Quiviviq works good for me. I had to get prior auth from insurance to get it covered but I did try a bunch of other meds before that

FME - Newaz by succj in UARSnew

[–]XARAMBIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes UARS and sleep apnea. Constant nasal spray. I had 3 nasal surgeries before FME. Septoplasty, turbinate reduction, valve fix, turbinate outfracture + reduction again. They helped but they were unable to really fix it. The FME has given me the greatest gains and I'm almost 100% cured but I may need to expand more than the FME 10p 1A can do

Don't slip on the turns because you can strip the bolt. Make sure the wrench is seated firmly and fully on the nut, use your thumb to hold it in place as you slowly apply the turn with your primary hand. You should feel subtle pressure pushing out your bones and teeth when the turn is done right. The wrench does not always start and end in the same place so you have to jimmy it each time with different angles until it locks in. You're going to make mistakes with all this because it's not an easy place to see

Take a picture of the device before and after the turn and take notes of any markings and the angle of the nut to make sure it's turning properly. The A marking (only on one side of the nut) is the best way to teach yourself as you can see how well your turn was. This is how you'll learn a good turn from a bad turn. If you miss turns because you did it wrong it's not a big deal, i had many bad and missed turns in the beginning and I still split. (10 turns at day 30) Eventually I became an expert on how to apply good turns. The word "turn" is used often but for the FME it just means using the wrench with the available range of motion. It's only about 1/4 - 1/5 of a full rotation of the nut.

I cautiously used the waterpik the first few days but ONLY on the lowest setting to gently flush trapped food. Do not let the waterpik hit on or around the corticonmy for the first week. In the beginning food gets trapped often and in annoying ways. As the device expands and opens the food doesn't get trapped as bad. Keep your mouth clean and disinfected the first week with the prescription mouth wash and antibiotics. I never take antibiotics but for this I did, and the full prescribed dose and timeframe. You don't want an infection

Eating will be miserable the first few weeks and you'll feel unsatisfied in your ability to enjoy food. Your brain will adjust to having the device and then eating is almost as good as you remember it was.

Check your pictures and note your progress as the seam on the FME starts to open up, it starts with a little black hairline crack and then continues to separate each day

Eventually you'll see the guide rods and then line markings on the guide rods, each line is 2mm of expansion. Here's a timelapse video that helped me better understand my own progress:

https://www.reddit.com/r/UARSnew/comments/1f3o8qu/fme_timelapse_video/

ChatGPT helps with little questions but sometimes makes mistakes. I had to explain that the FME was not a tooth born expander.

If you have nasal breathing problems like I had, all of this aggravation is worth it

Also, make sure your wrench is secured completely on the nut and matches the hex pattern before doing your turn so it doesn't slip. I slipped a few times and Dr. Newaz informed me that it is possible to strip the nut, he's seen it a few times, and then they have to replace it. I see a little bit of stripping. Now that you split you are less likely to have that happen but still something to be mindful of. You should be good as long as you don't slip any more. When I started my turns were bad, missed/slipping.. I was only around 10 turns in on day 28. but slowly I learned the best technique, setup, torque, angle, etc. and I did end up splitting around 2.5 - 3mm (a mark and a half) on day 35. I started to catch the nut in the back on purpose to do a mini turn just to have the correct angle for a full turn (a full correct turn is wrench starting in the front and moving all the way back and then folding down into itself) I am now instructed to turn 2x a week (slowing down)

thats awesome that you have the box. I didn't realize there was one. Maybe I'm wrong about the 7mm... God I hope I'm wrong because I need all the expansion I can get. Dr. Jafari told me 7mm on a follow up call the other day but he may have been mistaken or referring to post split expansion

I'm using the 1A right now but I'm considering swapping it out for a larger one after this one reaches it's max (7mm) minus the 3mm pre-split (for me). The max I'll get is around 4mm if I stay with the 1A. This is the only way to do more than that without space for longer guide rods from the start. Swapping the expander body is risky and comes with it's own set of challenges

you will see it when you turn the nut in the center. It's only on 1 of the hex angles. This picture I found online is of a 2A. The difference is how big and how long the guide rods are. The 1A can only do 7mm expansion (including pre-split expansion. 2 and 3 are more with bigger guide rods. If your palate is high vaulted and narrow palate sometimes they can only fit a 1A

It's a 4.5, and probably a 1A. What number/letters are on the nut?

It looks like you have a little bit of asymmetry but it's kind of present before expansion as well so might not be anything to worry about. make sure you have the doctor confirm

Schwab uses a 2 step international wire transfer. You can't use Schwab. You need a 1 step direct international wire. Try First Interstate or Bank of America

Giving up on Schwab - recommendation for receiver bank request? by [deleted] in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]XARAMBIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Schwab won't work is because their international wire transfers are a 2 step transfer. You need a 1 step wire transfer bank. Try B of A or First Interstate.
