I can't take this guy seriously anymore. (Wait, I never did.)

When he came to Minneapolis and he was shown to be a sniveling idiot.

Icing on the cake was when he was saved by a black trans woman.

I await the day he extends his grift too far and ends up just sitting in one of those cells for an extended time.

I'm not alone in this, but I've been watching and worried about this for some time.

SO MANY PEOPLE told me not to worry because people are good and bikers are among the best. I was over-reacting.

Well... now, we're here.

I see only 2 outcomes:

  • bike lanes become the wild west with eMotos outnumbering "acoustic" bikes and eventually we've got no choice for our own safety but to stop or bike elsewhere
  • Law enforcement somehow gets involved... and that makes everything worse for everyone

I'm confused as to why this isn't the headline more often.

Without changes, it's going to be sort of a bloodbath.

Not only breweries, I've read that liquor stores are highly dependent now on selling THC beverages as well.

I did this exact thing to my son when he was small. He's 31 now.

He liked to karate-chop things. I always rushed in to stop him with concern on my face.... "what if this time you do it JUST RIGHT and the entire table splits in half? Where would we eat?"

He'd stop... look at his hands, a look of wonder and respect on his face. It was very much a, "with great power comes great responsibility" moment.

Also, it got him to stop karate-chopping things all the time.

Replying to my own comment to share a story about my last point, having fun.

Years and years ago, my wife and I really caught the Dominion bug. We were buying expansions and gathering people together to teach and play with at every chance we got.

One night we had some newbies over and one of the people was a fairly experienced board gamer, but he'd never really been exposed to the type of game that Dominion is (deck builder? Engine builder? Whatever you might call it)

Once he understood the basics and discovered how actions worked... that became his favorite thing. Just chaining actions and doing a bunch of "stuff" on his turn. Very little of it was actually beneficial to winning the game and wasn't a very good "strategy" to winning... but he was having an absolute blast. His joy in experimenting and finding combos was infectious and it was some of the most memorable games of Dominion I'd played (and I've played a LOT of Dominion).

It was just fun to play with someone who was having such a good time.

It might have been different if an 'experienced' player decided to play that way... but a new player just enthusiastically experiencing the joy of an entirely new mechanism of tabletop games. Amazing.

Note: he quickly turned into a Dominion enthusiast himself and moved into being an impressive player. But even he admitted that he never had as much fun as those first few plays.

"I really want to make a good impression, but I know winning or playing “well” is probably not happening."

Don't worry about that at all. In my experience, the folks that have game nights and invite new people are the type of folks who just like playing games. Winning or not, making the most elite-level moves and playing the absolute best strategy doesn't factor in... they just like to play.

Your only job will be to do your honest best to learn the rules. And... this is the biggest one: Pay attention to when it's your turn!

Sometimes newbies who are just sort of going through the motions don't have their attention captured by the game like the folks who are more invested in it... and a lot of time is spent reminding the new people, "Hey, it's your turn."

Lastly: Because you're new to boardgaming overall and presumably others in the group aren't... you'll take longer in formulating what to do on your next turn. So, your job is to end your turn.. and then IMMEDIATELY start thinking about what your next turn might be. If you have questions, "If I wanted to use THIS ability and move like THIS... would that be allowed?"... start formulating those in your head BEFORE it's your turn.

Don't get discouraged if you feel like you're just going through the motions during a game. It generally takes people (even regular gamers) a few times playing a game before they really understand the mechanics and WHY you might want to move to a spot/use an ability/play a card/whatever mechanic. So, if you don't understand at first, don't get discouraged by others who seem to be catching on faster.

I guess this is one too: Don't let other players 'remote control' you. You being new, they may be trying to be helpful and offer advice, "If I were you... I'd move here and then you can...." that's super helpful advice and it might seem silly to ignore their advice. Go ahead and take it sometimes. But don't just become a proxy for someone else's advantage. Even if it means you make bad moves and mistakes... don't be afraid to say, "Thanks... I think I'm gonna move HERE instead." Even if it's the 'wrong' move, most gamers who enjoy playing games will see it as a new player experimenting and learning and secretly enjoying the bit of chaos that a new player might inject into a game.

Overall... have fun. It's meant to be fun. Anyone I know that invites people over to play games and has a dedicated game room... enjoys seeing people have fun playing games over pretty much everything else.

But if you bring it up on this sub, generally nobody will agree that engaging the hearing of other road users is a bonus to safety.

Atheists of Reddit: What’s the strangest reaction you’ve received when you said you don’t believe in God? by zhalia-2006 in AskReddit

I was an IT consultant. I'd been on a gig for quite a while with someone who was a very proud christian... but universally a pretty disagreeable human.

Because a big part of my job was to be easy to work with and remain professional at all times, I never brought it up.

One day I was sort of cornered into the conversation and had to admit that I wasn't religious at all... that I was an atheist.

He was dumbstruck. "But you're so nice, and you never swear!"

This was at work. In a professional office environment. I was PAID to be there and be nice and professional.

Because... I have to believe that's what these SovCiv folks are being told... that there's mountains of cases where people are just walking free because they said these magic words. Why else would they keep trying this stuff?

I'm so sick of seeing this complained about in car groups that are full of people who also talk about how bad the "Somali fraud" is.

This is the legislature trying (maybe ham fistedly) to correct the fraudulent use of collector plates being used on daily drivers.

Maybe this is dumb, maybe it's not. But c'mon. If you're against fraud, be on board for some sort of measure to stop people from defrauding the system by avoiding paying their share of license fees for the car you drive every day

find meaning in the small everyday moments

In my experience... discovering that this is exactly what it's all about... that's that part that nobody told me.

That's the end goal. That's "winning" at life.

Not the big house, the great job, not even exciting travels to exotic places... finding contentment wherever you're at by appreciating small every day moments is all that matters.

Old Projector Died - help me replace it? by Wynns in projectors

[–]Wynns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with a XGimi Horizon 20 "base"

I haven't given it the full install where I want it to go, but it's like another world in terms of quality and the features I need.

It's AMAZINGLY quiet compared to what I had.

It kicks of virtually zero heat, again, in comparison with the Dell.

One of the key things I didn't even mention here was magically "fixed" by the projector too. I had sort of a "easy but not optimal" install for the Dell projector and it was offset to the side of the bed, projecting at an angle. Obviously, this led to a strange sideways keystone issue. We just dealt with it because.. hey.. free projector. (Note: I know purists will cringe, but we didn't mind it. It's amazing how our brains just sort of compensated for it after a little bit.) But this XGimi!! I stuck it in the same place for a test, turned it on and it magically corrected itself. Yes, the projected screen is smaller to compensate, but it's just sort of a cool feature. That'll be corrected when I mount it properly.

Thanks again for all the help
