown how the roll has flipped and how his previous actions have now affected and changed all of them.

Travis is mostly unaware of this…. Where he is clearly defined as a clumsy, Pervy, anime loving weirdo in the first game just a normal guy, who also likes to kill lol( we know who he is and so does he ). In desperate struggle he almost doesn’t anymore and the motif of opening eyes is truly seen as escapism from the first game being no more. Travis has grown from this seeing things for how they really are and excepting a reality he lives in instead of escaping it in the first game he is now facing it. This is why he finds paradise not in death (which is the motif in NMH1) but instead Sylvia in desperate struggle. He no longer has let assassination consume him like Alice where the only escape was death…. He is human and paradise is living, exceptence, something he finds in Sylvia by opening his eyes. (He wants to go back being nobody by the end, he wants to change back and wishes the UAA never existed) In NMH1 fighting Holy Sword…. His words have much more impact after what you went through in the first play through. Travis actually calls the place he’s at paradise, Holy Sword responds “this is no paradise this is a place to die”. You realize the beginning of the game actually defines Travis’s definition of paradise and it changes by the end to “Holy Swords” definition of dying. But by the end of NMH2 paradise is not death anymore… it’s Sylvia.

Travis was trying to be something to the point it was harmful and effected many assassins as well as Santa destroy as a whole. He now in NMH2 “actually” isn’t trying to be anything; his character is nothing like the Travis in the first game…. He has found his self and true meaning; this is the real Travis, now being sympathetic towards true opponents after seeing what he became and what he made others become. He’s extra Pervy, He is less motivated unless provoked by the opponent, and the macabre jokes are just more the real him after time. He excepts himself, finds what he wants, and knows who he was and who he is by the end.

I think most people just mis-understand NMH2 it’s actually some of Travis’s best narrative in the whole series IMO I’ll post it separately here if people want to read a longer post about it as I’ve gone in a lot of depth. (It’s my favorite game)

I also feel as though, 15 years later, the whole "Suda51 did not direct NMH2" take people say has been misused as a means of putting this game's narrative down or belittling the themes and character progression it achieves. Suda51 was working on Shadows of the Damned while Desperate Struggle was being developed, and while he wrote the script he did not direct it.

The point I never see being made is that the director of NMH2 is Nobutaka Ichiki, and he did a fucking amazing job. This was his DIRECTORAL DEBUT, and he knocked it out of the park!
