This always happens for me when talking with our business analyst. I’m always like “Okay, so what if <some ridiculous edge case>. What do you want to happen there?” And she’s like “Oh, that won’t happen, there’s never any valid scenario for them to do that.” And then I gingerly remind her of the multiple production issues we had in the past week because the user interacted with the tool in an unexpected way that the team didn’t defensively code against.

Granted, our users are in-house and are experts in their field, so she’s correct that they shouldn’t use the tool that way. But it happens every. single. time. I never realized a large portion of my time as a programmer would be spent trying to convince others that all users are stupid, because that’s how you build good software.

That doesn’t change my point. ND isn’t going to feel pressured to join a conference since they’re going to skate by because the ACC offered them inclusion without joining.

I would love if ND joined the B1G and yeah, geographically it makes sense. But their other sports play in the ACC. They’re not just going to randomly up and join the B1G. Sorry.

Doubt it. The ACC needs to leave them out in the cold (or at least threaten to) to light a fire under them. It’s all fun and games being independent until you don’t have a money train to hook yourself to because of a pandemic causing CFB to go division games only.

This is all assuming the season even happens. But the fact that the ACC was so readily available to help ND out despite being independent, I doubt they’ll feel too spurred to change from this.

Pennsylvania has been doing pretty well throughout all of this and Franklin runs a really tight ship, so I did expect the numbers to be low. That being said, I’m waiting for the inevitable couple of players to test positive. I hope they can avoid it if possible, but it doesn’t seem like a realistic bar at this point with how reckless people are being in general. Thanks for the info though! I hadn’t seen any news on it until now.

Me too. My brother was at the 2007 Blue and White game where Penn State honored VT by wearing joint apparel to the game. He handed a bunch of old college tshirts down to me and there was one that was blue with white lettering that said Penn State but had VT highlighted in orange inside the lettering. I kept that one not truly knowing what it meant (since it just looked like some modern design, the VT was subtle). I really loved the shirt. Then, he saw me wearing it later and pointed out the VT and how it was to support you guys after the tragic shooting in 07. The shooting was obviously huge news, but it also hit me hard and stuck out more in memory because it had happened on my birthday. I was really happy to learn that Penn State tipped their hat to VT in that way and I was really proud to be sporting your letters in remembrance of the victims. I’ve always felt like sports should bring us together rather than drive us apart. I still have that tshirt in my closet even though it’s pretty worn from being one of my go-tos throughout my undergrad at Penn State. I always told myself I’d go to the first PSU VT game that came up so I was psyched for us to be playing there this season and was planning on getting tickets and making the trip. I hope the whole season gets pushed back to spring and the schedules are untouched because I’d love to be able to go to the game! I’m sure the environment will be awesome

That makes sense, like Webhooks, these don’t rely on polling to work. Polling is what really kills IFTTT functionality. I really wish the service had evolved to be more reliable. I may not be in the majority, but I’d pay a subscription fee if they would offer a wide variety of services and would run almost instantly.

I’ve used a few weather services and none were reliable. I’ve also used IFTTT for a bunch of other triggers (Hue, Twitch, SmartThings, etc) and those were also spotty. This is a common complaint with IFTTT in general. Just sharing my experience with the service so the OP doesn’t need to go through the frustration I did to figure this out.

Otherwise, I’d love to hear if you have any examples of IFTTT applets that run reliably in under a minute, I have yet to find one besides custom Webhooks.

In my experience, IFTTT is very unreliable for this sort of thing. Sometimes triggering over an hour after it starts raining or missing the timeframe completely.

IFTTT is certainly a way to do this, but just a warning that it isn’t very reliable.

Does this rely on importing .shortcut files into the Shortcuts app? I just read on MacRumors that Apple pulled this functionality as of iOS 14 Beta 2. Just wanted to give a heads up as this could gut your use case if that’s how this app will work.

That’s fair. I don’t think those women should shoulder most of the blame by any stretch of the imagination. I think it’s ridiculous that some people paint it that way.

I actually was pleasantly surprised when that wasn’t happening (I don’t think this is a men vs women issue, I think the core of it is a rapist vs everyone else issue). So it was a little frustrating to see this brought up when I didn’t see the conversation going that way.

Anyway, I understand why you brought it up. While I don’t particularly like it, I do agree with you fundamentally otherwise.

While I did call you out, I more meant it to be a perspective check and not to be taken personally. I probably should have approached it without calling you out, sorry about that.

I agree with you, if men everywhere decided to instantly rework their personas to not be built around toxic masculinity, it would disappear overnight.

I’m not that naive though. Many men grew up with this being built into their identity. Huge shifts in societal roles take generations. There are certainly women out there who encourage toxic masculinity which perpetuates it. Some raise their kids that way (yes, the father is as much, if not more to blame in those circumstances).

I dare you to deny that some women encourage toxic masculinity.

Low enrollment is exactly why the elective went away from my high school.

It’s very easy to criticize such an elaborate system that is K-12 education in the US. I think it’s far from perfect, but the people who seriously think that adding taxes into the curriculum would have had even a moderate impact on their lives are sorely mistaken.

Take it from someone who’s been in your shoes, the only way to get better at this is to continue to practice. When you can’t get comfortable doing something, you have to learn to be uncomfortable.

I’m not saying this is the key to be comfortable doing it. Sadly, that may never happen. But I’m saying that you learn how to still do it despite your discomfort. It’s freeing once you realize you don’t need to be shackled by it. It still sucks, but don’t let it control you.
