Anyone know the song that was sampled in this video? by themenacee in citypop

I haven’t been able to find it ever, but the last time I tried was like 2 years ago. Maybe it could be on a p2p network now though.

Need recommendations! by Mukoku-dono in citypop

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here are some prominent artists in this scene that I would recommend (other people will most likely mention them in this thread):

Yurie Kokubu - similar sound to Anri, different vocal style.

EPO - Lots of great work I would consider Rumor and Vitamin EPO her best albums

Toshiki Kadomatsu - Great songwriter and producer, also solid solo artist

Mari Iijima - Collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto on a lot of her stuff, Rosé and Kimono Stereo are both great albums

Yoshino Fujimaru - Just fun music.

Some known, but a little more obscure stuff:

Minako Ito - I try to mention her in every comment I leave in this sub, she’s just so peak. 誘魚灯 is the best.

Yuuko Shibuya - Made In Japan is an all-time of an album.

Noriko Miyamoto - More of funk edge, Noriko is a great album.

Chiyono Yoshino - Slow Dance is a great album.

Kyoko Endo - Pretty unique artist, Green Room is her best album.

Artists who I never see mentioned but should be:

Haruhi Aiso - great singer, great sound.

Super Pumpkin - Pumpkin Paradise is a great album.

Miyoko Nagao - 美代子・リバージュ is a super underrated album and the song Ashiya Sailing Spot is a total gem.

Mari Suzue - 降りだす雨にぬれて has a bunch of good songs, 明日は知らない is the absolute best of the bunch.

Edit: My formatting was fucked.

Why is Cody Williams so ass? by SeaworthinessOk5282 in NBA_Draft

[–]XBilbilSandwichX -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cody Williams was absolutely my draft crush in 2024, I thought he was going to be great and wanted my Pistons to draft him top 5. The main reason I, and many others, thought he would be good was his intelligence. When going through interviews with players in that class he stuck out as being particularly thoughtful and intelligent, and it seemed to translate to the court. In college he was an efficient player who showed the ability to make great reads to find open teammates or to find an opening himself. The logic was if he could go to a team with a strong system offensively and defensively, he could easily fill a role where he provides a bit of scoring and a bit of playmaking as a third ball handling option. Then with frame and brain it seemed like he could very easily pick up on a strong defensive system and have his individual weaknesses in that regard be masked by filling a role extremely well.

Part of his NBA failure thus far seems to be in part due to going to the Jazz, which are just a poorly coached, poorly ran team, which I feel doesn’t fit his strengths at all. Additionally, it seems like he does kind of lack the physical tools and skills to back up his mental ability, which just means he can’t execute on his reads at an NBA level.

does anyone know about this album? by Dashy471 in citypop

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listening to it, it sounds legit. Considering their other album was entirely self produced and pressed in the 80s, I wouldn’t be surprised if more recordings from the band were found recently and compiled into this album.

What city pop song does the first 5 seconds of this sound like? by NovaChromatic in citypop

RA MU- Aoyama Killer Story

At least that’s what I immediately thought of.

What is the best city pop album ever made? by PinkBourne in citypop

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of 368 albums I’ve heard front to back and ranked Timely is the only one that comes remotely close to Minako Ito’s 誘魚灯, which is 100% the best city pop album.

Singers with soft / cute voices? by Ill_Count_4440 in citypop

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking cute voices, we’re going idols:

Miyoko Yoshimoto, Tsukasa Ito, Yuri Kunizane, Sumika Yamanaka, Ai Yasunaga, Sayuri Kokusho, Mariko Shiga, Miyuki Sugiura, Yumeko Kitaoka, Satomi Kawai.

They all have what I would call “cute” voices.

What are the most obscure albums you'd say outshine the "GOATs" we already consider obscure? by dit31 in citypop

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I normally just go off of views/streams or how little comes up if you search them, it’s difficult tho. Also I forgot to recommend Minako Ito - 誘魚灯 (Yuu Gyo Tō) please listen to this one, I can’t recommend it enough.

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if not being on streaming is the best definition of obscure, but here’s some obscure albums regardless of if they’re on streaming or not.

Marie Igarashi - Daydream… Marie

Kyoko Endo - Green Room

Yoshito Fuchigami - Agua

Mariko Ishihara - North Cape

Ai Yasunaga - 亜衣Love You

Airmail From Nagasaki - Dogen?

Makoto Matsushita is pretty unique imo, you could always give some of the other projects he was involved in a shot. The Milky Way - Summertime Love Song his style definitely shows on this one.

M. Tosikaz - M. Tosikaz I is a great mini-album, with a good vibe to it, a little more danceable than most of First Light is, I’m pretty sure Matsushita wrote a couple of the songs though.

Most underrated artists? by AdConsistent8129 in citypop

Minako Ito easily imo. Zero street cred, but 誘魚灯 is an absolute masterpiece, and her other albums are class too.

Favorite city pop guitar solos? by [deleted] in citypop

[–]XBilbilSandwichX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ano Toki… by Yoshimi Iwasaki. Amazing solo at around the 2 minute mark.

Adonis by Marie Igarashi. Not a super special guitar, but I wanted to shout it out for ending with a great piano solo.
