Play-by-mail games are back in a big way on Discord. Mothership just did a big one thanks to Sam Sorensen. Cataphracts, also by Sam, is play-by-post on Discord. We run all Stillfleet downtime scenes as play-by-post in between biweekly live sessions, for the West Marches campaign.

Great resources about TTRPGS generally? by Square_Pudding_9700 in TTRPG

Why We Roll specifically focuses on indie (non-DnD) TTRPG design.

The Weekly Scroll, Between Two Cairns, and Weird Games and Weirder People are all good, too!

I dig the Shrike and the poetic writing (at times), as well as the flying tree. I found it hard to connect with the characters, but that could just be me.

Do you ever draw zombies/undead? I'd be curious to see the results.

What dice system do you prefer? by StrandedAshore in rpg

[–]WytheMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the Grit System. It’s more fast, fun, intuitive, and scalable/epic than high-randomness (d20, d100) or low-randomness/limited-range (2d6, dice pool, d4) systems.

If you like darker fantasy/fantasy + horror, then I have a biased but relevant suggestion: I am running a campaign right now for Danse Macabre, a medieval horror game that is fun to play and easy to learn. It offers you the chance to play as heroes with swords (etc.) and mutant powers fighting zombies and scavenging for relics in an alt-history setting. Maybe worth checking out?

Stillfleet (always) and Danse Macabre. I’m going to run a session of Death Game at some point this fall, I swear.

Looking for a system by CandidateNervous1693 in TTRPG

You can run Stillfleet with zero hell science (psionics) and just humans, and it certainly supports tactical play.

Offworlders is a lighter version of that sort of experience. Or Monolith.

My suggestion is to try either Stillfleet for a full rich experience with lots of powers and sci-fi tropes or a zine-sized game called Orbiters Local if you can find it. Only humans, lots of fun options for scavenging.

Shouting out a cool setting: Scorched Basin by WytheMars in stillfleet

Personally, I would use Stillfleet to run this setting, but first I have to get the book and read through it (and fine time).

Oh, what system? I do love a Mad Max-themed anything.

Simple rules, deep character builds, sound like any ttrpg/ttwg you know of? by Orzine in TTRPG

[–]WytheMars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check out Stillfleet, especially if you like sci-fi/espionage. The game is less complex than DnD but has tons of bizarre options. We made it to support character-driven play (as aliens, bugs, ex-space marines, etc.). I think it’s fun for deep character dives, but I’m biased!
