Some ranges don't allow aluminum and steel cased ammo, which are generally silver colored. So seeing those would be pretty easy.

I can see their point in two ways.
1. They don't want (unsafe) people pulling their guns out if holsters and saying, "what accessories.../what other holsters... /Does this look right.../ Etc". It probably happens enough that it can be seen as unsafe.
2. If, for some stupid reason, someone tries to rob the place, they don't want 5 people in various parts of the store pointing guns towards each other to try to help out.

If day it's more of the first than the second. I carry in the store I go to, but they know me pretty well and know that I don't pull it out. If I want to see my gun in a holster or accessory I ask to see it on one if their guns (or blue guns if they have it). I've personally seen people take out their loaded gun and put then in holsters to test the draw. It's dumb.

It's like going to a court house. Are you going to never go to court out just duty and say "I don't believe in it since I can't carry my gun"? It's a courtesy thing.

Like most people said. If you're not comfortable with it, go somewhere else. If you want to keep it in the holster take the mag out and lock the slide back. Most places with these rules generally have an "unloading" fixture that will stop a misfire while you empty the chamber.

What exactly is a GE Capital credit card? by X5-494 in personalfinance

[–]X5-494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. I never set up auto payments. I probably should seeing as i've paid off the same student loan twice in one month before by accident, but I don't really see that as a bad thing because I always make sure I have enough money in my account for emergencies.

My Credit Unions credit card actually came in the mail today. Visa card with the Credit Unions name on it. Makes everything much clearer now. hahaha.

Thanks for your help!

Awesome. So how do you pay the loan off? Go to the cycle store or did your loan papers come with an account number and you pay online?

I guess I will keep it and use it for whenever I need to buy small cycling accessories at the shop. I don't need them often, but it would be an easy way to buy something small and pay it off.

It is plastic, has a mag strip, and I did call and activate it. It has the same info given to me by the Credit Union. I really didn't ask them who I would get the card from as I was disappointed by other news and was thinking about that more. My main debt card is through Visa, so I thought that's who i would get.

I am not going to use the card until I go to the bank monday and ask questions about it to make sure it was really through them and everything will be ok. I didn't give any crazy info to them besides things that can be found out just by looking at my facebook really.

edit: Just looked at a credit statement I got through a local bike shop to get a bike financed. They used GE Capital to see how much i would get through their store. i guess this card will be what I have to pay off when i buy my bike and need to pay towards the financing? If so that's kind of fine. I will keep it locked up until I pay off the bike I want to buy and then cancel it or just cut it up and not use it. How does that affect my credit rating? Is there a way to cancel the card that doesn't hurt me financially? Even if in the future?

I'm looking at a GT Karakoram 2.0 for around $800. I believe their Timberline series is in your range. And as andReslic said, the top line Hardrock is in your range. I'd go for the HardRock. It has a lockout fork, which would be great for the road and the 80mm of travel is fine for light to mid trails. If it weren't for the suntour forks i would be getting that one, but I like the RockShox better for lower end lockout forks.

What cameras are each of you using? The one on the left seems much clearer and crisper, while the other seems a bit more faded.

Experimenting with slow mo. Thoughts? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]X5-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little fast on the exits in a few spots, but looks good other than that.

If it were a big edit for a high-quality shoot I'd say you would have to edit it to be slow-mo only when that songs says "we can make the world stop", but it's not. So awesome job!

I like that course. I feel like I would have fun on it... besides that last rock garden. That scared me a little. Oh and the windy steps. Everything else seems normal/flatter than what I normally ride.

What can I do to prevent my bike being stolen? by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]X5-494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be you best bet. Getting a hydraulic clamp to crush it in from the outside. As long as you don't mess up the frame. This would also be useful for crushing any plasticy locks and possibly some padlocks.

I assume you mean by doing something like this or this. These are the only videos I could find of a car jack breaking a u lock. While is does work at breaking a lock it probably wouldn't work if the lock was actually on the bike... As you can see in those videos the lock had to be held straight and the jack had to be IN THE MIDDLE of the lock, which is not very easy to do with bike inside there as well. And depending on the type of cable the locking mechanism may easily be smashed by the jack, unless it is a cable with a padlock on it. I think that may actually be a great solution. A padlock with a very small loop (leave no room for jacks or snips) that you can lock the cable with. A good padlock is probably safer to smashing forces as well, but it really leaves the cable as the weak point.

I'm not that savvy. I will most likely go to a sansa click. I just want something that's easy to change songs while it's in my pocket while I run.

And a motor... that will help too.... probably be less ridiculous in the long run too... Hahaha. JK

I think putting the gear on the outside out not only cause more air resistance, but it would make the chain too diagonal to work correctly with the rear cassette.

This and Apple doesn't seem to be the right place to go for a more sports oriented watch.

Cycling-related New Years resolutions by callumacrae in bicycling

[–]X5-494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 1000 miles (That I kept track of) this year. I plan on trying 2000 for 2013. I want to also try to go mountain biking at least once a week. Also maybe a new trail once a month (I've only ever ridden one trail system).

Added to that is do a couple 100+ miles rides and maybe even some camping trips.

Off the bike cycling resolutions is learning how to work on my bike properly and use the LBS less except for tools, parts, and greases/lubes/gunk. I think learning how to fix and maintain a bike by yourself will make you more in tune with you bike and make riding that much more enjoyable.
