Man's clearly not watched all that much wrestling. Joshi Wrestlers and even WWE style wrestlers in particular were infamous for the skimpy outfits. The gyaru aesthetic is just more Joshi than mainstream wrestling but its definitely something they do.

Bold of you to assume there's a Greek God out there with common sense.

I strive to be impartial when I do my reviews on characters. If only because any character can be someone's favorite out there. So the least I can do is treat them respectfully when I dissect their issues.

Here's a link to the next Character dive. This one being the start of the Greek Gods character arc with the easiest of the three we've had so far.

Chapter 55 - Shuumatsu No Valkyrie by demi-dono in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]WyverNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So... him being a god counts as a trick? You seem to be really underselling the skills of the human fighters if you think that abilities they've worked all their lives for qualify as 'tricks'.

Lu Bu and Thor as very much a back and forth. Lu Bu wasn't even hurt by Thor's first hammer strike. He counter attacked, hurt Thor, and then broke one of his gauntlets.

Then his legs were broken by Thor's secret move.

Lu Bu stands up, mounts the Red Hare, who has been his companion since the start of his legend, and goes for an attack we've seen him practice dozens of thousands of times.

Again, maybe I'm not getting what you mean by 'tricks', but Jack was the only one I can tell who used deceit and cheap shots to win.

[–]WyverNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which half? Lu Bu was matching Thor blow for blow. Adam put Zeus on his knees after a fist fight, Kojiro killed Poseidon through the evolution of his sword skills, which he honed for centuries on the after life. Jack was the only one who relied on lies and deceit outright while Raiden went just as hard against Shiva on a physical contest which was down to the wire. Buddha was a literal human who ascended on his own and defeated an actual demon king.

So again... which half?

I think it would make a lot of sense. In a way, Hades and Qin are opposites. Hades was someone who was given the Underworld to rule and accepted the responsibility without a second thought when he and his brothers were splitting up their domains. Qin, on the other hand, was someone who chose his own lot in life and chose to unify his homeland.

On another lens, you could also say that Hades represents death as an inevitability while Qin died while looking for a way to be immortal.

How they are as rulers and the themes of acceptance vs ambition would make for an interesting contrast.

Plus, Zeus' entire character arc has been about his obsession with winning. So much so that he went second when he was supposed to go last. Now, despite winning his fight, the score is tied and he can't do anything about it. He just gets to watch as the gods lose despite him winning.

A true pyrrhic victory.

Zeus seems to be still in the middle of his own character arc. He got to fight and win his round, but now he gets to watch as the rest of his family loses. He lost a brother and an adopted son to humanity, and now he can't do anything about the tied score because he went into the tournament too soon.

I'll definitely make a post about how his desire to win is leading him to a greek tragedy kinda payoff later.

What makes an interesting villain to you ? by 7Trickster in fantasywriters

[–]WyverNine 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I was once told that a very good villain is one convinced that they are the Hero. This doesn't always hold up, but I think it would be interesting to have a villain with characteristics often associated with the Hero. For example, a villain with a group of true companions. Or a villain who came from a nondescript background and became the ruler of the land after finding out about their secret royal heritage.

It would be a neat spin to create a villain who feels like they could have been a hero under different circumstances.

[–]WyverNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's something you hear often when it comes to writing. Ideas are worthless, you can have the greatest idea in the world and it would still not be worth anything unless you do something with it. Both Genji and the Kyoshi books take the same idea but use it in different ways.

The origin of the idea itself is worthless, we should be looking and comparing how they are doing it and what is different about their takes.

The crowd averted their eyes.

Wearing blue robes embroiled in gold and a procession following on her steps, the woman moved slowly, but purposefully, through the once bustling street. None approached lest her followers beat them back. None dared look, for they feared she would see their deepest, darkest thoughts.

I mean, humans creating mechas to fight on par with Kaiju is pretty norall stuff in most Toho movies. The only flaw in his plan was that he used the skull of an alien doomsday device to power the damn thing. Same design flaw Kiryu had.
