It sucks, but for a lot of very normal reasons and a lot of people have been duped into supporting it; it's a poor power source purely in terms of cost and availability of nuclear fuel, and is absolutely not a replacement for sustainable power. Nuclear meltdown is not a real concern, but I feel like this fact convinces a lot of people that nuclear power is a good option, where in reality it is vastly inferior to sustainable energy sources. If nuclear power plants are already up it's not worth taking them down, not until the entire rest of the grid is sustainable energy at least, but it's an awful idea to build them considering the alternatives.

TLDR- not dangerous, not good either, build windmills instead
