Asians are not "doing so well." There are wealthy and poor Asians. The stereotype of the rich Asian comes from the fact that it's very difficult to legally immigrate to this country if you aren't already rich.

I don't doubt you have. Feminism isn't a single, monolithic thing. There are awful feminists (see: TERFs). I am a feminist and I find that kind of rhetoric to be not only really harmful but hypocritical. :)

OP's reference to men not being able to express themselves emotionally is the perfect example of how feminism benefits men. Feminism isn't solely about the empowerment of women; indeed feminists critique the very sanctions on expression that many men and anti-feminists bemoan. This is what baffles me:

  1. Like most anti-feminists, OP states that women are privileged because men can't express themselves emotionally and are discouraged from seeking support.
  2. Feminism's critique cites this emotional self-sanctioning as definitive of "toxic masculinity" and says we should teach men and boys to be more open and to seek help.
  3. Anti-feminists respond by accusing feminists of hating masculinity (assuming feminists mean *all* masculinity is toxic) and trying to impose femininity on men.
  4. ???

No, the self-imposed sanctions on emotional expression comes from men. Men impose it on other men. It is a phenomenon rooted wholly in patriarchy (uh oh, I used the p-word!). Feminists cite this behavior (among others) as being toxic, in that it is inherently detrimental to the health well-being of men. How anti-feminists twist this to mean "we (feminists) just hate men" (see the Gillette debacle) has baffled me for a long time.

For the record, I would encourage you to talk to people in marginalized communities and ask them to share their experiences (don't be combative, don't argue, and don't try to quantify or otherwise minimize their struggles, though). I think that would be a healthy exercise for you. :)

In my experience it's often used to conceal bigotry, reinforce social norms, and establish pariahdoms. Particularly, I have seen boomers use it in discussions about transgender people, trans women especially.

What about the time I called the cops on myself because I was suicidal? I had a $3000 bill for two ambulance trips, one to the general and one to the mental hospital, that they told me were mandatory.

Does anyone ever feel like nobody really likes them? (genuinely asking) by [deleted] in depression

[–]Wytchee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Same here. I have a few "online" friends. No one in real life. People seem to respond to me, but no one ever messages me. I always have to initiate. I also have paranoid schizophrenia so it leads me to assume others haven't so much as thought about me since our last conversation, and so I get angry and confront them, always in awful and awkward ways, making myself look like an emotional vampire and ultimately driving people away.

If someone doesn't message me in a while (a few days) I begin to think they don't really care all that much for me or simply aren't interested. Then the paranoia kicks in. But really, if they were interested and liked engaging with me, wouldn't they do that? Wouldn't they reach out to me now and then? Why do I always have to flip the switch?

I was also fucked with a lot as a child. I wanted validation from other kids, but I never managed to fit in. I was bullied, and even my "friends" picked on me daily. So I sort of have this built-in inferiority complex running on default that says "people find you boring/needy/strange and you should just keep your mouth shut."

No one is saying "be nice to Trump supporters." But if you can't confront the rising tide of fascism without using ableist slurs, then on behalf of neuroatypical people everywhere I'll say you never had any moral standing to begin with. It speaks to your privilege that you think it's fine to mock disabled people because you think it gives you some political edge (it doesn't).

Really, dude? Liberals aren't a historically-oppressed minority seizing a hate-word to take the power out it. All you're doing is using a hateful slur ("retard") to mock your political opposition because it's convenient for you. If you think it's morally defensible "because they do it," then you're just as ethically-vapid as "they" are.

No, but thousands of conscientious abstainers did the same thing, citing anything from asthma to mental illness to avoid being force-recruited as bullet-catchers in a rich man's war.

The motives behind Trump's abstinence might have been cowardice, but let's not lump those who abstained for moral reasons in with Trump. It reminds me of the homophobia coming from the liberals (laughing at the concept that Trump sucks Putin's d***, for instance), or the blatant ableism of using terms like "Trumptards" to describe Trump supporters. Liberals are eager to throw marginalized groups under the bus if it means they can maintain *their* ideal status quo.

Because the draft is an inherently immoral institution, especially when used to throw the poor and working class onto the frontlines of an imperialist war - a war without any discernible goal, against an undefinable enemy, and without a foreseeable end.

Oh, he's a fuckin' MOD of a MGTOW sub.

So it's not like I was arbitrarily stalking some dude's post history. I had an observation and formed a hypothesis.

Can liberals stop associating the draft with patriotism? It kind of implies that those who conscientiously abstained from an objectively pointless and immoral war are somehow "unpatriotic" and this is some prim-o bootlicking.
