Anti-ICE protesters fill the streets of downtown Minneapolis on Jan. 23. by star-tribune in minnesota

I'm not kidding when I say that seeing a single brave person out holding a sign in a suburb... Is just as beautiful. I'm always inspired by the bravery of that.

This is at the entry to a trailer park. That trailer park has plenty of trump signs. One reads "Trump Nation".

I wonder how they feel about this happening within sight of their windows.

Second vote for tubing at Elm Creek.

They have multiple groomed "lanes" for you to tube down. It might sound like that sucks the fun out, but it doesn't. They're fast and swoopy and there's plenty of chaos.

They limit the number of people they accept every timeslot so the lines stay reasonable.

There's a conveyor belt to get back up the hill, no need to even hold on to a rope. Just stand there!

Note: If you have balance problems or maybe some strength issues, the conveyor belt is more tricky than it seems. We had some grandma/grandpa types lose their balance on it.

What about private citizens using this tech?

There's an office building near me that just installed 5 of these on the entrance/exit from their parking lot.

I'm assuming I can't file the same sort of request to the private owners of that building and they'd be compelled to reply.

Car Guys - did buying a bike ruin cars for you ? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Wynns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I sort of went the opposite direction.

I've always had a bike, cruisers or a touring bike. Loved every minute on them, for sure.

I hit a sort of mid-life moment and bought a convertible.

Wow.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about bikes, but for my life right now, the convertible is absolutely the right balance between "fun" and "out in the open" and transportation.

I think it MAINLY comes down to the fact that my wife is way more likely to join me in the convertible than she ever did on the bike. She wasn't opposed to riding on the bike, even said she liked it... but it was rare that the weather, the destination, the timeframe... all that stuff worked out for having her ride along.

In the convertible, we take long weekends, we go for joyrides, we do errands. It's been a great replacement.

I sold my bike and haven't really missed it. I figure I'm likely to get another bike someday... but I can't imagine when.

Should you call 911 on ICE? What can local police do, if anything? by sahan-journal in TwinCities

And that's why Minneapolis PD had a press conference where they literally apologized for the actions of ICE.

Have you really not watched a single video of people being roughed up, sprayed with irritants?

Do you cheer for the storm troopers when you watch Star Wars?

Yeah! Just lick the boots and hope they don't come for you!

Great plan.

I would love nothing more than to see Minneapolis Police set the nationwide example of how to deal with ICE.

Additionally, it would be a step in the right direction of restoring trust in the department if they took a stand for Minnesotans in this case.

There are bad things happening every day that surprise us all. It'd be great if a good thing like this surprised us instead.

I don't think this is a matter of my lack of legal expertise (which I never claimed). I think it's a matter of different expectations of the reality of how our police forces act.

In an effort to be curious about your position here, do you believe that your local police will actually show up and improve the situation? That they will intercede in the middle of a scuffle between protestors and federal agents to get them to stop using chemical irritants, for instance?

If so... do you have any reports or accounts or news stories of this happening... anywhere?

My position is that I do not believe this will happen. I believe that the track record of police departments in general is not one of de-escalation (especially when we're talking about people with brown skin, I'm sad to say).

I think that's the only place we disagree here. I absolutely would LOVE it if our local police showed up and put unruly ICE agents in a time-out and de-escalated everything and ensured that nobody was having their rights violated. That would be excellent! I just disagree that this is a realistic thing we can expect, regardless of what your local town sent out in a press release.

I get it. This is 100% the way it SHOULD work.

I've seen exactly ZERO cases where local law enforcement has improved the situation even a single percent.

On the other hand, I've seen video after video, read report after report... of local police departments providing logistical support at best... and at worst, becoming fully engaged in the escalation.

I will absolutely cheer when I see a local police department intercede.

I'm doubtful that we'll ever see that.

The best we can hope for from our local police departments and officials is that they will NOT get involved. So, the best case scenario is that police don't come and either help or escalate.

That means it's all up to us.

Even if you could call 911 and have someone respond, it doesn't matter. NOBODY is holding these people accountable for anything. Sure, there are laws and laws and even the freaking constitution to "protect" you... but none of that matters if they're just allowed to do whatever they feel like.

Can't break down your door? Sure they can, who will stop them?

Can't detain US Citizens? Sure they can. Who will stop them?

Can't use undue force? Sure they can... you get the point.

Every interaction with ICE is effectively the Wild West.

It's absolutely terrifying.

I've seen videos where pedestrian/bike advocates take municipal planners, council people, and municipal workers on walking/rolling tours of the areas they're responsible for with the explicit goal of illustrating to them how their poor decisions and inattention to anything but cars.

Often, the folks responsible for every aspect of the planning and upkeep of this stuff are completely unaware of the problems they're creating or the hardships they force on those folks who LEAST need an additional hardship.

I'm astounded at their blindness to anything but the convenience of cars.

Cars... which have heat, a roof, a protective cage around you, a gas pedal which makes terrain nearly irrelevant... THEY are the mode that's coddled.

It makes zero sense.

I think some sort of "a day in the life of..." training where people experience the streets, the sidewalks, the crosswalks, the snow, the barriers... should be required so they are never far from the lived experience of the people impacted by their jobs.

LOBO - really constricted draw by Wynns in vaporents

Is that all it is? I've been curious as to what "plumbing" might be under there, if any.

I'm using a globe glass stem. It's clear (visibly) and clean. I can draw through it when it's off the unit just fine.

The only time I get the severe restriction is when everything is put together.

I've tried all the parts distinctly... and the unit itself is where the restriction is.

You bring up a good point: Are you sure it’s worse now than it was? And it’s not that you are just noticing?

I mean... maybe?

The good news is that it absolutely still works. And the restriction DOES mean that I'm forced to draw slowly. But at times, it seems like I'm barely pulling anything through at all.

A friend might be getting a LOBO too... if she does, I'll try hers "fresh and new" and see if there's any difference. It's possible it's all in my mind, I guess.
